From day 9 on the plant leaves started to look odd. Measurement of the ppfd showed a way to high value of 550. So I adjusted the light height from 30cm to 50cm, resulting in a ppfd value of 350-400 (this is probably still too high). Obviously I made the mistake of adding to much light to the poor plant 😕
Putting the lamp higher to 45 cm in week 2 improved the overall condition of the plant. Reduced the lamp height to 40cm in week 3 resulting in a PPFD value of 420 and a DLI of 31.
Day 18.Measured conductivity of the drain water and found that it is pretty high with 2,8 mS/cm. Have to flush out the nutrients with a target EC value of 1,3 to 1,5 mS/cm now.
Increased the lamp power to 60% resulting in a higher PPFD of (520)
Started week four with slight LST. No defoliation yet, maybe later in flowering stage. Increased lighting to 80% @ 120 watts (PPFD 620). PH is a bit high (probably because of prior flushing).
Unfortunately I have overwatered the plant. This lead to dark and yellow spots on some leaves. According to some sources this could be calcium deficiency. I reduced watering to a minimum by waiting till the top layer of the substrate was dry. This took four days.
I also realized that the plant got too much light. So I changed the distance of the light to the canopy to 55 cm resulting in a DLI of approximately 40.
Hope the plant will recover. To support recovery I added some CaMg nutrition to the water.
Growth is fine with ca. 1-2cm/day.
Temperatures and humidity have dropped due to cold weather resulting in underwatering of the plant. Fixed it by increasing water amount to 1 litre per day.
The plant has reached a height of 32cm. Growing speed has slowed down a bit. I did defoliation on the bottom and inner leaves to improve air flow.
Since this is my first grow and I don’t have any experience, I am really curious how this is going to turn out.
Plant is doing well. It is not growing anymore and reached its peak height at 33cm. I removed a lot of leaves to improve air flow. Close up pictures are showing a nice dark purple color on the sugar leaves. Obviously the production of anthocyanins is working well. Next week I am going to try to increase the colors by depriving the plant of nitrogen.
Last week I have started to deprive the plant of nitrogen by replacing the 18-8-18 fertilizer with monopotassium phosphate. After seven days the bottom leaves started yellowing. The leaves are taking purple color, but not as pronounced as I hoped for. Also the trichomes are not catching color at all. Approximately 50% of the trichomes are milky now. Only a few amber ones are there.
Harvest is close
Final week. Approximately 80% of the trichomes are completely or partly milky. The rest is clear. Amber ones are almost not present ( I think less than one percent). Internet search revealed that a lot of auto-flowering plants do not produce (or almost no) amber trichomes.
What I am really happy about is, that the plant produced a very nice purple color on some leaves. Most likely this is a result of the low night temperatures (around 13°C).
The last two weeks I have deprived the plant of nitrogen, by replacing the 18-8-18 nutrient with 0-52-34 monopotassium phosphate. At the end of the second week the lower leaves started yellowing, indicating a nitrogen deficiency. In the next run I am going to try to extend the nitrogen deprivation to three weeks, so the plant has more time to produce low nitrogen metabolites.
Merry Christmas by the way 🎄🎁🌠😉
Wet trimmed and harvested the plant on Day 76. After drying in the grow tent for 6 days it was ready for dry trimming. Through growing CJ I have learned a lot, and I am almost a bit sad that it is over now. 😉
Currently the buds are being cured in a glass jar.
