πͺ Beautiful healthy strong plants. Very stinky & top-heavy!! π π : 1: π π
During the last couple of weeks of the grow, I lowered the night time temperature enough for their sugar leaves to turn a nice deep bluish green with a nice violet streak through the back of their veins.
I'm a new grower and probably made mistakes I'm not even aware of, yet I succeeded in harvesting a total of 552 dried grams (18.64 ounces) from 5 plants, averaging 105 grams per plant (3.75 oz). I highly recommend this strain!
I'll update after they've cured for a few weeks to review the smoke and confirm if the numbers haven't changed. My preliminary experience with the glove hash was very a nice, clear-headed uplifting effect with strong muscle relaxation properties.
Stay tuned...
So in the last couple of weeks I tried to make the night time temperature go down enough for them to turn color and they did - the sugar leaves turned a deep bluish green, really nice coloring!
I harvested over a 2-day period. Day 1 I hand-plucked the sugar leaves off plants # 1, 2, & 3. Day 2 I hand-plucked plants 4 & 5, trimmed all of them and cut them down whole.
I hung them to dry in my closet/former grow room with a boot tray of water with a towel for evaporation. My last grow was a disappointment in the end due to me not realizing how dry it is in the house (here in the living room it's 19% RH due to it being January in Canada and the hot water heating radiators are going full time).
When they were dry enough, I did the final trimming, removing all the waste and dividing the buds into 2 classes: Top tier which are the nice tops of the big colas, and 2nd tier, which are the rest. I think I'll learn to make hash with the 223 grams of wet sugar leaves. I'll be adding more to this final entry in the coming days - this has been really tiring!
Final numbers for 5 ShishkaBerry plants:
Top tier buds (dried not cured) 372g
2nd tier buds (dried not cured) 150g
Hand plucked sugar leaves (wet) 223g
Waste (Sticks, stems, burnt leaf tips) 128g
I'm basing my comments on the taste by the glove-hash I smoked - wow it's really good! I'm looking forward to next month when these buds will be ready to enjoy π
I'd like to thank all my new friends here and the other growers that have helped me along the way π
Finally, I left you with an outtake video from one of the defoliation sessions πΊ
Stay tuned for updates...
UPDATE 1: Today I might have made some tincture or something, not sure. I slow-roasted the dried but not cured previously hand plucked sugar leaves and crumbled them up and put them in a mason jar (51 grams 100% dry weight) and added a little bottle of Absolut Vodka (375 ml). I shook the mixture vigorously for a couple of minutes then placed it in a cool area of the house to sit for a few weeks before a first test - not totally sure what I'm doing here).
UPDATE 2: Possibly made Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) out of the Alsolut vodka - ShishkaBerry mixture: I strained it so that there was no plant material, reduced it in a double boiler style, not sure what to do with the gooey stuff that's left as a result.
Jumping the gun a bit, but um, what is the average ratio of wet bud weight to dry bud weight? My only other grow's harvest ended up overdried, so I have no valid reference. Thanks my friends!
Ok i will try. If i harvest i do wet trimming and hang the whole branches onto a clothes rack..... before i weigh them... that is my wet weigh.
Then after 2-3 weeks of curing i cut the buds from the branches and weigh them again... in my case its 30 percent of the wet weigh if i do it like this
The trichomes on this strain are much smaller than the unknown bagseed I last grew. Do they naturally vary by strain or have I done something wrong? Last time I used different nutes - could that be a factor? Thanks friends! π
Pretty much varies by strain and the rippen differently for different strains some more sensitive than others, for example my gorilla glue trichomes were stocky and fully white they were so cloudy , GSCs were "longer" with more Amber sooner. In the end all trichomes are different and all trichomes are beautiful. Congrats on some amazing shishkas they look great ! Hope this helps π
Hey there, I was scratching my head why my trichs were stocky and all white for my gorillas because my last GSCs were sooo different like night and day different lol. I'll tell you what though - I use miron glass jars during the cure and the cure has a huge impact on the way the trichomes cure and produce thc, kinda keeping them longer if that makes sense . Just message me if you have any questions I ll be around. π
@CRiSPrGrow, HAHAHA I can't stop laughing because I was expecting the insults to be in French so yeah, I'm disappointed (I'm laughing in French BTW) ππ
@EhlersChick, here goes "I didn't know they even made wine in California ! Is it safe" or did you want it in French ? Sorry to disappoint if that's the case - nothing more French than disappointing people πππ
@EhlersChick, there is a lot of different types of nft set up you can have....the one I use is fool proof for no leaks...you do get vigorous faster growth and a lot better yeilds than soil...obviously less mess....the only thing for me is that i use synthetic feed(canna) which takes a lot of flushing out...I tried a organic food but had no luck with it
@@hydrohippy, So I just googled NFT and wow, I had no idea. So does it cut down on the total grow time or is more about larger plants/yields? I honestly don't see myself having this setup (I've just got a few pots in my bedroom closet haha) but I'm fascinated by the wide range of grow methods.
