Holy Skyscrapers Batman! #2 just won't quit growing! She has been on a 3-4 inch/ day growth spurt since the beginning of the month (2/1) and when I started measuring every day. I'm afraid she has grown to close to the light, although, she is growing off to the side of the light. I can get another 5 inches or so if I change the light rigging, but I need them to stop stretching before I decide. Hell, #3 hasn't even started flowering yet but I think she is close. IMO, I think she will be the beast among the GC, her structure, size, color and 9 fingered leaves make her stand out from the rest. #2's height is impressive. I'm not sure why the whole garden has gotten so big. I'm sure it's a combination of factors.
My first garden was malnourished from the beginning compared to this run (look at my 1st diary week to week and there is no comparison). They were under fed, nutes and water. Too much light by getting to close to soon. Not knowing any signs of stress or deficiency I can only go by what I observe and read. I was lucky to have a harvest last time. I harvested 4 plants out of 9 attempts. Not to good. I started with 2 FastBuds GC, 2 FastBuds WCOG and a SensibleSeeds OGK. They all died within the 1st five days except a WCOG. Not wanting to waste anymore FastBuds until I learned to grow from seed to harvest I reworked my medium. I added perlite and more living soil concentrate and put 2 seeds directly in the mix without a buffer just like you would sow a seed in your outside garden and I put 2 in a nutrient depleted ball of coco that was placed in the living soil. Only one of the latter survived (I'll never germinate that way again). So, now I know why only one of the first five survived. Also, during the first grow I was obsessed with getting the light as low as possible as fast as possible. I think I may have stunted the plants and actually caused them to stop growing at times. I say this only because of the research and info I read after I harvested and before this grow. And I think I under watered the garden, not wanting to over water I was overly cautious. Not knowing how to grow with coco I treated it like soil and you can't do that. I waited for the pot to get light before watering. If you do that with coco you waited too long. The bag or pot should feel heavy, just don't over do it like I did. There is a balance you can only learn by observing your plants. And by waiting to long to feed the plants were obviously deprived and could have been better. This is still the hardest thing for me. How much water do they need per day. That's one reason I'm trying the Hempy Buckets. I like the idea of being able to measure how much water the plant takes in each day by feeding them the same amount every day and measuring the runoff. eg. 1 gallon in. 3/4 gallon out. Plant took in 1/4 of a gallon. I put in 1/2 gallon a day right now and getting a little over a quart back (check out my OGKushAutomatics diary).
This grow, 9 of 9 germinated and all survived until week 2 and I decided to overwater everyone and basically kill 2 of my GC. They eventually started growing again but it was to late and I had started my Hempy Buckets and replaced their space and pulled them from the grow room. Regardless of my mistake, the garden continued to grow and overflow the boundaries of the light and I was getting worried about loss of yield due to poor lighting on the edges. BTW, my grow room is 8'x8'x8'6" and my light is good for 5x5 veg and 4x4 flower realistically. And she was starting to push the 5' barrier. Well, we couldn't really afford it just yet but the wife gave me the okay to purchase some more lighting (the plan was to expand when I built the room anyway, just not this soon) so I ordered some AutoCobs to supplement my current light and actually test them as stand alone 60w COBs. I have seen some growers get amazing results with these lights. I'm using single COBs over each Hempy bucket, Tangie'matic and one combined with my current light. Everyone is happy now. BUT, my biggest issue now is height. I'm running out. I don't really want to super crop any of them but I will if I have to. So, I'm sure the way I used my light this grow had something to do with how tall these plants are (considering my first grow max height was about 29 inches for the OGK and 15 inches for WCOG).
This grow I decided to be more aggressive with the watering and see how hard I could push it. I learned quick, you can over water coco, be careful. I let'em dry out a couple days and all but 2 rebounded quickly. I thought maybe I had stunted them for the rest of the grow. I was completely wrong and soon they were at a quart a day then 2 quarts. Last couple days, I'm at 3 to 4 quarts a day. I'm pushing 'em a little bit going into flower because I want them at max capacity (I think it's 3 quarts, 4 may be too much) so they can produce as many bud sites and as much flower as possible. Obviously, a more aggressive water schedule has made a big difference too.
Now the biggest difference, imo, may be the Supersoil and living soil mix I used this time. Last grow I did a basic living soil mixture. This grow I used the living soil mix (which had been mixed and cooking in a tote for about 3 months before use) with a super soil mix (that was mixed 7 - 10 days prior to being placed in the bottom 1/3 of each grow bag) and the results speak for themselves. Size, structure, color are all phenomenal. No tip burn or deficiencies that I have noticed. I may have hit it out of the park with this mix, not sure, but I like the results so far. Question is, does it have enough to bring it all home? We'll see in about 5 or 6 weeks. What do y'all think?
Thanks for tuning in everyone. All questions or comments are greatly appreciated. Peace
2/15 **UPDATE** GC#2 gained another 3 inches to 69 inches. I installed new rigging for the light fixture and gained 6 more inches. Maximum height for the light is now 7 foot 3 inches. It is now 18 to 24 inches from the Kolas and 24 to 30 inches above the canopy. Just about perfect if they would stop stretching. Peace
@Fast_Buds, Appreciate it! Send more seeds please..... It probably has more to do with my germination technique than anything. I have had 100% germination with FB, no complaints. Peace.
