Northern_Ent Mimosa Shot
Seed ‘priming’ using ethylene gas from ripe apple, in dark before sprouted seed is exposed to light.
https://scitechdaily.com/accidental-discovery-how-a-whiff-of-an-unusual-chemical-transforms-seedlings-into-super-plants/
I tried seed priming last year for peppers, tomatoes and cannabis. It works and this is as big a tip as “get a pH meter”.
Looking forward to another outdoor season, and good luck to all growers.

Northern_Ent April 26 Day 1: and we’re off…seedling is off to a good start. one more light frost tomorrow night and then they’ll all be outside. Was 22 C today but will be -1 C overnight tomorrow.
May 1 Day 6: the seedlings were stretching under my starter light and i want her to out grow the overly wet soil block she was started in. The weather is hot in a couple days so i wanted them to get hardened off before it hits 28 C this weekend. Super early to be outdoors here but the forecast is good for cannabis. Rock on.
Hybrid Wagon is Mimosa Shot and Sunday Punch EV.
Sativa Wagon is Lemon Cream Kush and hopefully Durban Poison.

Northern_Ent May 3 Day 8: it was hot these last two days at about 26 C but young seedlings seem okay. it was a bit cold these other night when i left them outside instead of in the garage. it’s enclosed but not heated and is warm enough to help them get throught the night.
And warmed water at about 26 C. Not over watering bit enough to warm the roots a bit in the morning.

Northern_Ent May 10: looking good. Overnight in garage and watering in early morning with warmed water.
May 11: the wagon helps chase sunlight around the yard, but it also helps to find shade at midday when the seedlings are feeling a bit overwhelmed.
May 12: rained this afternoon and high of only 15 C. in garage overnight.
May 15: looking good. 👍

Northern_Ent May 17 Day 22: looking good. it’s been cooler for the last week than it was in early spring but we’re in good shape for this early in the season. Another five full weeks until the summer solstice so still lots of time for good vegetative growth.
May 20: cool and rainy last three days.
May 22: still quite cool and rainy but should warm up in a few days.

Northern_Ent May 24 Day 29: last week was quite cool so slow growth. Once the fifth node forms I’ll do the first topping for the manifold. Maybe by tomorrow.
Forecast is perfect warm cannabis weather so there should be some nice growth this week.
May 25: topped this morning as first step in manifolding. This will ultimately be a 16 cola plant. That is definitely my preferred manifoldimg target for outdoor plants - 32 is too many (too slow) and 8 isn't enough.
May 29: seems good. She’s smaller than the Sunday Punch EV that was started at the same time.

Northern_Ent May 31: she’s doing fine. This Mimosa Shot is smaller than the Sunday Punch EV that was started at the same time, but still decently sized for the end of May. Still lots of vegetative growth to go.
Topped her a while ago but she’s been slow to recover and I’ll be waiting a few more days before the next round of topping to build the manifold.
June 1: added loose Scrog net to expose growth tips to light and keep fan leaves gently out of the way. Tried this loose Scrog approach last year and it worked great.

Northern_Ent June 7: i think Mimosa Shot likes it to be a bit warmer but she’s doing alright. Long daylight hours now and warm enough so she should make up for a slow-ish start.
June 9: loose scrog net is doing the job of keeping the growth tips exposed to light. Very effective. Re-arrange it a bit as needed as the plant grows. No need to even tie it off as the weight of the string is enough.
Video is a tip about keeping leaves moist in dry air. Plants are much happier when their leaves also get some moisture to make up for the low humidity.
June 12: looks good.

Northern_Ent June 15: she’s doing fine. Applied a second layer of loose Scrog net. Works great.
June 15: topped a second time. Internodal distance is a bit small for the manifolding I’m trying to do. Normally i would have topped it a few days ago but was waiting for it to grow out further. Maybe it wont be big enough to do 16+ colas and I’ll have to settle for 8 big ones instead. We’ll see.
Did a foliar spray of Extreme Blend early in morning (every 5-7 days seems about right). Looks nice and dark green right now to capture peak sunlight around the solstice.
June 18: rain day.

