This is an outdoor light depravation run on 3 Purple Push Pops(PPP). These were clones on May 5.
I’m running this outdoor light dep grow side by side with my indoor garage grow. Each strain and site is set up to finish over 4 week period (July -Aug ). After they’re all finished I’ll post an average per strain in both the indoor and outdoor sites. That is, if I finish….

Two weeks ago at solstice they showed signs of flowering so I decided to go for a light dep grow and avoid the 100 degree days in September. I’m also trying to avoid moths and caterpillars, which frequently lay at night. These are outside during the day and placed into a closet at night.
I have multiple issues to deal with: light leaks, high humidity and ventilation in the closet.
Growing outdoors is easy, hand watering is a pain. I have some pumps and drip systems but moving them every morning and evening makes that hard to connect and disconnect every time.
So, this is just a test and we will see how things go.
I’m also growing a few black cherry gelatos, both in and out. So check those out.
Best of luck on your grow.

This week we switched nutrient lines across all Grow’s from a General Hydroponics line to Jacks RO, reducing my nutrient mixing by over half. So far I’m quite impressed with the workability and predictive nature (ie ppm/ec and ph) of the solution. My plants seem to love it.
As we are outside we’re dealing with pests and constantly changing environmental conditions. Coupled with stuffing large plants and a small closet make this grow more difficult than usual. I have all the exposure to the pests from the outside, coupled with the indoor high humidity environment of a closet – this is a breeding room for problems.
But we’re chugging along. Big buds are starting to develop, purples are showing up…hairs are getting long - all great signs. The plants look and smell beautiful- pictures just don’t do these beauties justice.
This week the pests arrived in coordination with the bud development. Spider mites and caterpillar larva showed up this week and that put fear in my heart . I’m trying to deal with them, but……it’s a lot. It’s the mites that worry me because I’m running a garage grow side by side will expose my garage grow to these pests (mites). Mites inside tents are a nightmare.
Lots of work ahead. ETA third week of august.
Best of luck on your grow.
Check out my purple push pops inside grow- it’s amazing.
Check out my Black cherry gelato, indoor and outdoor grow.
This is an outdoor light depravation run on 3 Purple Push Pops(PPP). Light dep means artificially removing a few hours of sunlight. It’s been about 40 days of moving 8 plants 2x a day, and that’s getting old….. but the results are amazing.

This past week we struggled with many issues: heat over 90 degrees; big plants in small 5G coco pots demanding constant feeding. A mislabeled bucket resulting in potassium shock in one plant.
Caterpillars are the arch enemy of growers in Southern California. And boy did they show up. 1cm long little fu€&ers. I got over 30 this week. That’s over 30 budsites removed. Using BT, so it’s being managed.
Buds are just stacked. Plants are leaning from their weight. Some limbs have fallen over from the weight.

Caterpillars are the arch enemy of growers in Southern California. And boy did they show up. 1cm long little fu€&ers. I got over 100 this week. That’s over 130 total budsites removed.
Buds are just stacked. Cats are demolishing the top colas. Meanwhile limbs are leaning from their weight. Some limbs have fallen over from the weight.
We have a hard decision to make on quality versus quantity. At this rate of caterpillar losses, even with BT, we’re looking at over 50% losses on yield if we continue, probably closer to 70%. Or, do we harvest now, knowing that the quality will be 20% -30% less than it could be?
