This week went well! The work I've put into my roots is paying off big time. My roots are exploding and so are my plants. I have the weeks incorrectly labelled as my first week I made some mistakes so were actually one week behind. This is week day 21 for the Dos-si-dos and day 16 for the Canuk cookies and Pure kush. I harvested my first crop last night and when I dumped out my old pots I confirmed what I had already believed was wrong. My roots were weak and very small. I didnt pay enough attention to humidity in my first grow vegetative stage, I didnt do transplants properly, I didnt use mychorizzae etc. This time around I have learned from my mistakes and am doing these things properly already resulting in MUCH larger and healthier root systems. I expect a much better yield because of this. Soon I will need to take clones from all of my plants, or at least two weeks before flower, so that i can keep a mother for some indoor grows and this summers outdoor. I haven't worked with clones but I've done countless hours of research so I hope that it pays off. I dont have a ton of space in the 4x4 tent so I can't let the plants get to big so I'm hoping I can balance this and I'm hoping I'll be able to manage the clones long enough in my 24x36x53 propagation tent to find out which will be my mother. I had some interesting mutations from the Dos-si-dos that I didnt see at all from the pure kush and Canuk cookies from Canuk. I haven't seen anything like these before so I really hope it's nothing to worry about and doesnt indicate inferiority in any way. Using my smaller humidifer in my veg tent and my large humidifer outside, I am able to maintain the humidity at 45-50% in my flower tent and 60-65 % and sometimes slightly higher in veg tent during winter months. My plants seem much happier with healthy amounts of humidity. I'm keeping steady airflow with my oscillating fan but I haven't turned on the exhaust fan quite yet, I'm thinking this weekend maybe

Grow Questions

What's your opinion on pruning off the 5th node and the top 4 out of 12 inches of growth? I have 2 plants growing too fast and I believe this would remedy it. I dont want to hurt them, but I dont need a super uneven canopy. Pruning just the top hasn't slowed it down enough

Nothing wrong with topping at the 5th node. Now with that said 4in. to take of most likey will add some stress it is doable tho especially when they are healthy like your plants look. I have done it before with mixed results some plants had no problem some got stressed but made it fine. You can always take like the top 2in off and do some HST or LST to keep the canopy even just be careful to not snap anything. or you could just try the LST or HST a not top. A lot of it is personal preference. like for example I prefer to do LST or HST instead of keep topping. Once have already topped a plant once or twice i usually don't like to top more than twice. so that's why I prefer to do bending an what not after the topping if i still need to control the canopy height or fill in spaces. another thing you can try to slow down the vertical growth is to give the top of the stem a little pinch not enough to damage the skin of the plant but just enough to where it squishes the stem a tiny bit and yes it can stress it out a lil but no more than topping if done right. the idea behind it is that once you do it the plant will focus on healing that spot instead of vertical growth and most of the time the stem grows back thicker/tougher than before. good luck!. Hope this helps and if you got any other ?'s just shoot me a message👍 Happy Growing HoffGuyy

What are some good preventative measures besides the obvious (being clean, no outside stuff inside etc) to keep pests at bay? I have yet to deal with bugs but I'd love to know a method of prevention that's close to fool proof. I dont want them :)

You can use Cannacure, its a nice product, to prevent pests and so on. It contains Neemoil too, and some benefical additives. Its very economic and easy to use ( they say even to a flowering plant. ) You can grow "company plants" like marigold, geanieum, basil ( all stinky stufff) Ihave been using nictotine tsolutions, neemoil solutions, plants..................................................https://www.growbarato.net/en/canna/118-cannacure-spray-1l-plant-protector.html#/capacity-spray_750ml

Anyways, had a bit of a rough go with my germination and seedlings this time. Thinking that I must have over watered. When I spoke to my local grow shop guy we narrowed it down to way to much moisture. The next time I use one I will use much less water and I will wipe out the dome everyday. Because of the moisture, I saw quite a few different issues arise. Really disappointing to lose some of those seeds but thank God I had some back ups and something like this doesnt happen twice. You remember... unless you dont learn Planning to try to put in pictures and info for this entire grow. I'm trying to locate a mother on this grow if they're nice and grow a crop of clones next. Hopefully one of the dos-si-dos will be the mom. I'm growing Canuk cookies, pure kush and bubba kush CBD as well that I'm not journaling.

