First seed showed no signs of change after 3 days, so I added two more seeds to hedge my bets. Based on this article, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7952943/ , I spritzed them with a dilute H2O2 solution I had handy for gnats. The next day, one of the seeds, and I'm fairly sure it was one of the new ones, had sprouted. After another day the sprout was at least 2cm, so I planted it in a 5gal bag already prepared with 55g of GrowDots distributed throughout, mycorrhizae, turbinado sugar for the mycorrhizae, nematodes, and some CalMag.
I swapped to a new paper towel and wet it entirely with the H2O2 solution to see if the other seeds ever sprout.
23-Sep
The planted seed has already popped up. There's a bit of a race to see if I can finish the Blueberry in the tent before this one needs to go in. I'll also have to figure out a plan for drying. I would have dried in the tent, but I won't have time. The unsprouted seeds are still unsprouted. I think I'm currently at 3/7 successfully germinated from that batch of seeds. Fortunately, I think it was a buy 10, get 10 free sale, so I'm not too bothered by it.
After about a week, 'lil sprout has shot up to about 4.5" tall, but has not grown out the leaves much. She's still drinking filtered tap water, so I hope that the medium doesn't turn into limestone. Fortunately, she still fits under a large plastic cup because the Blewitberry is still hogging the grow tent, doing whatever it's doing. Added some more mycorhize and sugar and did another 1L top water to get it soaked in.
Baby widow is still living in my room while the Blewitberry dries. Tomorrow (9-Oct) will be one week drying in the tent. No plans to add anything but filtered tap water this week. Hopefully, I have good colonies of beneficial critters established in the soil helping the plant absorb those Dots. The first pair of fan leaves had me a little nervous. They were pretty crooked, almost in the shape of half a swastika. Is my girl a hater? Is she just not right? As you can see, the rest of the leaves have been fine, but you can still see a bit of the kink in the 8 Oct pic on the leaf in the foreground.
I finally moved Lil' WW into the tent yesterday, after spraying down the interior with a peroxide solution, just in case there was some funk left over from Blewitberry's cursed grow. She looks none the worse for rooming with me until now. She's been under the spare 100W full spectrum grow light.
Not planning to add any nutes this week, just filtered tap water and maybe some distilled. I also plan to not do any stress training. I want one good basic grow under my belt before I start actively annoying my plants.
I'm a little annoyed with my controller setup. Toward the end of the Blewitberry grow, I got it really dialed in so that it sat pretty steadily at my target 1.20 kPa for flower, with the exhaust fan and humidifier barely running. This time both are running more, and the kPa is staying up in the 1.4 to 1.6 range most of the time. Comparing the automations, I can't figure out what is different now. Also on the ACI gear front, I got a set of Ionbeam S16 light bars. I think I'll install them vertically on each of the main corner tent poles.
17-Oct
Some combination of fiddling with settings and a big cold front dropping outside temps by 30 degrees F has stabilized things a bit, but I am going through about 3L of water per day in the humidifier.
We're off to another great start, but there's lots of time for me to screw it up still. She's a beautiful, dense little plant so far. If she doesn't stretch quite a bit, I might have to trim some leaves later on, despite the under-canopy lighting. It's just too dense to penetrate at this point. I'm still planning to try for one good, clean grow from start to finish before trying to introduce LST, lollipopping, or any other substantial shaping technique. Hopefully, there will be little more than refilling the humidifier bucket every day and adding 1 or 2L of water to the plant base. I'm still mostly watering with filtered tap water, but I throw in a day of distilled occasionally because I'm not sure how much of what might be building up from that tap water.
I removed one small, yellowing leaf down near the soil. Otherwise, I'm mostly trying to leave her the hell alone. She seems very happy.
30-Oct
She stalled at 25" for a day or so, but she's up to about 27" today. Removed one more yellowing fan leaf from the bottom. Also of note, there are lots of tiny root tips sticking out of the bag all over, so I think I did get a better start on the root system this time.
Still keeping it simple. Just adding filtered tap water and relying on the Grow Dots and soil critters. I do see small bits of brown on some of my leaf tips. I'll have to keep an eye on it to make sure it's not the beginning of a problem.
