Three seeds were started in Rapid Rooters in the windowsill. Used plain bottled water until they germinated and a root was seen emerging from the Rooter. I then moved them to their DWC bubbleponics set up in the grow tent with lights scheduled to be on 18 hours per day. All but one germinated but we put her in a bucket anyway just in case and have been top - watering that one. Put water in buckets higher than normal, touching the baskets so that the clay pellets stay moist this week as the baby roots grow. Nuted well-water with General Hydroponics based on the week 1 schedule on GrowWeedEasy, Also used 1 tsp of hydroguard per bucket and recommended amount of Calimagic. Ph'd up to around 6.0. Each bucket holds about 3 gallons of water usually and I use that as my basis for measuring nutes even though the buckets are more full this week (so nutes are a little dilute). Each bucket has an air stone in it, but no top watering paraphernalia, as I just check them once or twice a day to make sure they aren't dried out until the roots grow down. There are grow baskets in the lid of each bucket and I seat the Rapid Rooter in expanded clay pellets.
Week 1 went well and I moved the plants to their buckets this week. Small sprouts on all but one HubbaBubbaSmelloScope - glad we got an extra seed in that set of 3 so we can try to germinate another next time.
Great growth on 2 of 3 seeds. Roots visible and happy green leaves. Ph went way up through the week and was over 7 when I checked, so this time when I mixed my nutes I did not pH-up to 6.0 like last time. This time, I left the pH where it was (between 5.4 and 5.6). I'll check the pH in the morning and adjust if needed. Lights still on 18/6.
The one seed that didn't make it was probably due to user error. I pulled out the seed on the HubbaBubba and it appeared to start germinating then dry out. I was not consistent on top-watering this time. The other 2 had roots that were long enough when I put them in the buckets I guess. Next time I'll wait until they are an inch or so tall before I put them in the buckets.
Nutes:

HubbaBubbaSmelloScope is growing beautifully, and has healthy happy roots. Checked the pH each morning, had to pH down a couple of times until it stabilized within range after a couple of days. Did not change the nute water today, will do that on Wednesday or so when they drink down a little more. If it ain't broke and all... This time I am going to fill the buckets a day or two before the change to see if the pH stabilizes earlier in the week.
When I do change the nute water this week, I'll put in week 3 nutes.
Dang these girls are growing! Really healthy leaves and roots, and there are already hairs appearing at the bud sites, so quick veg cycle as well. The coolest thing is how these plants are growing compared to other strains. The branches are growing long and wide and laying out as if I was doing LST on them already.
Some of the lower fan leaves got an odd brown patchiness on them, I'm guessing because of pH fluctuations last week. This week, after letting the buckets sit out and not adjusting the pH, there was a lot less adjustment to keep them in range. Additionally, I dropped my pH meter in the bucket this week so had to go back to old school indicator solution, and though it is not as accurate, I actually think just getting the water in the piss yellow range seems to work pretty well. I picked off the worst of the leaves. Weirdly, they stayed short and didn't grow out long stems to reach the light like usual, the regular cola stems grew longer instead. I'm interested to see where we grow from here!
Changed bucket water yesterday and put in week 4 nutes. Buckets sat out for a few days after filling before nuteing and they were in pH range without adjustment.
What beautiful plants for 5 weeks old! I'm very happy with how these girls are growing, and their root balls are magnificent. I pinched off a few fan leaves but haven't done too much defoliation thus far. I haven't done any LST with them either since they are growing so bushy and open already. They are well into flower, which is pretty cool at 5 weeks. Nice fast growing ladies. Can't wait to smoke these girls!
I added about a gallon of water with nutes to each plant mid week.
Changed the buckets this Sunday, following the week 5 nute schedule from growweedeasy.com. Happy so far!
What a sad sad day for one of these Hubba Bubbas. I got root rot, as you can tell from the image of one of the root balls. I think I've had full lockout on this girl, and at this point I just hope she pushes some trichomes out before she dies on me. I found the root rot on Wednesday, and have been fighting it ever since.
Root Rot Protocol:
Rinsed roots in fresh water.
Left two days with no nutes, just hydroguard.
Changed to regular nute water last two days.
Fully defoliated all damaged fan leaves.
Check water twice per day and change bucket fully each time if smelly or foamy at all.
HubbaBubba #1 is looking great, lots of leaves, and she got a full haircut this week, too. I need less heat and humidity in the tent, and I find removing all the fan leaves once they are fully in flower helps get some airflow and light to all the bud sites. Additionally, I lollypopped the lower portions as well. Unfortunately, last night I noticed a film and foam on the roots, so I changed the water. Hopefully I am not going to get root rot on this baby as well.
Woo Hoo!!! My hubbabubba girl with the root rot has survived and is looking great! I'm so proud of her growth. The new leaves, flowers, and roots are super happy. I fully changed her water a couple times this week, and I added an extra air stone to the buckets to make sure they are getting plenty of oxygen. Definitely in full flower mode and are smelling lovely! I can't wait to see how fat these buds get in a couple weeks.
I can't believe these babies are only 8 weeks old. They are full of buds and stacking. The smell is fantastic, and I'm getting a bit of a White Widow smell from them, but maybe because I just harvested some of those recently. The buds look really dense and fat, so hopefully they continue to ripen. The trichomes look so good, and I'm sticky every time I move this baby around. They are drinking a ton right now, I have changed the water a couple times this week.
These girls are getting some super fat buds! I'm very happy with how they are growing so far. The only bad news is that I got some little black worms in my roots. NOT HAPPY. After doing some research, I found out they are drain fly larvae and these mosquito dunks are supposed to kill them, so I put about an eighth of a tablet into each bucket this week. So far no problems on the plants but it's only been a day. I think these girls are ripening and will be ready for harvest in a couple of weeks!!
I gave these two ladies their final cuts before harvest, as some of the trichomes are already turning amber! I can't wait to smoke her, as she is smelling delicious. I will be harvesting this week, so after I did this final defoliation I put them on their flush regimen to ripen them further. This is plain well water that has sat out for about a day to degas with a teaspoon of hydroguard. I'll be trimming all week since I have these two and two others finishing at the same time, but I can't wait to see what kind of weight and quality smoke we are going to be getting for these two beauties.
Trimming a pound by myself was a lot, but worth it. These are the best buds I've grown yet, and they were ready in only 10 weeks. I will be ordering more seeds from Mephisto as soon as I finish off what I have in storage. The flowers are dense and beautiful, covering in trichomes, and smells like sweet fruit with a little funk to it. Sticky as shit. I've smoked a few joints and she is smooth, sweet, with a hint of mint or pine on the back end so far, but she is just a few days in the cure bag so I'll do a full smoke review when I feel she is ready.
