Week 2! We made it.
Technically starts tomorrow, but I am posting to week 2 today since it is the last night of week 1.
Big changes to start the week. I decided to cull the runt of the 3, as it just isn't growing fast enough in addition to its mutated leaf shape genes. I think I will be better off just putting all my time and effort into the other 2 plants that are thriving, especially in a grow tent as small as the one I am using, it feels like my yield will be more determined by square feet rather than plant quantity.
The healthy 2 have leaves that grow out past their initial pots, so I have transplanted them into some 5gal grow bags. These still seem small to me, so there may be another transplant in this grow.
Waited for soil to dry out and put them into fresh pots of FFOF soil. Seems to have gone off without a hitch, but we shall see how they adjust to their new homes.
Watered them in with around 2/3 of a gallon of plain distilled water, PH'd to 6, as this fresh soil should be hot enough that they won't need Nutes for a while. This was enough water for the bags to run through. Now that I am in fabric bags, I will need to get some trays for them to sit in to deal with the run off.
Hoping that they recover well, as they are on track to be topped this week in preparation for mainlining.
08/26/24- update- both plants seem to have recovered from the transplant well. Perked back up and continued to put on some size. Had a humidity spike of 82% today, so I put a damp-rid next to one of the intake vents, and it seems to have stabilized back into the 60% range. Will need to invest in a dehumidifier before flipping to flower in a few weeks.
08/27/24 - update- Good growth today. Added a couple bug traps just to screen for any pests. I had to leave the tent unzipped at the top for a couple days to help deal with the humidity, so I want to be safe, but I doubt I have any pests. Also got some trays to place to pots in to give some airflow to the bottom of the bags and catch overflow. Still hydrated from their first watering, so likely won't water until tomorrow night or the 28th. Bigger plant is getting it's 4th node, so 1 more and I will top it and begin mainlining. I also ordered a dehumidfier and a 400w grow light to replace the 100w model I have now, as I will need more wattage as I get farther into Veg and eventually flower. Live in a humid place, so I got the dehumidifier to control the RH during flower. Last thing I want is bud rot at the end of all this work.
08/29/24 - update - Still going strong. Containers were dry and much lighter, so I gave them their second round of watering since transplant. Added a half dose of CalMag to this watering to encourage continued cell wall growth and maintain that sweet deep green leaf color, not enough to Nute-Lock them though since they are in a fresh hot batch of FFOF and don't need any supplementary nutrients beyond the small dose I fed today. The larger of the two plants is almost done pushing out it's 4th node, so I will likely be topping it next week as the 5th node emerges and establishes itself. Hoping that a small dose of CalMag will prep it for the recovery after topping. Smaller plant is 1 node behind the overachiever, so I will likely hold off on training until it catches up, and may even forego mainlining entirely if it continues to lag behind the other.
08/30/24 - Big Updates - Had a pest scare, found some small black bugs (spider mites I think) on the bottom of one of the first leaves of my biggest plant. I cleaned the entire tent out, disinfected it, and gave the plants a heavy coat of neem oil on every leaf and the top soil, let them dry out for 4 hours under normal house lights to keep their light schedule, and then got them back into the tent just before their scheduled 6 hours of dark. Added some Diatomaceous Earth to the top layer of the soil as well to kill anything that might be lurking. I think I caught it early enough that there should be no problems, but I am going to add weekly spray downs and more frequent tent cleanings to my routine. My new light came in today, so now I have a 400w sonofarmer which fills out the tent much better for even light coverage, and will have the power I need to get these girls growing huge in flower. Thing is a beast. Have it just over 2ft above the canopy, running at around 25% power and it is matching the 400 PPFD that my 100w Vivosun VS1000 was putting out at 75% power 18" above the canopy.
08/31/24 - Update - Topped the girls last night and they seem to be recovering fine. Not a ton of growth today, but I have put them trough a lot this week, so it is to be expected. Pests seem to be under control now, no sign of them since Neem oil and D.E. application. Added a Dehumidifier into the tent because the RH was getting a little higher than I want during the day. The bigger of the two plants seems to have gotten a couple minor spots of damage on some leaves from the oil staining them. I may have not diluted it enough before applying. Live and learn I guess. I doubt it will be very detrimental in the long run. Gave them a light watering tonight as they were pretty much completely dry. This watering had Flora-Grow and Flora-Micro in a half dose added in. Just trying to give them a little boost if they need it to recover well.
Excited to start Week 3.
Hey growmie, your babies look great, don't worry they gonna develop into strong beautiful ladies! I guess if it's been 10 days since planting the seeds, then they must be around 5-6 days old. Also it doesn't really matter because I had plants that looked underdeveloped during first couple of weeks but they grew to become biggest yielders ;) Enjoy your grow!
Damn dude looking good!! Taken some notes already since my LSSH's seem to lack behind a lot, but I made big mistakes in the beginning so its nice to see what they could already look like if i'd taken more care :D
good job at controlling the pest dude.
Happy Growing!