@EhlersChick, hi...this system is made by nutriculture and called nutrient film technique (Nft)...It took years to master this way of growing but once you get the hang of it you'll never look back....you've never seen anything grow so fast in ya life lol.
@Chefc14, Thank you! They look pretty good but ultimately, I'm in it for the smoke so I'm waiting until then to pat myself on the back. I hope they turn out okay this time.
But every grower does it different, For me dry weigh is without branches, 3 week dried and trimmed, i dont count the sugarleaves or the very small flowers
@Mrs_Larimar, I made the spreadsheet to give me an idea of what to expect in the future, I'm hoping I'll remember to make one for every grow. AND YOU WERE RIGHT! ~30% of wet weight π
@EhlersChick,Congratulations!!!!Very nice structured plants with wonderful dense purpely buds. very eyecatching the stuff. p.s. i love your excel- spreadsheet
Wow girl! Excellent results and me thinks u got some serious quality smoke thereπ. Love the outake vid. And hopefully the kittyβs happy with the harvest too. Oh and BTW - if youβre lookin for long term storage solutions might I recommend not only mason jars (airtight obviously) but also 62% boveda packs in each jar. U can get em on amazon for like $10-15 bucks. Theyβre fantastic and will preserve the dankness for an exceptionally long timeππ. Very nice!πππ
@TheBudWhisperer, so I ended up doing some more googling on the subject, and before you know it I ended up attempting to make RSO (pics added). I ate a tiny little piece of the hard stuff on the foil and I slept all day! Not sure why but there's the early results.
Iβve been watching this strain across a couple diaries and find it intriguing. Shame I missed this one cause it looks awesome! You definitely have your work cut out for you on the trimming end my Canuck friend! Good luck with the harvest!
@EhlersChick, totally get that but I have it good from a couple of experienced growers running this right now - think shes gonna go potentially 10 weeks of flower. No experience myself but thatβs what Iβm seeing with othersπ Good luck! Patience is a virtue and will rewardπ
@TheBudWhisperer, Thank you! I seem to have done something, maybe temperature, maybe nitrogen toxicity, maybe pH problems. Haha I'm not really sure but they seem to have hit the pause button. I'm regularly commending myself on how patient I'm being and I really really want to harvest and smoke already. π±
@CRiSPrGrow, I rescued him from the Humane Society on the day I was watching Parks & Rec. Poopy was a raccoon, their Most Wanted. I was prolly high π
I couldn't have done this without the help of the growing community for the past 50 years, so much work done that it's now legal in my country. π
@MedicationMiracle, Thank you! I'm really really excited that these seem to be going so well - I can't wait to smoke my own weed and I'm anxious to try this new strain. I'm looking forward to watching yours grow as well. π
@@hydrohippy, thanks so much. They smell amazing - every time I open a jar to check I'm thrilled all over again. I'm in the midst of learning how to make hash so we'll see how that goes. I check out your harvest yesterday - that carpet of roots is awesome!
@NorCalCloset, Thanks! I'm trying not to get my hopes up, trying to keep expectations low so I don't get disappointed. My first grow was a bit of a roller coaster ride, so I'm a bit nervous. π
Hi you Can encrease the Number of trichomes. Because its so much i let you a link here.

@Mrs_Larimar, Hey what a small world, GWE is where I learned to grow. I'll have to check out that link, as I haven't taken a good look at the site in a while - thanks!
@HighTV, thanks for the words of encouragement! My ladies do look pretty good, don't they? What the Internet taught me was the 3 weed commandments: Proper genetics, proper light, proper nutrients - the rest is a matter of art/taste/growing environment etc. I've focused my money accordingly and am happy with the results for now. Each grow I'll learn more and one day will have a clear understanding of the horticulture of cannabis. In the meantime, thanks for being on here to help me learn! π
