Started seeds on June 4th on wet paper towel in ziplock baggie. Placed in small pots with FOX Farms Ocean Forest mixed with a little Miracle grow in hopes of keeping nitrogen levels a little lower for seedlings. 72w CFL. I've been naming all of my plants after Walking Dead characters making it easier to discuss in mixed company. Strawberry Cake (Beth), Glueberry OG (Herschel), Wembley (Eugene).
The three are coming along fine. Topped Eugene at fourth node on day 22. Transplanted to 3 gallon pots on 6/28. Strawberry Cake and Glueberry OG in FFOF. Wembley in coir/perlite mix with Aurora Innovations Soul Grow and some cal/mag. Moved to 3x3 grow tent under 400w MH. Herschel got topped on the 29th at 4th node. Started LST on July 2nd.
Eugene has retaken the lead on height. All seem to be dealing well with LST and topping , except Beth who only got LST. She's short and squatty, but looking healthy.
All three are getting bushier and responding well to LST. Beth, the only one not topped, has really short internode lengths and fan leaves as big as my hand already. They're getting about a liter of water every couple of days,
They're really growing quickly. Herschel (Glueberry OG) and Eugene (Wembley) are stretching almost like I put them to flower. Beth (Strawberry Cake) is staying short and bushy but keeps growing massive leaves.
Flipped to 12/12 light schedule. Swapped MH to 400w HPS. Female flowers visible on all three. Eugene(Wembely) and Herschel(Glueberry OG) are both much lankier than Beth(Strawberry Shortcake). Beth definitely looks like an indica.
8 days from the flip to 12/12 light schedule. Herschel (Glueberry OG) has been a little problematic in that she wants to be much taller than the other two. I had to give Herschel one last LST. For the record, I'm only using the Soul Bloom on the Wembley, which is growing in coir.
I had to drop my lazy susan to the ground because Herschel is stretching so much. Somehow dropped the ball on my research and missed that Glueberry OG can grow to six feet plus. I had to raise Beth and Eugene to match Herschel's canopy. Hoping Herschel doesn't stretch much more. Herschel is also showing signs of what I think is a cal or mag deficiency. Wondering if I should give it cal/mag supplement with every watering for awhile.
So...I've had some issues. Had to address a bug issue. I couldn't find any bugs on the leaves or stems, but with a magnifier I saw bugs in the soil. Possibly root aphids. Made a rosemary oil, dish soap and water spray and doused all of the plants with it. Next morning I found that when the lights came on it burnt the shit out of the leaves and some buds. I thought it was the end, but they seem to be doing alright, despite the burnt leaves. Not doing that again. Did a peroxide and water soil drench on Beth in hopes of hurting the root aphids. Any input would be most appreciated.
Starting to see amber trichs on Beth and Herschel. Eugene's buds are fattening up and need support. Eugene (Wembley) is supposed to be done first, but not showing any amber yet. Still giving them about a liter of water every other day and feeding every other watering.
I fell behind on posting for a bit. These are from last week. Trimmed them up a bit for the last week. Herschel and Eugene got huge. Eugene needed a lot of support. One week to go. Trichs mostly milky.
Very pleased with this grow. Despite burning the hell out of the leaves with an unnecessary foliar spray for bugs, I still got a decent yield. Will grow again. Very vigorous growth with a lot of stretch during flowering. It does seem to be a heavy feeder and really needed cal/mag during flowering.
Very indica structured plant. No real problems during grow. Did need some cal/mag during flowering. Need to sample more after curing. First couple of hits are very sweet, but that drops off quickly.
Lanky branches that need support. Long buds. Pungent. Was fine with being fed every watering although I did alternate from time to time. Not very bubblegum tasting right now. Might be more AK47 leaning. Skunky smell. Did not require extra cal/mag.
Next time on The Walking Veg - White Widow (Andrea), Delahaze (Dale) and 707 Truthband (Tyreese) 😜
