Clones from Do si dos 33 Barney's farm mother
3 fresh clones + 1 month old plant (from clone)
120x120 tent
Kingbrite x55 Lm301h diodes 480w
G.H.E./T.A. nutrients + wetting agent + Botanicare cal-mag.
Hand Watering.
The plan is to grow them to fill a scrog.
Flip to flower and use another net for stability.
Week 1, 8/4/24
Week 2:
roots outgrew the first container. (16x20cm grow bag)
Repotted to 5L containers with 80% coco / 20% perlite (double buffered with cal-mag).
One plant fell and broke one top.
Tried to superglue the top but to no avail.
Defoliated the already mainlined clone to stop it growing too fast and let the other plants to catch up
Hand watering until the plants outgrow their pots.
Temps little high, turning on AC when temps reach higher than 32c
Week 2, 8/11/24
Week 3 veg 8/18/24
Started to train all the plants for mainline
Topped all plants second time
Heavily defoliated the oldest plant to let other catch up
Week 4 veg 8/25/24
Repotted all plants to 5 gal air pots (the cheap AliExpress kind).
Watering periodically when pots feel lighter but not totally dry.
Defoliated, topped and trained plants to get as many tops as possible before putting a scrog.
Connected the pipes and connectors of the watering system.
(waiting for plant in the other closet to finish flowering to use it as a mother plant grow space and to do a SOG grow in this 4x4 tent)
Week 5 veg 9/1/24
Watering periodically when pots feel lighter but not totally dry.
Defoliated, topped and trained plants.
Finished building the automatic watering system + testing it.
Put on a scrog.
Waiting for the plant in the Ikea closet to finish flowering, take clones from the plants in the tent and use the Ikea closet as a mother plant grow space.
The goal of this diary is to test different growing techniques and conditions for the same genetics to get the most yield, aroma, taste, color and size.
Week 6 veg 9/8/24
Defoliated and trained plants.
Watering with automatic watering system, works great.
Watering 3 times a day (with little to no runoff)
Week 1 of flowering 9/18/24
Took 4 clones a day before.
Defoliated and trained plants.
Watering 4 times a day (with little runoff at the first watering)
changed nutrients to fit the transition from veg to flower (base chart from CocoForCannabis, with small changes to the nutrient line I have)
put on another scrog (to keep the colas straight when they get too big for the branch to hold them)
Week 2 of flowering 9/25/24
Defoliated and trained plants.
Watering 4 times a day (with little runoff at the first watering)
one hand watering with full saturation of the media with 10% runoff at the end of the week.
Checking runoff EC once in 3 days.
Plants looking good and stretching.
Week 3 of flowering 10/2/24
Put on another net for support.
Defoliated and lollipoped front plants.
Watering 4 times a day (with little runoff at the first watering)
one hand watering with full saturation of the media with 10% runoff at the end of the week.
Checking runoff EC once in 3 days.
Hopefully plants reached maximum stretch (lights now at max height and 80% power).
changed nutrients schedule to mid bloom (base chart from CocoForCannabis, with small changes to the nutrient line I have).
Adding 2.5ml/gal of H2O2 (35%) to the reservoir to keep bacteria away.
Week 4 of flowering 10/9/24
Defoliated plants.
Watering 4 times a day (with 10%-20% runoff)
hand watering to full saturation of the media with 20% runoff at the end of the week.
Checking runoff EC every 3 days.
Lights now at max height and 90% power.
Cheap AliExpress exhaust fan timer broke.
Humidity rose up to 99% inside the grow tent, but fans kept circulating the air.
After noticing, immediately turned on the dehumidifier to 40% RH with extra fan pointing on the canopy to max.
hopefully no herm problems and mold issues.
Adding 2.5ml/gal of H2O2 (35%) to the reservoir to keep bacteria away.
Week 5 of flowering 10/16/24
Changed nutrients to fit week 5
Buds are getting bigger and thicker.
Defoliated plants.
Watering 4 times a day (with 10%-20% runoff)
hand watering to full saturation of the media with 20% runoff at the end of the week.
Checking runoff EC every 3 days.
Lights now at max height and 90% power.
