02-19-2019 - the White widow is starting to get bigger. Did some LST - check the images for the before and 3 hours later photos. nice and healthy. The northern lights is catching up - what a healthy plant!

Alright - I need to know, is it time to harvest or close to? I have some photos in my diary that show some dark amber trichomes, a fair bit I'd say.

Hey B so i notice with my plants i see ambers pop up on my sugar leaves much sooner than my budsites. When the resin glands develop those bulbous tops like in your 1st photo that's a good sign harvest is near. If you're seeing mostly all with round tops and they have a milky color you're good to harvest any time now. It's really just preference. Ed Rosenthal says anything past bulbous and clear you're losing thc...i don't see it that way because i like a little thc degradation from the milky/ambers it gives a little less risk of panicky weed. Another good sign to watch for is the pistils swelling and then discoloring and curling in, i think if you have like 60% changing along with the trichrome change you're ready to chop. Have fun with the trimming ✌️

Thanks for passing on your knowledge. I have purchased a viparspectra 600w (270w actual draw). I will see where that gets me with this grow. here's to hoping the northern lights does get going :) have a good one.

SCROG stands for Screen of Green. So, by topping twice and using LST to spread the branches out, when you install the trellis, the bushy plant can grow and fill up the screen. This allows all of the smaller secondary branches to grow up and become full colas. You will have MANY more bus sites because you are filling every square inch of the trellis with plant material. Check out my recent diaries for a look at what I mean. I also have a timelapse video of the veg cycle in the last week of veg for most diaries.

Good luck on your first grow! I have to agree about the grow light, you will need a little more juice for a tent that size, maybe just an extra one so both plants have enough coverage? Don't get me wrong that light will do just fine for the first 3-4 weeks but when the plants go through there stretch phase they will also widen, meaning the light intensity will be less on the bud sites at the sides. I love LEDs because they are so efficient but ive recently switched to HPS for flowering, coverage was my only let down with LED, and lights that could cover the space needed were $$$$ 😯😶 but if your on a budget then stick with the one, you will still get a nice yield from it and your first grow is all about learning and making mistakes (at least it was for me), then once you've done your first grow its up to you if you want to invest more into it 😌 stay lit! P.S northern light might be a bit slow germinating, I plant them regardless and they normally pop up after a couple of days, try using the water cup method next time, it's never failed me 😄

Looking good! I highly recommend looking into a SCROG setup for your next run in that tent. You will be able to maximize your yield for the space you have available. I’m in a 3x3 tent and have been able to yield 8.5oz off one of the two plants in the tent, also using LED!

Yeah, I'm gonna go with a scrog for the next grow. sounds like the logical next step.

@brutal_bub, you thread the shoots through it thereby breaking the natural apex dominance , causing more growth in the side branches and increasing the yield overall through more flower nodes - not to mention much easier canopy control

@gdogfunk, Geez, that sounds awesome. A scrog is something I want to implement for my second grow for sure, it's simple enough, does it simply allow for the colas to seperate more from the fan leaves or is the other purposes?

those spots are calcium deficiency from the flower stretch, just add a bit of calmag if you can... anyway great work for a first grow, mine did not go this well at all lol 👊
brutal_bub
brutal_bubcommented6 years ago
Thanks for the kind words Bulbi, I will see about getting some calmag to fix that up.

@The_Projexx,thanks man! This does get pretty exciting, the bud sites are really starting to protrude from the rest of the cannopy now. Wild.

Looks like you are having the same luck with your Northern Lights seeds that I am having with my Gorilla Glue seeds. I will be following your progress. Good Luck! 😃

I'm sorry to tell you but you're gonna need a lot more light for two plants and that space. That LED is 300w which means it's actually about 135w real draw. You would need 4 of those. If you want to stay with blurples, you can get a 1200w one, which will be about 550 actual watt. I would recommend either getting 500w QB LEDs from alibaba.com or get a 600w HPS.

Thanks, yeah the widow is now above the surface! If the NL seed is alright I should see it in a few days. Here's hoping! Thanks for the interest, it's a fun hobby already.

Thank you for your input. For a tent that is 2x4x5 I would need four lights of equal power to successfully grow two plants? Is that calculation done based on cubic feet in the tent, or temperature demands, or soemthing else? Admittedly I am a noob when it comes to this, but what I did was check the reviews/questions on amazon and there were plenty of people with a very similar setup to mine that stated their grows went well. I also read up on requirements for my size of tent and most of what I read stated about I know most recommend quantum board kits but I just can't throw that much more at my setup. In your opinion, would a second light at 135 actual draw be enough to get by?
