1/3/25: Planted mango smile fantasmo seed. Quick to germinate and long radical 1in
1/4/25: Planted double grape seed, despite its poor germination, radical ~0.2in. Started germinating second double grape seed.
1/6/25: Planted second double grape seed in temporary pot.
1/9/25: Transplanted second double grape seed to main 3 gallon pot and removed/replaced the existing double grape sprout.
Watered seedlings by hand with 6.2 pH water and 314ppm.
1/14/25: Installed water rings, but still watering by hand. MS is significantly more developed than DG. Noticing MS leaves are a much paler green than DG.
1/19/25: Hooked up water reservoir to irrigation rings to start automated watering. MG is developing nicely, but DG is struggling. DG grew very long first leaves and seems to be a bit stunted. Hopefully that will normalize in the coming days.
Why did the first set of leaves on my double grape plant grow so long? It seems like the growth may be stunted as the second set of leaves are growing in weird as well. Is there anything I can do to get this plant on track?
could have more of a sativa trait with long skinny blades on leaves... or not. It might just be that those first 2-3 sets of leaves can be funky and the plant grows out of it.
the inconsistent pigmentation could be similar... either just some early fugliness or your fertilizer is out of balance. If not fertilized yet, then the soil is out of balance or too hot etc.
make sure "some" internode length develops and you should avoid any stunting.
as long as you are saturating all the way down, you aren't watering wrong. wait for top to dry and repeat. if any problems arise from such procedures it is the fault of how the soil was constituted and nothing else. add more perlite if normal watering behaviour causes issues. you want 50% of volume to be perlite or similar (33% in coco because it holds less water per volume)
1/29/25: Started automated fertigation at 1min per day for both plants. Will refill reservoir in coming days. MS is developing nicely and I’ve started LST. DG had deformed leaves sprouting all week, but seems to be normalizing now.
1/31/25: refilled reservoir. PPM seems low for the amount of nutrients I’m adding and for how hard my water is to begin with. DG still showing signs of something strange - fan leaves have discolored and disfigured sections. Will increase firtigation to 2x per day for 1min each.
2/22/25: Drained, cleaned, and refilled reservoir. Plant is showing signs of light stress or nutrient stress on some of the leaves, the top canopy is developing white/yellow tips and bottom leaves are dying. May increase watering schedule, but I don't want to over saturate the media.
3/2/25: Drained, cleaned, and refilled reservoir. Some yellowing on the tips, but otherwise everything looks healthy. Added some thyme and dill seeds in separate spots to take advantage of excess light.
