It all started in April with germinatin the seeds in a shot glass of water for a day, then putting them in last years potting soil.
Only the Daiquiri Lime is from seed, everthing else is clones from austria.
During this 6 weeks phase of raising the plants behind my livigroom door very DIYish I made a mistake by not checking the soils pH. At this point the soil is newly bought cheap potting soil from the closest supermarket (Penny). It contained fungus gnats and also had a pH 8.2 which lead to early flower of the Tropical Tangie and a shock for all the others resulting in weeks of no growth and visible signs of degeneration.
16.05.24 After managing the pH in the soil by adding the same amount of coco choir and a little bit of compost to the mix, the plants regained vitality and continued their lifecycle normaly again. From this point on the water was adjusted to pH 6.6-6.9
Tropical Tangie was harvested on 16.07.24 and yielded 6.2g taste was nice & fruity, High was uplifting. After this mini harvest I took out the Papaya Punch that was in the same pot with the Tangie and the Zombie Kush. Papaya Punch went to a friends garden. Zombie Kush now by itself in 10 gallon soil like all others except the "Autos" (5 gallon) which show no signs of flower jet. Grennhouse Feeding Bio grow was added at 3 grams per Liter soil.
23.07.24 Tropical Tangie Mini harvest is ready to enjoy and put in a jar with a boveda. Fungus Gnats were brought to an end with SF Nematodes.
Each plant has a 3D printed irrigation ring (growtek usa file) that I altered for this setup. below the Ikea tables I have a 60l watertank (mörtelwanne) with a 20€ submersive water pump pluged into a digital timer. each plant is watered 300ml per minute which at this point is given daily. On hot days it's 2min /600ml /day ph adjusted to 6.8
29.07.24 plant from left to right "Auto" Daquiri Lime 1, Zombie Kush, Cheese, Gelato#45, Lost Coast OG, "Auto" Daquiri Lime 2
at this point I contaced Dutch Passion to do a little Karen and get free Auto Seeds for next season to see if they behave like Autos. The plan for 2024 was to have some autos for a mid season harvest and then more room for the regular plants on the balcony. Unfortunately all three Daiquiri Lime turned out like Photos. The third one in my friends garden (in the ground) also finished end Oktober.
15.08.24 after returning from two weeks in lovely france for summer holidays the soil was a little overwatered but back to ok after two days of not watering. I set the pump to a little more than needed which was a safer bet during these very hot day. By the way this balcony recieves direct sunlight only until 2pm so about 50% of daily sunlight.
yellow leaves were taken off, a bag of Neoseiulus californicus was ordered and put to work on the bugs I noticed. Problem solved. Green House Feeding Bloom was mixed with a little soil and given as top dressing at 3g per liter soil. I also threw in the tiny leftover of vegi nutrient that was left. at this point I started to ad 1g of bio enhancer per Liter of water every other monday when hand watering.
26.08.24 All plants now start to show early flower traits. before that I noticed growth switched from simply upwards to branching out and growth at internodes.
04.09.24 flower continues normaly, wheather is fine. Dutch passion gifted me a pack of Auto Skywalker Haze and Auto Lemon Kix.
The smell is still barley noticable at this point
22.09.24 had a little foto-shoot with the wife and plants since the weather was that brilliant.
Zombie Kush showing red & purple leave, furthests stage of flowering. Daiquiri Lime dropping many leaves. Gelato#45 beeing the slowest to mature for sure.
14. & 16.10.24 last days before harvest of the Daiquiris and the Zombie Kush. A friend gave me a microscope to check trichomes. Sorry i can't take pictures with that thing but I highly recommend such devices to not harvest to early. As a result on 17.10.24 the season is over for 3 of them.
22.10.24 at the end of the week I'll check trichomes again and harvest if ripe enough on friday night. Buds are not bulking anymore but trichome heads were still to clear, not milky enough last Wednesday, no amber at all.
I had only two tiny cases of botrytis this season where everybody was complaining about the weather in germany. One on a Daiquiri Lime branch that grew outside the rain protected space and the other the Tropical Tangie wich was shaded by the bigger plants in the same pot. So far I had my issues in this first year of legally growing, but in the end everything worked out fine (fingers crossed). Even the non-auto Daiquiris produced good results. I had a single plant on this balcony in 2021 when it was still not legal an therefore wish you all favorable changes to the law in your countries. The peace of mind when growing magnificent plants legally is the single biggest increase in quality of life I can remember.
17.10.24 Harvest day. Since many fan leaves already came of in the past month, trimming was no big deal. the plants had really beautiful colors on the leaves and the smell was really strong when I put them inside for trimming.
01.11.24 the dried flower was tested at 19% THC with purpl pro at a community event in Munich
17.10.24 Zombie Kush harvest. No issues with mold or pests on this plant. Beautiful colors during flower. Came a a clone from Austria sold as 'purple pheno' by Krumme Gurken.
01.11.24 The flower was tested at 18% THC with a purpl pro at a community event in Munich
22.10.24 A week after the first harvest hours of direct sunlight are declining and temperatures stay around 15*C. After using a friend's analog pocket microscope 50-100x to determine trichome ripeness I bought a 200x macro lens for my smartphone (30€) at a local weed store. Looking at the harvested buds with the new device made me aware that I probably could have waited another week for the perfect harvest. That's judging based on the trichomes. Testing the bud in the vaporizer I can assure you that the flavour is very nice and the flower is definitely potent. Having pictures and even video of the trichomes is really worth buying this smartphone add on, at least the one I got after a convincing presentation with actually bud at the shop. Trichomes at 200x are an amazing look.
28.10.24 In order to enhance the final ripening of the trichomes I put the plants inside to at least enjoy 22*C temperature given I have no lights to hang above. A final haircut for fan leaves and everything that turned yellowish was done to prevent and easily spot mold.
Please feel free to comment on the stage of the Trichomes I am really curious on opinions now that I can share pictures of them.
02.11.24 This cheese plant was the first to stop maturing and starting to show signs of decay even before trichomes turned amber in higher numbers. I notice two tops vlwere starting to dry on the plant. Not sure if this is a fungus but don't want to risk it at this point. Put the suspicious buds away from the rest. Almost all non sugar leaves are already gone before chopping. Very low effort with trimming since very few leaves left.
After drying and outdoors temperatures dropping close to zero degrees celsius the material was processed to dry sift. Sifting was done with bubble bag screens in multiple bottomless buckets and a vibrator to agitate the material indirectly through the bucket walls. Drysift flavor is now much more clearer and cheesy.
02.11.24 to end the day I chopped this Gelato 45. It was clear from mid September that this would be the last to finish and I was not sure if it would finish in the local climate. Putting it inside for the last few days definitely was the right choice but it also awakened some bugs in the soil plus I spotted the first dry tops (fungus?) on the living plant which I put away from the rest of the flowers. This was the worst to trim with much more fan leaves still on the plant and many popcorn nugs on the lower branches. Next year I definitely cut that away at the end of veg.
