Day 17 since soaking the seeds and things are looking much better at this point as compared to my first grow. I introduced a very small dose of nutes (~325ppm) as I enter week 3. The humidity has been very dry as we're in the middle of winter, but all other conditions look good. The pH was a bit on the high side, but I didn't want to add any pH down directly to the basin midweek. Roots are growing fast and look very healthy. I want to give them a little more time before starting some LST. Fun seeing such fast growth!
This is my second grow using the same basin for two plants, and maybe it's just a coincidence, but one plant seems to do better than the other. When their roots mingle, can one steal nutrients from the other? Should the nutrient levels be higher for two plants?
You have 2 cannabis strains , you will have 2 way to grow and 2 way to absorb feeding. When you'r working with 2 strain in the sme bucket it happening frequently , take a look at @Tazard grows and you will see that each time he is growing 2 strain in the same bucket he have issue with one of them. The Ec level tolerance , the better ph and many others aspects will be different
Hey there! This is cool! Nice micro DWC setup, I wonder what yield you can achieve in there, should be great fun finding out 😄 Oh and nice strain choice... back to the 90's
All the best with this grow, I have my eyes peeled
Regards Bigface
@Bigface, I like these ideas! However, my container options are extremely limited. Hard to find containers that are durable and have dimensions that I need. Also, anything outside the box would compromise my stealth! I'm always thinking of ways to improve. Maybe I could squeeze a small shelf above the light inside?
@bmvape, if you fancy a wee upgrade, and funds allow... in my opinion the best two things you could do to benefit this grow and make your life much easier would be...
1) attach a flexitank or similar 'tank', to you reservoir, using a float valve($6), keeping the tank above the reservoir, this will allow your reservoir to automatically top itself up from the larger 'reserve' reservoir. The flexitank would be obviously outside the tiny grow space and be easier to keep cool :-). Your fluctuations will be much more in check.. and saves you worrying about having to manually top the res up daily, if not twice a day come full flower mode! ;-)
2) buy a cheap ro water system($60/£45) to make your own reverse osmosis water.. which will allow you to put more of the good stuff in your DWC as the base EC of spring water is like 0.2. Plus you can acheive a great flush using r.o water, and you'll simply have an easier time of things and get great results.. assuming that all important environment stays in check! ;-)
Smash it mate!
@bmvape, I checked your last run out.. I get the feeling you will smash that one out the park mate! Now you know how to keep Ph in check, ensuring you put notes in 1st, THEN ph down(usually) to the sweet spot of 5.7-5.8! Don't over do then nutrients start at 0.3EC and work up each week or so. Try to top up the res daily back to it original level, this will help keep fluctuations in check, as your res is so tiny, fluctuations in temp, ph and etc can be dramatic rather quickly
Anyway who are you hiding from? The parents, flat mates, or the law? Sod them all, telling you, an adult you can't consume fine herbal products that you cultivated yourself with love, at no harm to anyone else.. shame on them :-) keep up the good work brother. I have to be stealth to, just on a larger scale, gotta give them boys in blue something to do ;-) bloody good luck to them though muaaah aaah ahah haha ha 🤠
I am on day 27 on my first auto grow and I am at 500 ppm since day 21. Will be bumping up to 550+ in 2 days. I am using gh maxi nutrients also. I don't think overfeeding is your problem. Just from your pics I would suspect either heat is the issue or lack of oxygen to the roots. I would also switch to RO water so you know exactly what you are putting in your reservoir. Best of luck with the rest of your grow!
@bmvape, I use a 4 stage filter that was about $50 on ebay. It gives me 10 to 15 ppm water. There is no need for one of the more expensive ones just fyi
@Wicked_Stix, thanks for the input! I think I can rule out heat as the temps have been consistent through this and my prior grow. You might be right about the oxygen though. My airstone did shift and was only half in the water for a few hours. I may make the investment at some point to RO water. Maybe when my grows don't need to be stealthy and I can have a bigger grow space! Good luck with your grow, I'll be watching!
Despite the problems you had during your veg stage ( leaf curling and discolouration ) etc.....
You have managed to grow some nice big buds. With lots of shine. 💪🏽🤩👍🏼.
My next grow about to start is Northern Lights auto from Nirvana seed bank. So I shall be keeping an eye on your outcome. 👍🏻
@Puffer_Bill, the veg stage has been tricky for me on both grows, but I can't complain about how things are looking. I wish I would have just grown two Northern Lights, with how the LST worked out. It would have looked like a mini corn field of buds in the whole cabinet. I'll be watching your next grow! Thanks for checking out mine 👊
@growdoctordc, Thank you very much my friend 😁✌️ I always try to answers what seems most logical to me ! Being a former cannabis forum Ryder is helping a lot to make a link between a grower question and another grower who have the same issue 😁
If you train those two plant early as possible keep them spread wide and low, by bending the leading top and tying her down lower than the other branches, to give them all a chance to become 'tops'
I appreciate you may not want to top them as they are Autoflower, and may detriment yield as they don't have the time to bounce back from topping and hard training before they want to start putting out flowers. So yeah best if you can manipulate them softly so as to spread the canopy and fill your space out before they shoot up vertical!
Although I'd recommend trimming away the very lower budsites and leaves, to allow that bit more energy to be used on the top buds.
Then a light defoliation, around a week into budsites appearing, just to allow better light to mid/lower buds!
Follow these tips and hopefully you'll be in for a big surprise, when you get the digital scales out in a few weeks ;-)
All the best Bigface
@Bigface, I should be able to start LST this week. I still get nervous about trimming! I don't want to chop off something that could be valuable. Maybe once I get to that point you could recommend what to chop!
Another huge improvement could be made relatively cheaply, by placing a mister/fogger in the cabinet, in order to up the relative-humidity, during this seedling early veg stage especially. If you can aim for around 23-24c air temp @60-70 % humidity.. you'll be right in the sweet spot on the Vapour Pressure Defecit chart, and will see a boost in grow rates for sure ;-)
@Bigface, I have a humidifier that I can place right outside the intake fan on the outside. Now that the plants have decent size leaves, I may have to turn that on. Its been so dry here!
The White widow is looking great!! Hopfully the NL will come around👍 If you have any other ? let me know an I will see if i can be of service lol Good luck Happy Growing!😎