After replacing the exhaust fan timer, didn't notice ant issues.
Adding 2.5ml/gal of H2O2 (35%) to the reservoir to keep bacteria away.
Week 6 of flowering 10/23/24
Changed nutrients to fit week 6
Buds are getting even bigger and thicker.
Defoliated a little.
Noticed a PH of 4.8 in runoff, same as the late stage of flower in my previous grow.
After lowering feed EC, CalMag on max strength, flushing with 0.8ec nutes for 3 days in a row, nothing changed and PH stayed the same.
Read in a forum thread about constant low PH in the rootzone when growing in coco.
Got great info about CEC, water, nutrients and little chemistry from a detailed explanation. (https://www.icmag.com/threads/recurring-problem-with-low-ph-in-coco.338385/page-2#post-10843765)
Flushed plants with tap water + calmag, PH 6.5.
Used 120L total for 4 plants in 2 days.
1st day: flushed after lights on, did not water until 2 hours before lights off and flushed again.
Runoff PH went up a little, but not to the correct range.
2nd day: flushed after lights on and checked runoff EC + PH, of each plant.
Fortunately, PH got corrected to 5.8, and I returned to automatic watering 4 times a day (with 10%-20% runoff).
Thoughts:
In the last grow, I thought I had a problem because of salts buildup in the media with constantly low PH in late flower.
I didn't fully correct the problem till chop day.
Same problem here in the same stage of flower without the salt buildup.
After reading every forum I could find about the problem, I understood that my bloom nutes were the main problem because of their chemical composition.
The coco ability to exchange ions lead to the low PH in the rootzone.
It got worse quickly because I did not use any tap water with the feedings, so the PH could swing easily and drastically without resistance.
After I looked online for the T.A. feeding chart, I saw they used TriPart Grow till week 7 of flower, the Nitrogen type they are using will up the PH.
CocoForCannabis chart that I'm using, has not enough nitrogen to combat the bloom nutes PH down effect in flower.
It gets even worse with RO water because there are no minerals that can resist PH down.
Now I'm using 30% tap water with rest RO water, T.A. TriPart feeding chart with calmag and silica.
Hopefully I have corrected the problem for the rest of the grow.
It wasn't easy, because there were lots of variables that worsened the problem quickly.
Now I'm checking runoff PH and EC daily.
Update on next week :)
Week 7 of flowering 10/30/24
Changed nutrients to fit week 7
Buds are getting even bigger and thicker.
Last week PH drop happened again a couple of days after the major flush.
PH in rootzone is getting lower every day.
Runoff still at 10-20%, so no salt buldup, EC same as intake or litttle higher.
Flushed again with FloraKleen and watered with TriPart Micro, Grow, Bloom with CalMag.
Bought Potassium Bicarbonate and Calcium Carbonate as suggested by "Aqua Man", to buffer coco in the future. (https://www.thcfarmer.com/threads/ph-dropping-from-5-8-to-3-9-overnight-what-is-causing-this.87011/post-2329509)
changed nutes on 11/2/24, to FinalPart at 1.3 EC.
Checking runoff PH and EC daily.
Week 8 of flowering 11/6/24
Changed nutrients to FinalPart at 1.3 EC
Buds growth slowed down, they are full and packing some nice weight,
leaves color change started to get very noticeable with pink leaves showing more and more.
Checking runoff PH and EC daily.
Upped the PH+ to 7.0 to combat lowering PH in the rootzone. (seems like it slowed down the PH dropping)
Runoff at 10-20%, EC within 0.2 range of initial watering.
Used FinalPart for 6 days.
11/7/24 started to give only water to leech the leftover nutes from the media and get more fading color on the leaves,
Week 9 of flowering 11/13/24
The lady is at her final phase,
Giving her only water.
Buds packing some nice weight,
Leaves color change is very noticeable, pink leaves showing more and more.
Chop day sooner than later. :)
Very happy with the grow, big dense nugs with pleasant citrus aroma.
Next grow i'll use 3 gal pots instead of 5 with FloraFlex matrix watering system.
i'll separate the distance between the scrog nets further apart, so the buds won't lean on each other.
Need to dial the light better next time to prevent foxtailing,
