Back this time with a new strain. Same as I usually do it, 2 feminized seeds of the same kind side by side. Both seeds sprouted same day, so its a good start for sure.
Plants still matching each others growth and staying consistent. Starting to out grow the red plastic cups and will be looking to transplant next time I water.
Transplanted into the larger 5 gal containers early this week. Waited a few days for them to get settled in and then just topped and trimmed today.
Decided to go with topping at 5th node and keeping the 4th node underneath since this is supposed to be a short plant. When I have height issues with tall/stretchy plants I usually top at the 4th node and keep the 3rd underneath to keep the plants short, but the plant is so close to the soil it's harder to water. So with this shorter plant (hopefully, first time growing it) I think going nodes 4 & 5 will make watering easier and still be short enough to not have height issues.
Letting it grow out from the topping and trimming from last week. Starting to LST so they will stay flat. Planning to top once more before I flip to flower, but I have to wait for them to veg a little more.
Continued to trained each day to maintain flat node growth. Topped the end of each node once more. Looks like they are about ready to be put into the flower tent in the next few days.
This week I switched the plants to the flower tent. So now they are under the LED light and 12/12 light cycle. They've been 12/12 for a few days but haven't really started showing any signs of flowering. Left plant is starting to show white pistils, but right plant isn't showing anything yet.
Both are from feminized seeds, but still waiting to confirm right plant. Started adding Grow Big to the feedings, and it jumped the PPMs up to 1104 from ~300. 2nd week of flower I switch to Tiger Bloom, then 3rd week I combine both.
So last week after I flipped to 12/12, left plant started to show white pistils but right plant wasn't.
Then right plant started to only grow pollen balls. In 9+ years of growing I've had a handful of hermie plants from feminized seeds, but never one this male. I saved all my other hermie plants just by pinching off all the balls before they open with 0 seeds or pollination, but I was concerned it was 100% male (highly unusual for a feminized seed), and was considering trashing the plant. I waited over a week to see if it would kick into female mode, and it never really did. It just kept growing more balls, so I decided to trash it.
To me, it seems to be a case of bad seed genetics, which is a shame since I consider Grower's Choice seeds to be a quality seed breeder and I was hoping to avoid these types of seed genetic problems.
So left plant has the tent to herself now. Left plant has good genetics and I'm considering taking some cutting to clone next run instead of doing it by seed.
Last week I had to toss the right plant since it was too male. So, this week I've been helping the remaining plant fill out the tent since she has the space all to herself.
Also did some defoliation this week to remove a lot of the shade that was covering the middle of the plant. PPMs are starting to increase at this point in flower as I add in Tiger Bloom and Grow Big together.
Just cruising this week. The one plant is filling in the tent by itself nicely. Starting to see some trichomes form on the leaves. Can't wait to see some of the purple color come out in the next few weeks.
Bud sites getting a lot bigger. It's not stretching at all anymore so this is a really short plant. It is listed as short height by the breeder, and I got only like 6 inches of stretch after switching to flower. Great for shorter spaces like my tent. It's also due for another defoliation, which will also be the final defoliation before chop. I'm using the 1-3-6 defoliation plan, defoliating around weeks 1, 3, and 6.
Seeing a lot of fattening and resin production. Going to defoliate tomorrow and then it should pretty much just cruise till harvest. Just now starting to see some purple color come in on the fan leaves; not playing with the temperatures, it's just the genetics.
Did my last defoliation a little late, and went pretty light. The bud sites are looking really squatty and thick just like a 100% indica should be. More of the purple color is coming in now. Looking like what, 2 more weeks? 😎
Bud sites fattening with resin and terpene production in overdrive. Purple is spreading to the sugar leaves and the rest of the plant. Trichomes don't look ready yet, it still has atleast one week left if not two more.
Finishing the last week with just plain water to flush, no nutrients. Looking pretty much finished now, but going to give it about 1 more week before chop. Very colorful, visually appealing plant.
My new favorite indica. Everything you would think of about a Indica this has. Short growth, fat/dense nugs, mostly body/not really heady, lots of resin, great for night time use/pain relief.
The purple color is of course cool.
Just chop'd today, so I will be updating this after it dries. Doing it a little different this time and doing a dry trim instead of a wet trim. So right now I just did the first stage of harvest, pulled the larger fan leaves and hung upside-down to dry. After it's dry, I'll finish up trimming with my new trim bin.
Super happy with the overall qualities of this indica, it's short and the buds are super dense/fat, yield was very big. Hopefully the taste/effects will be just as good, looking forward to a 100% indica. Eager for it to finish drying so I can test some. 😊,
7 Day Update: Still hang drying. Environment has been a steady 70F with 50% humidity exactly. Should be ready to trim/manicure and jar in a day or two.
10 Day Update: Finally finished drying, and into the jars to cure. Nugs are extremely frosty, large, and dense. Weight was pretty impressive at 215.5 grams for a 240W light. Pungent yet sweet/berry smell/taste. Got a pretty good sized mound of keif from the trim bin.
