Zamnesia Slurricane Automatic [Purple Punch x Do-Si-Dos x Ruderalis]
I was quite impressed with the performance of Zamnesia Seeds in my last two grows. They seem to have excellent genetics and are relatively easy to grow. The harvests were consistently good, and the plants always surprised me in a positive way. Because of this, I decided to try a new strain they released this month. The strain is called Slurricane, a cross between two highly popular strains: Purple Punch and Do-Si-Dos. Being an autoflower, it also contains some Ruderalis genetics.
I’m hoping for a hint of purple before harvest, that would be really cool!
The soil is composed of:
20% Pumice: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0CQM61X8S/
About 10% of activated Biochar/Charcoal: https://www.amazon.de/DIMIKRO-Pflanzenkohle-fein-gemahlen-Liter/dp/B07PNPQSXR
20% Worm Castings: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07SQDRXGC
50% of soil (Torffreie Kräuter und Aussaaterde): https://www.raiffeisenmarkt.de/gaertnerglueck-torffreie-kraeuter-und-aussaaterde-p-73816145
Additionally, I mixed in Green House Feeding BioGrow at a rate of 2.5 g/L and Organic Nutrients CalMag Alga at 3.5 g/L.
Around day 10, I’ll stop hand-watering and switch to using the Blumat drip irrigation system.
01/01/25 Short facts:
- Watered in about 1,25l
- 5cm high
- Light is @60% but in a distance of 70cm - 310 ppfd
- 2 real leavepairs are already developed
- humitidy dome removed
- VPD @ 0.8
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry that the pictures are from day 8.
As you can see, she’s growing. She looks pretty good, though I think she might turn out to be on the shorter side. But there’s still plenty of time to veg and bulk up. 😁
At the moment, nothing particularly special has happened. I’ve already installed the Blumat drip irrigation system, which is working quite well. I had no issues adjusting it. As you can see, I’m using two sensors without any additional drippers. Right now, I’m just testing this setup—starting with only the sensors/carrots, as opposed to adding three extra drippers per sensor, like I did with the Lemon Cherry Cookies grow.
I’ll probably turn off the sensors overnight so I can hand-water some fertilizers tomorrow.
I hope she grows a bit more so I can start LST in the coming week.
01/08/25 Short facts:
- 8,5cm high
- Light is @80% but in a distance of 75cm - 360 ppfd
- 4 sidebranches developed
- Blumat drip irrigation active
- VPD @ 0.8
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since this week, she has been automatically watered through the Blumat drip irrigation system. However, once a week, she is hand-watered, and during this feeding, I add all the fertilizers listed above. I try to estimate how much water she consumes throughout the week and adjust the fertilizer amount accordingly.
Other than that, she’s doing okay. She could be taller and have a couple more side branches, but there’s still plenty of time for her to grow. I’ve started tucking some leaves to better expose the side branches to light, and I planted some clover seeds. That’s all that happened this week.
01/15/25 Short facts:
- 13cm high
- Light is @80% but in a distance of 75cm - 360 ppfd
- VPD @ 0.8
- doing some LST
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There’s not much happening; she’s staying quite small compared to the other two plants in the grow tent.
I bent her to the left to expose the side branches to more light, but she’s so compact that it hasn’t had much effect.
I’ve scheduled some time today to try defoliating her, hoping that more light will reach the branches.
Right now, I’m not very impressed with her. After the strong development of the Wurlz F1 and the Grease Monkey, I had higher hopes.
01/22/25 Short facts:
- 23cm high
- Light is @80% but in a distance of 68cm - 360 ppfd
- VPD @ 0.9
- had to do a lot more LST
- had to defoliate the plant
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This week, there was finally a bit of growth, giving me the opportunity to do some LST in the hope of achieving at least a moderate yield. I also had to defoliate quite a lot, as there are finally some more tiny branches that will hopefully continue to grow.
As you can see in the pictures, the top of the plant is still extremely compact, leaving no room to do anything for now.
During defoliation, I noticed many leaves with strange shapes, which made me wonder if there might be an issue with the plant's DNA. Right now, this is the smallest plant I’ve ever had. Keep in mind, she’s growing in the exact same soil mix as 1:Walt and has access to the same nutrients. The only difference is that her temperature was consistently 1–2°C colder than 1:Walt’s, but that shouldn’t cause such a noticeable difference.
I’m hopeful that she’ll stay in the vegetative stage a little longer, but I can already see signs of preflowering. Maybe she’ll catch up in the next couple of weeks?
01/29/25 Short facts:
- 43cm high
- Light is @80% but in a distance of 48cm - 650 ppfd
- VPD @ 1.0 - but haven't got it higher than 0.9
- had to defoliate the plant
- No Root juice anymore
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She is in flower and did stretch quite a lot, but mostly in two side branches. Still not very happy with the growth, because of den mainbranch. The top is just overcrowded and just looking weird.
There are also some leaves, that just look a little bit weird. Maybe it is a mutation?
I have to apply the fertilizer for flowering in the next few days.
02/05/25 Short facts:
- 53cm high
- Light is @80% but in a distance of 48cm - 650 ppfd
- VPD @ 1.0 - but haven't got it higher than 0.9
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not much to report. She is still stretching and has grown a lot in the last seven days, but she is still quite compact.
02/05/25 Short facts:
- 56cm high
- Light is @80% but in a distance of 40cm - 650 ppfd
- VPD @ 1.0 - but haven't got it higher than 0.9
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There was a little bit of stretching, but I hope that’s it—at least for the tallest branches.
I had to defoliate her a little a few days ago, but as you can see, she has already regrown some leaves.
She also has a lot of flower sites, and the smell is really nice. I’d say she has a slightly sweet scent with a hint of fruit and a very floral note.
I'm not sure what stunted her growth in the beginning or why the main branch isn’t taller. Maybe I was too rough when I started binding her down? That’s probably it. Otherwise, I’m quite sure she would have performed better with more consistent growth.
I’ll definitely have to regrow her in autumn, just to see what happens when it’s a little warmer and how she develops without so much stress.
(Sidenote: I'm sure she has already come into contact with some of the pollen from the Lemon Cherry Cookies from Fast Buds. So maybe there’s going to be an interesting cross between these two.)
02/19/25 - Short Facts:
- VPD @ 1.2, but normally it doesn’t get better than 1.0
- Light @ 70%, decreased by 10%
- Bought a small heater, so the temperature is finally stable
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, I bought a heater because it got too cold this week. It was -10 degrees outside at night, which is quite cold, so my cellar became chilly. I set the heater to 23 degrees, and it’s keeping the room at a stable temperature. It actually doesn’t need to run that often. With this little device (Philips 3000 heater), everything is fine now. I was also able to lower the temperature of the heat mats inside the grow tent. Thanks to the heater, the temperature in the grow tent now stays between 22 and 25 degrees.
She didn’t get any taller this week—growth has finally stopped. But overall, I think she did quite well in the end.
The smell is really nice.
However, I don’t think the buds are looking that great—they seem a bit sad, don’t they?
One last thing: As you can see in my report called "Seed & Testrun Lemon Cherry Cookies," the Lemon Cherry Cookies from Fast Buds produced quite a lot of pollen. So I’m sure there will be quite a few seeds in the Slurricane that are a cross between these two. But that might actually be a good thing, because I think the automatics from Zamnesia are quite strong. They handle fertilizer very well and tend to stay leafy, green, and healthy.
