Fastberry - lazy indoor/outdoor grow from hermie seed
This grow is using a fully developed seed I found in a Fastberry plant I grew last summer. I think the plant hermied late in flower due to very high heat in my tent last year.
It’s going to be a fairly hands off, low stress grow. I’ve started inside without putting up my tent alongside a load of chillis and other vegetable plants I’ve grown from seed. In a few weeks I’ll move everything outside to a greenhouse.
Seed germinated in a coco jiffy pellet in less than 48 hours. I soaked the jiffy with dechlorinated tap water (used Ecothrive Neutralise) which had a very weak dose of Ecothrive Flourish (ultra refined seaweed extract) added to it.
As soon as the seed had popped I planted the jiffy pellet in a 12l fabric pot filled with Biobizz light mix and 30% extra perlite. I had pre watered the pot with water treated with Flourish again and some organic black strap molasses.
Thanks to prewatering the fabric pot I basically do nothing throughout week 1.
Perhaps a tiny spray of dechlorinated tap water around the jiffy pellet base to keep it moist, but the pot has enough moisture to keep the plant happy.
It’s quadrupled in height throughout the week.
I had started the grow with a Viparspectra P600 as I couldn’t be bothered to dig my XS 1500 and the light schedule is approx 14-16 hours light on at this stage with a few days at 24 hour light to give the chilli plants nearby a boost.
I’m not using much science in this grow - just hopefully demonstrating how easy autos can be to grow with minimal fuss and stress. Time will tell lol!
Into week 2 and still very hands-off.
In the day of taking these pictures I gave the plant its first proper watering. Approx 1 litre of dechlorinated tap water with ecothrive flourish added again.
I also added some Mycorrhizal granules (Miracle Grow Rootgrow brand) to the surface before the watering. Going away for four days and expecting to see quite a lot of growth on return.
So far no issues. With autos I have learnt to do very little during the first few weeks.
I switched the light to a Viparspectra XS1500 and it’s running at approx 50%. I think the plants are going to like this change and a full watering.
As predicted there has been a lot of growth since the first proper watering on day 11. Came back on day 14 to find the Fastberry looking very happy and healthy.
I’d added a small USB fan on Day 11 too for some air movement, though this grow is not in a tent and under a large loft window which is semi open so that’s not a major consideration here.
Soil was dry on my return so gave a decent watering - approx 1-1.5l - with the usual dechlorinated tap water with a very, very low dose of Biobizz Bio-Grow. Less than 1ml in 2l of water.
This morning it’s looking happy and healthy.
No smell yet, still plan on moving this plant outdoors to a greenhouse in a few weeks as last summer it was too hot to run a tent indoors. Also, it’s a free seed so I will use my limited indoor space for RQS Epsilon and some blue dream autos as I’m much more of a sativa-leaning strains.
Will add a few more pictures this week now the growth is getting to the more exciting point!
Since plant started pre flower - about 7 days ago, I’ve suspected it could be hermie or male. It actually looks like a 100% male right now.
Not surprised as it’s a seed from a hermie after all, but thought as it was a self pollinated seed it would more likely be female or herm.
No biggie - I think I am going to cross pollinate with either RQS EPsilon F1 - could be an interesting cross?
