SamDo Grow Journal - Hydroponic Week Update
This week, I transplanted a Jack Herer genetic clone from a mother plant into a hydroponic system. After topping the plant and trimming the roots to match its reduced size, it was placed into its new setup. However, my first nutrient mix went bad: the combination of Terra Aquatica (Grow & Bloom), Voodoo Juice, Canazym, Aptus Regulator, and B52 turned cloudy, forcing me to start over.
I switched to a simplified base using only Terra Aquatica’s DualPart Grow and DualPart Bloom, with a small addition of Calmag. The plant is showing signs of stress but I’m hopeful it will recover in the coming days. For parameters, I’m keeping the pH between 5.5 and 5.8. As for the EC, I don’t monitor it because my tap water is very hard, starting at 0.8 EC. Stay tuned for its progress!

SamDo Week 2 - Vegetative Growth
This week, I’m pleased with how my plant is progressing. After the transplant, which involved trimming and equalizing the roots as well as topping, it has bounced back nicely. The root mass has redeveloped well, which is encouraging. There were some minor signs of stress, as expected, but the plant is recovering properly.
I performed a light defoliation to improve airflow and encourage the growth of secondary branches. I also adjusted the nutrients slightly to support the vigorous regrowth of the root system.
For now, I don’t plan on extending the vegetative stage for too long. The goal is to let the plant gain a bit more strength and develop a few additional secondary branches before moving on to the next stage. We’ll continue to monitor its progress steadily, but so far, the results are promising.

SamDo Grow Diary - Week 3 of Veg
The plant has regained its vigor this week, developing a strong root mass, which is great. It keeps growing, and I’m trying to keep it as low as possible using Low Stress Training techniques. I’ve been trying pinching, which involves lightly pinching the tips of the branches to bend them. This redirects the growth hormones to the lower parts, maximizing the development of new shoots.
I’ve also done a bit of light defoliation by removing some large, unnecessary leaves. Other than that, I’m mainly monitoring the pH. I’m trying to keep it as close to 5.8 as possible, but the buffers in the Terra Aquatica products keep raising it to 6.2. I’m wondering if this slightly higher pH might be causing some discoloration on the leaves—it feels like a deficiency, even though all the necessary nutrients are present. I’m cautious about adding too much acid to avoid overloading the nutrient solution.
Overall, the plant is healthy and continues to grow well. I’m thinking about switching to flowering in a week or two at most. Since this is a Jack Herer strain, which tends to stretch a lot during flowering, I want to keep it in veg a bit longer while working with Low Stress Training and defoliation. We’ll see how it evolves next week!

SamDo Cultivation Journal – Week 4 of Vegetative Growth (End)
I’m really not satisfied with the plant; it seems weak and lacks vitality. Its development is quite slow, and I suspect the nighttime temperatures might be dropping too low. However, even the mother plant of this strain doesn’t show great growth, so I’m thinking the phenotype might not be very good.
To avoid wasting more time, I’ve decided to switch it to flowering today, setting the light cycle to 12-12. I also replaced the nutrient solution, preparing 20 liters with the ingredients required for flowering. Knowing this strain stretches a lot, I applied LST (Low Stress Training) to bend the tops. Unfortunately, I broke one of the four apexes, so now there are only three left.
Even though I’m not happy with this plant or the mother plant, I’ll finish this grow and move on to another strain afterward.

SamDo Grow Journal – Week 5: Pre-Flowering
Summary: First week of flowering, marked by disappointment. The plant remains weak and underdeveloped. This seems to be largely due to poor environmental control.
Identified Issues:
• Low nighttime temperatures: Dropping to 10-11°C, significantly slowing the plant’s metabolism.
• Excessive day/night temperature gap: 27°C during the day versus about 11°C at night, creating a difference of more than 15°C and stressing the plant.
• Insufficient humidity: Daytime humidity drops below 50% due to a broken humidifier.
Actions Taken:
1. Installed supplemental heating:
• Added a small tube heater in the grow tent.
• Set to maintain a minimum nighttime temperature of 18°C.
• Goal: Keep the day/night temperature difference below 10°C.
2. Temporary humidity improvement:
• Placed wet t-shirts inside the tent to increase humidity.
• Limitation: Wet clothes dry out quickly, requiring regular monitoring.

SamDo Update: I finally decided to stop the grow. The plant hasn't shown any signs of stretch. I'd rather stop here than spend energy and money on a plant that won't produce anything interesting anyway. It's part of the game; we learn by making mistakes, and the next grow will be better.
Grow Diary - Week 6 of Flowering
Week 6: It’s smelling like the end…
Well, we’re at the sixth week of flowering, and clearly, it’s not going as planned. The plant has hardly stretched; it seems completely stuck. No visible progress, still just as weak, despite adding heating to stabilize the temperatures.
Humidity is still a problem: I can’t seem to raise it, and that’s clearly not helping. But honestly, even adjusting a few parameters, nothing is changing. It feels like a failure, I have to admit.
I think I’m going to have to stop this grow. Clearly, using electricity and wasting nutrients on a plant that isn’t producing anything doesn’t make much sense. I’m pretty disappointed, but hey, that’s part of the game.
I know I haven’t been on top of managing the environment, especially when it was important. It’s a shame, but that’s how it goes. Maybe I’ll give it one more week to see if a miracle happens, but I don’t really believe it. Oh well, you live and you learn, and we’ll do better next time!
