Spike-GreenGrower Dutch Passion Growing Competition 2025 - Orange Bud 2.0 The first true leaves have separated well from the cotyledons and the second pair of true leaves are distancing themselves from the first set. I think it's safe to say, veg week 1 is over. -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- It was a terrible start to this competition, only having one of three seeds germinate. The seed that did germinate, had obvious stress signs to it. Look at her now!! Other than a few small signs of being overwatered, she is doing pretty well. I had expected nute burn by now due to the soil possibly being too hot, but no. She has no complaints there. I also expected her to half declare war on me after having fed her nutrients on Sunday, but no. Hot soil. Hot feed. Hot tent. Hot CO2. Hot VPD. Low humidity. PH at 6.3 -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- She hasn't been fed nor watered since Sunday. Perhaps it's just me, but I was seeing a few signs of overwatering on her leaves, so I decided to cut back a little on the frequency of waterings. The clay pebbles on top of the soil should work very well at keeping moisture in the soil. I'm thinking, in these early stages (weeks 1-2) she can be fed/watered once a week. We'll see if she holds out until Sunday or not. 😎 -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- As far as the pictures are concerned, I attempted to catch each little stage of seedling-to-plant. Spike-GreenGrower Dutch Passion Growing Competition 2025 - Orange Bud 2.0 (OB1) Veg week 2 has come to an end for this young lady. Yes, she is a bonafide plant now 😎 And the "OB1" title? We'll get to that soon enough.. -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- May 16 It was time to check in on her and look for signs that she is thirsty. At the same time, look for signs if the Living need a watering 😅 The clay pebbles should be helping to 'trap' some moisture in the medium longer (soil moisture meter incoming soon) and after moving a couple stones out of the way, I noticed the topsoil at that spot was still somewhat dark but nowhere near brown. It wasn't 'fluffy' anymore, which could have come from the weight of the pebbles... she might just make it till Sunday! She doesn't look thirsty, and the soil can still go a little so she didn't get watered. -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- May 18 She made it. Seven days of no watering and no feeding. No worms have jumped shipped yet either, so I'll take that as a good sign 😅😂 Her leaves have just begun to hang though. She might be able to push through another 12 hours or so. If I really wanted to be mean, I would hold off another 12 hours 😈 Let her stress a little bit. Make her roots work to find the last little reservoirs of moisture... but nah... she just started to straighten herself out. For the time being, she has been through enough. 4L of dechlorinated tapwater + feed + lemon juice the mix down to 6.3ph... an hour later she was praying again 😎 Lighting needs to be adjusted, at least I suspect it is the lighting that is burning holes in several of her leaves. 😂 I was certain she would handle 500 ppfd by now. Reduced intensity to 50% and lowered the lamp to 30cm. Running 450 ppfd now. Will look tomorrow if the problem has gotten worse. -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- May 21 Yup, she's a plant now 😂 Contemplating topping, but waiting on the leaves of the lower shoots to come through first. I want to be sure those shoots are fully able to process light before removing the head. We stopped the burning of the leaves, for the time being 😎And it looks like she is taking well to the medium and nutrients. I think she's ready for full doses from here on in. 4ml/L of Grow starting next watering, if she hasn't given me any odd looks by Sunday. -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- So what's with the 'OB1' title? Sue me again 😋 I needed to get the first dose of CalMag Pro in as soon as possible, so I pushed the feed one day forward. -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- May 23 She was finally ready to be topped. The leaves on the lower growth had fully formed and the branches they grow from started taking off upward direction. That signaled to me, the branches were feeding themselves and are no longer fully dependent on the upper leaves. -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- May 24 I'm just now noticing it, but it looks like a magnesium deficiency is creeping in. The tapwater (775us/cm), Living, the Army and 💩cannot support her Magnesium needs. Looked over at https://420life.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Marijuana-Leaf-Deficiency-Chart-scaled.jpg to see if she had any signs of a Calcium issue as well, but I'm not sure. Luckily I still have some Epsom Salt here in the house! Immediately ordered a bottle of Cal Mag Pro too 😅 The packaging says, I should mix 200g into 10L. I make 4L batches though. That rounds down to 80g/4L. She doesn't need to be watered though. How the heck... Okay. She'll get 1L. I may or may not have overdone it a wee bit on the epsom... Asked Twitter/X about an immediate foliar-spray recipe, and made a batch 0.5g/L. Spray right before lights out, every other day, top and bottom sides of the leaves. Seems legit. The leaves also breathe through the underside, so why not? Apply right before lights out? I'm running 24/7 though... here goes nothing then! -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- May 25 Watered 4L of dechlorinated tapwater + feed + lemon juice down to 6.3 + microbes Alga Grow was increased from 2ml to 4ml/L. She's on full doses now 😎 Sorry. The MEDIUM is getting full doses now 😅 We're not feeding the plant, we're feeding the Living 😱 -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- May 26 Burned the tip of one leaf with the foliar spray 😂 The tip of that leaf was nestled up against the inner side of the pot, and I didn't move it in time. The issue doesn't seem to have gotten worse and I should spray her again tonight, but CalMag Is arriving tomorrow. She can hold out another 24 hours... I hope 😅 -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- May 27 CalMag is here and she is getting 3ml of.... what the heck is this mint green, Absinthe looking stuff?? Smells quite alright. Wouldn't drink it though, and it has no alcohol for those wondering. This is the funkiest looking CalMag I have ever seen, but it's Plagron. It's gonna be good stuff. Chopped that burnt leaf and her adjacent other. They were the ones affected by the Mag issue anyway, so it's not a complete loss. We have a foundation to build up from now. There are no other leaves affected by Mag (yet). The Epsom mix should be doing its thing any day now, and in a week we should know if the CalMag Pro was enough.. or not 😅 The thoughts of applying some LST to widen out the branches, are crossing my mind. I also kind of just want to let her do her own thing. Hmm.. well, you know what they say. Spike-GreenGrower Dutch Passion Growing Competition 2025 - Orange Bud 2.0 (OB1) Veg week 4, and with that my LST experimentation, has come to an end. She was thirsty this week. She was fed Friday and today. -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- I think the pictures can pretty much do all the talking for this week 😂 In the end, I wasn't satisfied with the results of six main branches and 'reverted' (by means of garden scissors) to four. With that, I spread her out as far as she would stretch and bound her down, tightly. She's wants to grow upwards, quickly. -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------- June 3 Applied the final trimming to her. Time to send her off into flower! Lighting is set to 12/12. Intensity reduced from 70 to 60%. Alga Grow has been removed from the feed today.
