This is the 2nd Cherry Cola bean I've planted ... the first one had nitrogen toxicity and mutated (and half the branches fell off at one point) ... BUT, she was SUPER frosty - like crazy frosty. So, I really felt she deserved another shot - now that I've learned more and can hopefully keep her healthier this time!
2024-07-28. ... she popped!
At around the first week mark .... those first serrated leaves are growing a bit bigger/faster than usual ... not sure if that's a positive yet or not ... but, it's always nice to see vigorous growth early on! The last Cherry Cola I planted looked fantastic up through week 4 or so ... then everything went to shit and she became a mutant (Nitrogen toxicity, mostly) ... so, I'll be keeping an eye on this girl!
This girl is most certainly Fast ... growing very quickly, and looks like she might be a tall one; although, I topped her early this week ... but it doesn't seem like it phased her in the slightest. The top leaves doubled in size overnight AFTER topping her. Very impressive recovery and vigorous growth. I'm excited and she hasn't even started showing me the good stuff, yet :)
I do like the internodal spacing on this one ... at least up to this point .... we're about a week or so away from that big growth spurt ... I'm hoping she stretches just a bit more - I find it easier to train when there's more space between the bud sites and it's also easier to water taller plants (if manual watering, that is). She has some really fat/round leaves (better solar collectors?) ... interesting!
She didn't respond to being topped like I would have expected ... usually, after topping, the lower branches seem shoot out quickly and become dominant ... in this case, I haven't seen that shift. Everything seems to be growing as if it hadn't been topped ... she is still growing taller than most of my other plants - and since we're still a week away from preflower, I imagine she'll shoot up even more. The two new "top" buds are growing oddly ... it's going to make LST control more difficult - despite the node spacing.
Regardless ... growth is still pretty vigorous and she looks healthy ... so there's that.
She hit preflower this week ... vertical growth has slowed ... she's starting to fill out nicely ... I've been tying down the branches (LST) every other day to keep everything nice and even ... but that might have caused her to slow a bit ... main thing is that I don't see any "problems" at the moment ... color is nice .... no deficiencies (although I'd certainly hope not with this nute line).
She should be in full flower next week!
Not a huge explosion of growth during preflower ... She was growing faster than usual (or, faster than previous plants) ... then I topped her ... for several days, she seemed to not have been affected at all ... then preflower started and I was expecting the usual growth spurt ... she didn't really do much at that point - just started flowering ... not much additional vertical growth.
Regardless of the upward growth - I love seeing the explosion of growth on the trichomes ... this strain seems to have funky frost all over the sugar leaves - the base of the trichomes are so pronounced - it looks like when you get "goosebumps" on your arm ... these are goosetrikes :)
This was a nice week ... she really started to show the sticky icky ... the smell is awesome. Not sure how to categorize it, but it's fruity and kinda spicy (like a mild herb/spice mix).
The trichomes are very thick on this girl ... very pronounced and thick ... and it's still so early - she's only been in flower for a week or so. I got some high hopes for this one!
she's hungry .... showing slight deficiencies even though I'm using a pretty consistent nute schedule (that typically starts to burn the tips of other plants) ... not this lady ... she just can't get enough. Only the very slightest of discoloration on the tips, but the leaves are showing nitrogen and calcium deficiencies ... trying to up the nute level a bit in future feedings, but trying not to burn her out either.
It's a good sign, though ... look at that frost. It's lovely .. and still early in flower.
Oh so frosty .. oh so nummy nummy ... Every time I go in and try to tuck some of the leaves away, my hand brushes up against those sugar leaves and the smell is just divine ... sweet, slightly spicy ... definitely reminiscent of a dark, flavored soda. Very sticky, too ... really hoping those buds start to plump up more, though ... right now the tops are still just tiny nugget buds ... should still have almost a month left before she's ready, though ... couple weeks she should be all kinds of chunky!
Not much to say ... just waiting for her to finish up - with great anticipation! The smell is just divine and she's so sticky and frosty ... I'm very excited to see how she smokes ... I haven't checked the trichomes yet ... but, it looks like she should be ready in a week or so. The buds are feeling a lot heavier, so I know we're in the home stretch!
Just watching her thicken up ... still super frosty and still smells absolutely delicious. Took some trichome pics - looks like she's pretty much ready ... most are cloudy. I think I'll just let her go another week to finish up. Very excited to try this one!