Northern_Ent June 21: start of summer and a new week for Mimosa Punch. Morning foliar spray with Extreme Blend, potassium silicate, and a few drops of Dr Bronners Peppermint Soap as a wetting agent. The peppermint smell also repels pests. The silicate will help make the stems tougher and better able to withstand any heat waves.
Starting another lazy compost tea this afternoon. This will be the third one so far this season. Just 26 C-ish water in a 5 gallon pail with molasses, compost, coco coir and a weak dose of Monster Maxx. Leave overnight and give it a stir a few times. More than enough for the cannabis and I use the rest on the tomatoes and rest of the garden.
June 23: adjusted net. Removed some fan leaves that were shading growth tips. To help keep the wagon plants kind of matched for height, i won’t top again to get 16 colas—just go with 8 on this one.
June 25: foliar spray with Epsom salts to provide Mg and S. New growth is a bit too yellow.
June 26: nice and green this morning so Epsom sallts did the trick.

Northern_Ent June 28: Mimosa Shot is doing fine. will leave this as an 8 cola plant.
July 1: growing fine and it’s liking the warmer weather.
July 2: added another scrog net layer to keep the 8 colas spaced out for sunlight. She has gotten taller and has gained a bit on the Sunday Punch EV which is also in the hybrid wagon. I think this MS just prefers overnight temperatures to be a bit warmer.

Northern_Ent July 12: looking good. Starting force flowering which is 12 h of darkness at same time each night for 2-3 weeks to initiate flowering.
Doing ten hours of darkness (9:30 pm to 7:30 am) plus a ‘bonus’ two hours by using the far red light for a few seconds before dark which causes the plant to go into dark mode about two hours faster. So, it’s like having a 26 h day with 12 h of dark. This is a great trick if you have daily access to your plants.
July 15: doing fine.
July 18: Mimosa Shot has finally caught up in height to the other plant in the wagon (Sunday Punch EV).
Added defoliation as a technique this week, but really that happens every week.

Northern_Ent July 19: second week of force flowering for Mimosa Shot. She’s doing fine and height wise has mostly caught up to the other plant in the wagon.
Defoliated the understory to remove small buds and most fan leaves. Left some big fan leaves down below but took most out to improve airflow.
July 21: doing fine.
July 22: Foliar spray with Epsom salts and potassium silicate in the morning. The magnesium in the Epsom salts seems to help with the yellowish new growth.
July 23: added another loose Scrog net layer this morning. Tying the net to water bottles to open up canopy to sunlight.
July 25: watered yesterday with some leftover water from steaming beets for dinner. That water likely had lots of N because beets are high in nitrate and the plants look really green today.

Northern_Ent July 26: Mimosa Shot has mostly caught up to the other plant in the wagon and they are now the same height.
Did a fourth lazy compost tea. See video explaining how I make it using things like blackstrap molasses and Epsom salts both of which are cheap and easy to find at the grocery store.
July 29: nice and sunny today. Plants look great.
Looking good! Going to give your "lazy" recipe a shot. I normally do similar ingredients, but toss a fish tank bubbler in there for a day, then dilute. May just whip up a whole 5 gallon bucket in one go, thanks for sharing! What do you generally do quantity wise for Calmag and Molases? 1Tbso per gallon?
@Arcadium, thanks. When I say lazy I mostly mean I’m not bubbling air through it. The key is to not use up all the dissolved oxygen so I use the tea after about 20 h. If left longer it will go anaerobic and start to smell, and you will need to discard it. As for ingredients like Cal-Mag I just use a slightly weak label dose (1 mL/L). The other trick would be to use warmed water so that is about 27C or so to begin. I usually slow add a second kettle of boiled water the next morning too to warm it up for a few hours before use. Blackstrap molasses is about a tbsp per gallon. Easier to do than most recipes I see and it works. Monster Maxx also seems to help if you can find that.
@Northern_Ent, thanks, yeah I always also add lots of kelp + fish to the teas as well, harvested from farms right on Vancouver Island to. Heard good things about Monster Maxx though, will try it eventually. Tossed my bubbler in the pail anyways as I had it in hand, foaming away nicely!
@birdmountain, the far red light works both indoors and outdoors.
When force flowering the plants are in the dark garage by 9:30 pm and I use the 730 nm far red light then. This puts the plants into dark mode two hours faster and is like a 26 h day.
i found a 4 foot LED lamp
which works great. Sometimes called a bloom booster light.
when using outdoors dusk gets earlier each night by a few minutes. I time it based on Civil Twilight for my latitude as listed on timeanddate.com
Highly recommended but make sure you do it everyday during flowering.
