Germination

22 - Soaked a single seed in a shot glass of distilled water and placed in a dark box in a 70° room. 24 - The Seed popped (barely), so I soaked a Hydroplug for 15-20 minutes in distilled water to rinse well, squeezed out half of the water. I moved the seed to the hydroplug about 1/2”-1” into the slot. And placed it into a cup with a ziplock bag over the top to control humidity. I placed the seed in the bottom of my tent 25 - added a small amount of water to the bottom of a cup to give it some humidity. Seedling has not appeared yet. I placed it back into the bottom of the tent.

Week 1 26 - seedlings appeared and fist small root is poking out the bottom. Moistened plug and covered. 27 - Tansferred into dwc with seedling nutes. Less than recommended seedling amount. ppm 300, ph 5.8. Water just below plug to moisten with bubbles. Roots are not quite in the water. I’ve been covering the hole around the seedling to prevent light from entering the tank until she’s tall enough for a neoprene collar. Light set 24” on 100% 28 - same conditions 29 - continuing conditions, trying to keep the water chilled is difficult, using ice water bottles, a few more roots have come out of the plug. 30 - water staying about 6.5. 31 - water ph at 6.6, I adjusted the water to about ph 5.9. The first root dipped its foot in the water. Tons or roots emerging. She looks healthy and around 1.5” tall. I’ve been changing the ice bottle several times a day to keep water temps down. I need another approach because doing this isn’t sustainable. 1 - ph was at 6.5, I adjusted to 5.3. I’m thinking I’ll do a solution change on Monday. Today I split the collar in half to get something over the hole because it’s still not tall enough. There was a bit of yellowing on a few roots so I’m worried about the lid leaking light and not having that covered. Could be staining from GH nutes. Water temp stayed below 70 today with sever ice bottle changes.

2 - ph at 5.9, left it alone, water temps still around 68-69° filled a 5 gallon bucket with filtered water, I tested the water and it’s reading 225ppm after it’s been filtered. Tomorrow I’ll compare filtered to tap to see if my filter is bad or if I just have really bad water. Temps day/night 77/71°, Reduced to 60%rh Lights are on 18/6 set at 24” on 100% 3 - changed solution today 4 gallons of RO water. CaliMagic 1ml/gal Flora micro 2.5ml/gal Flora grow 2.5ml/gal Flora bloom 2.5ml/gal Ph to 5.8 Hydroguard 2ml/gal Continuing to use ice bottles to keep water cooler. She looks healthy and is starting the third set of true leaves. Roots are long and in the water. 4 - a few roots have broken off… I suspect it’s the Ice bottles when I first put them in. They are too cold and freeze the roots hard then they break off. I zip tied a tie around the top of each bottle and hooked it to the side of the bucket to keep it away from the new roots. Ph tested at 6.1 tonight. I didn’t adjust or add anything. Will check tomorrow. 5 - ph tested at 6.4, adjusted it down to 5.7. Water level is ok and holding temps between 67-70 with ice bottles changes twice a day Root development looks good and healthy. Overall it looks like a healthy plant so far. Keeping humidity around 65-70%. Temps 71-77 6 - ph tested at 6.1, I left it alone. Water hovering around 69-70°. Continuing ice bottles twice a day. Roots look good, water looks good. Environment same. She’s about 3”. 7 - ph tested at 6.01, I left it alone. There was a single brown spot on a newer leaf this morning. I suspect a deficiency in calcium deficiency, I used 1ml/gallon, basically nothing compared to the bottle that calls for 1ml/L. So I took a cup of distilled water and mixed 7ml in and mixed it into the solution to bring it closer to the recommended dose. I used half of the light feed schedule with nutes too so maybe my solution needs to be stronger. I will wait and see. 8 - Ph tested at 6.2, I let it ride for today. Solution temps keeping cool with bottles of ice. Same conditions. She didn’t appear to have much growth today compared to the past few. No new spots have appeared.

9 - Day 15 - adjusted solution down to ph 5.8 from 6.2. Solution temps running about 67° with twice daily ice bottle. Environment is staying the same 10 - solution change today. Fresh RO water. CaliMagic 3.75ml/gal Flora micro 5.6ml/gal Flora grow 5.2ml/gal Flora bloom 3.8ml/gal Ph to 5.8 Hydroguard 2ml/gal Mixed 4 gallons of water. Might be a little too potent. One fan leaf near bottom has bronze colored spots and brown spotting on the leaf. I suspect it’s some deficiency from very light feeding during the first week. 11 - New growth looks good, still a bunch of spotting happening on the two oldest leaves. Environment is the same. PH tested at 6.0 tonight and solution temp is staying around 68° with twice daily ice bottle changes. 12 - ph lowered to 5.8. No other changes. 13 - she looks good, still having a bit of spotting on some older leaves. Nothing that seems too serious. I am getting this brown stuff in my water, I need to look into the order in which I mix and ph my solutions for next change. I suspect something there is the culprit. It doesn’t stink, and its not slimy. 14 - ph is at 6.17. I’m going to let it ride for today. Roots are shooting out everywhere today. I’m Still getting some brown spotting on a few leaves, seems less and less on new growth through. Overall I think it looks fairy healthy. 15 - plant has a deficiency of some sort mag? Water will be changed Monday on schedule or earlier to try to correct the problem. Seems like a magnesium issue but I’m not 100% certain. ph tested at 6.1. I adjusted it back to 5.9. Water temps got up to 72° today. I need to be better with frozen water bottles or get larger ones that last longer. My light might be a bit too close as well since she’s growing taller, I moved it up a few inches. She’s standing about 7” tall from the plug.

I have some brown spotting happening on one leaf right now. I’m assuming a calcium deficiency from light feeding last week? Any other thoughts?

Got the image to load, finally -- Definitely hold off. Some minor blemish on one of the oldest leaves is not something to react to strongly. Worth keeping an eye on it. Leaves can develop blemishes just from touching or nearly touching the pot or substrate and nothing to do with nutrition. Old leaves get fugly with time. If the plant is not shedding them, they are value-added, no worries. --- 6.2 would not hinder Ca. In fact it'd be more available at 6.2 than 5.8. Lower pH generally requires more Ca, which at some will then lockout a ton of other stuff because it's a +2 charge with greater affinity for bonding sites. So, don't overreact either way. If you come to the conclusion it's low Ca, step up slowly. It can take weeks to see the entire reaction to any change in formula. Obviously if it continues to trend poorly, may need another increment. It's easier to add stuff than to take away. Once the plant uptakes too much, it has no excretion system. It's there until it is used or causes damage.
