NEVER EVER grow at 24/0! ALL cannabis plants, autos included, NEED "sleep" for a correctly functioning metabolism and to have a defined daily photosynthesis cycle.........just like Mother Nature intended. You will gain nothing by doing 20/4, except a larger electricity bill..........18/6 is optimal. Put simply, just do 18/6 from day one until harvest, it is the most efficient and most effective. You will not get any noticeable gains by doing what you are thinking about..........except a bigger electricity bill! Cannabis undertakes certain metabolic processes during lights out, without a dark period it obviously can not do these processes and will have an incorrectly functioning metabolism. Any plant with an incorrectly functioning metabolism will never reach its full potential or have peak health. It is an absolute MYTH that it is ok to grow cannabis at 24/0!

* first couple days is a possible exception... but you also don't try to give max DLI the first couple days after sprouting, so it's a unique context. Too much light is just as bad as too little. Goldielocks zone is the key.

The only reason to do this is if your light struggles to provide enough DLI. (daily light integral - read wiki for basic understanding) if you provide enough DLI over 16h, that's fine. OVer 18h? that's fine. The plant absolutely benefits from some length of darkness and absolutely does not benefit when you give it more DLI than it can handle. (this amount varies due to local variables - Temperature, Relative Humidity, and atmospheric CO2 levels) -- You must derive the 'max' through trial and error. Doesn't matter if you give that same DLI over 12h or 18h. Length of time is relevant but on its own is useless. Rate x Time = DLI. Number of photons absorbed per day is what matters. Adjust light intensity or hours of operation (both can have same effect) based on plant growth pattern. If nodes are too tight, reduce DLI. If nodes are too stretched out/lanky, then you need more DLI. The area you try to cover with the light will obviously be proportional to DLI too. Try to cover twice the area, all other factors remaining the same, then you have half the DLI across that larger area. hours and umol/s PAR are directly 1:1 proportional and area (relative to 1m^2) is inversely 1:1 proportional to DLI. You can infer this from the math explained in the wiki for DLI.

Yo bro, just checked out your vids, plants looking solid for 3 weeks in! Since it’s an auto, I’d go easy on defoliation. Maybe just remove a few of the biggest fan leaves if they’re blocking a lot of light from getting to lower sites, but don’t overdo it. Autos don’t have a lot of time to recover like photos do. If she’s about to hit preflower soon, you might wanna just let her ride and do a light cleanup later once pistils start showing. Less stress = more growth with autos. Hope that helps!

Your auto’s big fan leaves are your solar panels, at three weeks let them stay. Wait for the first white pistils at the nodes (pre-flower) before you trim, and even then only pull a few leaves that block light or are yellowing. Autos hate heavy defoliation, so minimal cleanup just before bloom is safest.

you can do either way. experiment and figure out what you like to do. everyone has their own way of growing and with stuff like this, there isnt necessarily a wrong answer. just opinions and preferences

Ciao!

here is nothing in this picture that yuo should remove. removing leaves does not 'help' a plant. https://www.cocoforcannabis.com/community/photons_corner/to-defoliate-or-not-to-defoliate/ unlike most marijuana sites, this guy doesn't just repeat bro-science. it has good info. the comment section and forum is still a minefield of user-submitted nonense, lol. there is no evidence that supports defoliation improving anything. it's just something that got repeated so often it became a commonly held belief you don't have congestion. There is no pathogen risk. removing growth does not 'allow it to focus on buds' nor anything akin to that. Removing leaves will actaully cause more leaves to grow as long as vege growth has not ended yet. it can delay flower. It can cause excessive stretch. So many negatives definitely happen and nothing actually shows an improvement in yield or quality, lol.

I usually start defoliating around day 20, as the plant typically isn’t strong enough before that. I focus on keeping the lower third of the plant airy – lollipopping helps with that. However, each strain reacts differently to defoliation, and it always puts some stress on the plant. That said, you can definitely remove a few leaves here and there, as long as you keep a balanced approach.
