Researching this project was a ton of fun. Taught myself about lumens and par's and nutrient feed cycles. What an experience, was happy to get started!
So first off, just found this site or I would have posted right from the beginning!. First time grow for me and I decided to go with an auto flower because it seemed like a good first step into growing. I picked the Auto Jack Herer to start as the strain has a some history to it also its a great smoke overall.
My first 4 weeks have gone great. I had some trouble deciding which training method to use on it, in the end I went with LST and am very happy with that method. As I have gotten to about the mid point of my 4th week I have noticed it starting to go into flower, I still have it on veg nutrients and am not sure if I should wait for my usual day to switch it to bloom nutrients or do it now.
I have had a ton of fun so far!. I have 2 more Jack Herer seeds that just poped up, and picked up 5 trainwreck seeds today as well (also from crop king seeds)!
I should mention my lights are a BestVA 1000w (185w actual pull from wall) so I marked them at 150w above. While the light was okay for my first grow, I am looking to upgrade it as soon as possible.
Mid week 4 she has started preflower and I have shifted it into bloom nutrients. Really excited to start seeing flower formation and buds!
Went and took some more pics and added them. It's starting to put off a nice smell!!
This week has gone well. There was one night of a bit of a panic, the leaves started to do funky things that made it look like nitrogen toxicity. Turned out it was just doing it's nightly routine before lights out. Leaves still look a bit odd in the morning but about half hour to an hour later they have perked up and looking healthy as can be.
Update: The stretch over the last couple days was real, she's pushed right to the edges of the tent now. Starting to notice more flowering/bud formation!. It has been drinking about 1-2 gal of water a day, and I just did my 2nd top up this week, so I rolled in 3ml of armor si and 10ml of cal mag with this top up.
This week seen her grow a lot, and drink a lot of water. I had to top it up 3 times and on the 4th time I emptied it and put her in ph'd water with just a little bit of silica for 24 hours.
- Cla-Mag @ Silica added 10ml/3ml on 2nd top up.
- 3rd top up addition of 8ml micro 8ml bloom
- 24 hours before complete change out, emptied bucket added ph'd water with 10ml of silica
This week has gone very well, I am happy with how much the plant has grown and how healthy it looks. I have been forced to do more defoliation then I had first wanted to as it has out grown my projected size (good problems to have lol) . I have learned that for my next grow I will want to design my reservoir better, it is getting awkward to refill the bucket. I know I am addicted to this now, I have so many methods of growing I'd like to try out. I have to keep reminding myself not to get ahead of myself I'm still on my first grow 😆.
She is consistently drinking 2gal a day now. I am basically topping up everyday now!!
First and 2nd top ups of the week were with just ph'd water no added nuets.
03/01/19 3rd top up/swapped for fresh water and added 10ml micro, 10ml bloom, 5ml silica, 10ml CalMag
03/03/19 Addition of 2gal fresh water and added 10ml CalMag + 5ml Silica
I ran into height issues this week and was forced to super crop. Have added pictures to show the results of that. It's unfortunate I was forced to SC mid flower, but at least I have confidence in myself to do it next time around. Will be a little more in control of the growth next time around. For now the SC gave me the space I needed to finish out and the tops that I did SC have come back strong!.
**Notes on top ups performed:
First 2 top ups just water
3/9/2019 3rd top up - full change, addition of 6ml Micro, 6ml Bloom, 24ml CalMag, 10ml Silica
This week went well, the tops that were SC'd have recovered and are doing great!!. There is one minor issue with the roots completely exploding the net pot, I have some concern that it will collapse through the hole into the res below. I have a plan to pick up something to support the plant and take the weight off the bucket lid/net pot.
**Notes on top ups and additions:
First top only fresh water, 2nd top up addition of 12ml CalMag. 11ml Silica, 3rd top up added 6ml micro, 6ml bloom
This is a sativa with a indica kick. Looking forward to when it is dry!
Update: So, dry this came out to 4oz of some very frosty nugs. The buds are not as compact or dense as I would like, but I think that has a lot to do with the light I used. Which was a BestVA 1000w (185w actual), low quality product all around in my opinion. While it started out nice and bright after the first month I started to notice it dimming and as I finished out the grow it is down to about half the strength it was. So it lasted one grow :( . Also I would defoliate a little more at earlier stages to open the canopy up more (light planned defoliation to avoid stunting). .
The issues with the light aside I was very impressed with everything else. My Ohuhu tent for a budget tent worked great, the Remo nutrients worked great as a budget line up!. The taste of the buds has a citrus taste to them mixed with a hint of woody/earth flavor. When you first open a jar you are hit with a strong citrus smell with a herbal/earthy smell in the background.
This was my first ever grow. First time ever even seeing the plant up close and in person. I am just blown away by how this plant grew. She met and exceeded all expectations I am truly a fan. I still have 2 weeks of drying a head, so will update with final dry weight and taste profile!0
