First time growing any of these 3 so I'm pretty excited and I like HSC Mint Jelly which I've grown a few times. The Humboldt Dream is an auto but that option wasn't available in GD which is why it shows as photoperiod humboldt dream.
All 3 sprouted on day 3. They were in 4" pots with fox farms Happy frog. Dream from this week on was the big grower, of the three, consistently the biggest and fastest growing.
Dream got up to 1.5" by end of week 1 and Kush was about 1" and Gas was .5".
I transplanted them on day 15 and put them outside. I had an idea to put them in a camping tent minus the rain fly, so most of the panels are fine mesh which keeps off the squirrels and bugs. It's a Coleman 2 person dome tent. The squirrels and bugs have been big problems in my past backyard grows.
Problem is, the tent is located in an area of the backyard which gets less direct light, only 4-5 hours per day. I didn't realize until week 4 that this wasn't a great idea.
I topped Dream on day 23 and then Gas & Kush on day 24; all at the 4th node.
By the start of this week I realized they were stretching, due to the direct sun being only about 4 hours/day and indirect sun another 5 hours or so.
On day 25 I decided to take them out of the tent and just monitor them for bugs. Dream is 14”, Kush is 11” and Gas is 6.5”.
I also decided to cut Dream and Kush back down two nodes because they had stretched so much. Amazingly they handled it really well. They were just happy to be out of the fuckin tent.
Out of the tent I can move them around as needed and I'm using fabric pots with handles so it's easy. Now they get direct sun from 830am to 530pm (with little moving involved). Hell yeah.
They started flowering on day 33-34. I started using adjustable stem benders for LST on all 3 plants, first time using these (instead of wires, strings etc).
Dream and Kush recovered really well from the HST - cutting down 2 nodes the previous week.
At day 36 start of week 6, Dream is 12”, Kush is 9.5” and Gas is 10.5”.
On day 37 I was adjusting a stem bender on Kush and broke a stem. I tried mending it but the break was bad and I had to cut that stem which was one of the main ones. It's my first time using this brand (Engineered Essentials) and overall they work fine but it's easy to slip and break a stem.
By day 41, Dream is 19”, Gas is 16” and Kush is 15” - the early flowering growth spurt is on.
They’re all showing good pest resistance. I’m monitoring and picking off bugs a few times each day but still they’re doing great. Very little leaf damage considering they’re constantly under assault from spider mites, white flies, caterpillars etc. I'm not using fly paper this time because last grow 2 birds got fly paper stuck to their wings and probably died that way - trying not to kill any birds this grow! I have a mosquito zapper (tennis racket style) which I use on the different flies and bugs around the plants, which helps some.
I bent a stem on Dream when I was repositioning a stem bender but I splinted it to a twig with tape and it seems fine.
Dream has reached 24”, Kush is 21” and Gas is 20”. The flowers on Gas and Kush a re little more developed so far than Dream but she'll probably catch up soon.
Good week so far, they seem happy and still fairly pest resistant. I've got a bird feeder near the plants and some catbirds and wrens have been picking bugs off the plants which helps too.
Kush and Gas have some orange pistils and nice trichome development. Dream is about a week or two behind them but bigger.
I'm traveling for a few days later this week and there a chance of rain each day which is good.
Summer solstice happened on day 51. It's been pretty damn hot, mid to upper 90s, humidity around 55%. They're handling the heat fine though. I water them around 9 or 10am 1 gallon each, dechlorinated water. I ran out of my Botanicare Bloom nutes so switched to Fox Farms Tiger Bloom which I had some leftover from other grows.
I hadn't expected to harvest her so soon but she was ready with over 15% amber trichomes... I let her dry out pretty well before harvesting. The buds are drying in the grow tent inside. I'll update with dry weight and smoke report in a couple of weeks.
I decided to harvest OG Kush after I returned from a trip and the trichomes were cloudy with a few amber. Going on another trip and need to have Kush and Dream dried and jarred before then. It's day 75.
I'll check back in with the dry weight.