@JRABTHEARAB, Thats a very good Price!!!, i always look for squared airpots. And the Airpots are much cheaper in europe... its a long way for them to canada^^

JRABTHEARABcommented6 years ago
@Mrs_Larimar, They're pretty cool right?! I got them at my local hydroponics shop. I'm from Ontario, Canada. I think they got them from a special supplier who just started making these cheaper versions of the air pot. They were only 4.95 each and then like 2.95 for the saucer and around the same for the risers. I love them so far, especially since I couldnt find the regular air pots for less then 50$ a piece. I'm interested to see how they'll work with my huge root systems this time.

can't believe you're going back to canuk after they sold you an auto instead of dos-si-dos lol

@JRABTHEARAB, meh, it's extra stress but at the end you'll get weed, and the flip will help with the taste and potency so it's "no harm done", not really... right?
JRABTHEARAB
JRABTHEARABcommented6 years ago
@CRiSPrGrow, the two first strains I grew out were so nice I just feel I've got to assume I got severely unlucky. If it is an autoflower then they are total idiots for having multiple seeds in the same area. At this point it really looks like it has flowered. Maybe I should call them and see how they react to me bringing this up. If they're douchey I'll ditch em.

What a dick, people need to mind their own business. I had a landlord once and he did that sort of shit, just show up unannounced and invaded my space. Must be an Ontario thing, that was in Markham. It pissed me off, I moved. Interestsd to see how the Do Si Dos turns out. I am either going to try that or HSO Sugar Breath, which is a Do Si Dos cross I can get at the local Hydro store. Convenient as they carry all Dinafem and HSO seeds. Cheers

@BarrieGrower, Yah it's been super rattling! Hopefully I can find something where I'm left in peace. Sugar Breath sounds like a beauty. Anytime I see anything with an OGKB I'm sold. I would definitely be interested to see that one run its course!

Too bad you had to deal with that. I doubt the little bit of light will cause your plants any issues unless he was doing it frequently
JRABTHEARAB
JRABTHEARABcommented6 years ago
@GreenHouseLab, thanks for the comment! Makes me feel a bit better. I haven't grown enough indoor yet to fully understand how easy or hard it is to turn a plant hermie and when I grew outdoor it just never happened. I know some have it in the genetics but either way it would be rattling! I'm pretty sure it was only opened twice and probably not for long periods.. hopefully

Great looking grow, buds building nicely and lots of them. Should be a nice yeils of premo buds. I smoked somw Dos Si Dos last night for the first time. For me it comes on slow, not overwhelming, relaxing, calming, mellow and a bit physical. Loved it and it is goimg on my long next to list. Going to follow along. Happy growing!

Indoors i only have to fight against fungus gnats, and to prevent an infection from them its good to have always a quite dry layer, let some airflow ( so the flies can not land on your layer and put eggs in the soil. You can cover the layer with diamantous earth( its like glasshards to them).....and i used to spary the layer with neemoilsoution.. they hate it. But if only one llaes the eggs its a big mess ... and i could get rid with the hole bunch of stuff like nematoe, yellowstickers and the other remedies ive counted.but nematode worked very well. Happy flowering

@JRABTHEARAB, on the s8 I switch to desktop version of the site to edit weeks. Then the normal button are visible and the site works reasonably well. Click the three dots in chrome and check "desktop site"

@Mrs_Larimar, Im on my mac again and the button is here, exact same thing that happened with Amazon. I have a Samsung Galaxy s8 and its only like 3 months old and totally updated. you would literally have to be blind not to see the "Edit week" and "Remove week" buttons so idk whats up

@BarrieGrower, I read in a couple places that it does help out quite a bit with yield. I'm going to try it hopefully for my next flower with the LED t5 strips. I'll put them around each side. I'm growing girl scout cookies clones next run so I'm going to experiment with a couple things and see the differences. Maybe I'll just put two LED strips in and see how much better those sides do, then ill know if it actually is worth it

Hi, nice grow nice setup,,,,, just one lil tip , if you use a dome for seeds ( because of your low rh) put in some holesfor transpirate. Normally you dont use domes for seeds, but if you should put holes into it.happy growing

Just realized I didnt really answer your question, they're just like a regular air pruning pot only a fraction of the price!