@@cylentknight, appreciate it bro. Sending positive grow vibes for the zkittlez, be sure to tag me. I have just started to really enjoy the fruits of my 1st harvest after about 3 weeks of curing "getting better all the time, better, better, better...." Anyway, I just put a couple more beans, OG Kush Autos, in some rockwool plugs today. I am going to try and do a couple Hempy Buckets with MegaCrop and see how that works. I'll give you a tag when it's up and running. If I did everything right with the seeds it won't be long. But, if I screw up germination it may take a couple try's. "The sky was yellow and the sun was blue" Peace
Don't worry too much about when they start to flower. At least yet... I'm currently running 8 diaries of Fast Bud genetics. I still have a pineapple express that is only preflowering after 53 days. Both of my Stardawgs didn't flower until after 49 days. With that said, autoflowers have been a mixed bag for me. I once had a Northern Lights auto that only grew an inch in 30 days and never flowered. Sometimes they're tall and sometimes they're short. There's a lot of randomness in what you get. Almost reminds me of collecting baseball cards. Never knew what you were going to get. All your girls look healthy!l Happy gardening. Peace!
@Smowkabowl, No worries bud! I use the pre-flower term when a photoperiod plant is in late veg and starting to show clues of it's sex. The stretch sounds better. My apologies for the misunderstanding. Peace!
@Sgtoso, yeah, probably not a good word (pre-flower) to use. I'm not sure where I read or picked up that term. We'll just call it "The Stretch". Hopefully, they're just about done stretching and will settle in to bud production. All the 44 day plants are now flowering 😀. I put up new rigging yesterday and gained another 6 inches in height. I would have lowered the light sooner but every time I did I had to back it off due to stress or what I perceived as stress (canoeing and saw-tooth). They are doing better and I'll have to do a supercrop on the 69 incher. I have been reading up on the process. Peace bro
@Smowkabowl, You're plants might be stretching too much because they're too far from the top canopy. I've never heard of pre-flower stretch. My photoperiods stretch during the first couple of weeks of flower. I think you'll be ok with autos as they'll stop stretching once they get closer to the light. Peace
@Sgtoso, thanks bro, I'll be pulling #2 and #5 later today. They have a few amber trichs popping up and I don't want to lose the cerebral for the couch. What do you recommend? Peace
@Sgtoso, dude, I took some cuttings a few days ago so I could check the trichomes under the microscope. I put the tray in the closet and forgot about it until I took more cuttings and the previous cuttings were dry. I tried the Green Crack 1st! For early testing it had a good cerebral buzz and the taste is unlike anything I've ever tasted and can't really describe it. It will be interesting to see how it evolves with a proper cure. The smell is sweet, lemony and a little diesel maybe, very nice overall. Oh and after breaking up the bud my fingers had a fresh orange peel smell... like heaven. I'm already addicted! Peace bro
@Smowkabowl, i tried it a few months ago and it was beautiful!
Fruity flavour with a nice balanced high. The buds themselves were quite large and super dense. Gorgeous to look at and to smoke. I’ve always loved Snoop Dog!
He’s old school and picked the perfect name for this strain.
@Momgrowsthechronic, appreciate it Mom. I'm really looking forward to the GC myself, it sounds like my dream plant. I hope it taste as good as, Snoop Dog said, when he named it. Peace
Nice diary, good photos and really interesting supercropping an auto. Accidentally broke off the main stem on one of my autos but the rest of the stems just charged ahead!
@goodgrow, appreciate it man. #2 has been in the jar for a couple weeks now and I'll be doing the harvest and smoke results soon. Thanks for stopping by and stay tuned. Peace
I just saw the week 11 cover photo and that was enough to know that this is one sick grow dude. The pic is gorgeous, the fade on the plant is dreamy and I bet the rest of this diary is straight dope. I’ll catch up when I can. Just awesome dude👍👌💪😎😳
Appreciate it @Momgrowsthechronic. It may have been the way I used the light this grow, even the West Coast OG got to be 48 and 50 inches. We'll see what happens next time. I just got some FastBuds Zkittles and Lemon AK. Oh, and I got more WCOG and Tangie autos and they sent some RQS Royal Cookies autos as freebies. 😝 I think I'm set for the next year. Peace
@Sgtoso, Thanks bro. LOL>>> I have been sampling it for a week or so now. I can't wait to try it cured. It is incredible so far. Taste like nothing I've ever tasted before and the high is strong and long lasting. Peace
@Sgtoso, neither have I but everything I read said they would be fine and she was and is. I figured the worst that could happen is I lose the Cola, either way. Peace
@cabinriver, hey man, I enacted the plan earlier this week when she went to 71 inches and I supercropped her at 56 inches. I probably should have went a little lower but I'm a newb and still learning every day. I'll be doing an update later today or tomorrow. Peace
