Starting in Aerogarden. Plan is to move to DWC bucket in a couple of weeks and switch to stronger light. In all my excitement, I forgot to lower the Aerogarden's hood light down all the way. Doh.
Was a bit concerned after the move to the bucket and the big clump of roots that got torn off transplanting but she seems to have bounced back and the roots are establishing themselves nicely. Probably erred on the side of caution with my water level initially and it may have been slightly too low. Did some top feedings for a few days and she seems to have responded nicely.
After a slow start, it was quite a week of explosive growth. Started some very basic LST. Pulled the plant over and trying to get things even the best I can. Everything is pretty tight together and stems are short so it's a challenge to stretch things out at this point. I've noticed some slight discolouration on some of the roots, not sure if it's something I should be concerned about or not. I'll keep my eye on it.
She's continuing to fill out. Seems healthy and happy. Did a little bit defoliation this week to to get some light into the out of the way bud sites. Upped the FloraBloom this week. So far, so good. Doesn't seem like I've effed anything up yet 👌
Still growing strong. No real issues that I can see. Did a bit more LST to try to even things out a bit. She's still a bit wonky on one side. I've done some light defoliation but being very cautious having read a few autoflower horror stories... that and not having any previous growing experience. It's been fun learning and making it up as I grow though.
Buds are pushing out and stacking nicely. My LST is definitely on the chaotic side. Spread things out a little bit more. I ended up bending the stem on the main cola a little more than I should have and she gave way - didn't turn out to be the end of the world, but my heart skipped a beat when it happened. Humidity has been terrible this week (70% +) due to days and days of rain. Things have levelled off in the past couple of days and back down around 60%. Leaves are definitely getting stickier and she's developing a subtle fragrance.
Plant has stopped stretching and buds are fattening. Terrible humidity in in the tent. I'll be adding a small dehumidifier to try to bring it down. Any other suggestions are welcome.
Things seem to be on track. Humidity continues to be my biggest challenge - hoping to to make it to the finish line without any incidents of mould. 🙏 Started cutting back on the nutrients. I must say I'm happy she's responded so positively to everything I've thrown at her as I've been a bit more aggressive with the fertilizers than with the original plan I had set out to follow. Hoping to see buds fattening up more over the next two weeks. 🌲
Coming to the end. I was hoping to see more fattening happening with the buds but I suspect my high humidity issues (and my leafy canopy) may have something to do with that. Started flushing today with a product called Clear by Dutch Nutrients - was recommended by the helpful lady at my local hydro supply store. I'll flush for a week and then finish with plain tap water for the last week before harvest. It'd be nice to see a little more action in the last two weeks. 🤞🌲
Kicking myself a bit for not being more vigilant about water levels - I’ve let it go pretty low and noticed my root development had seemed to stall out the past few weeks. Kept levels higher this week and have already noticed some improvement. Another lesson learned. She definitely put on a little weight this week which was nice to see. Tips of the leaves starting to yellow ever so slightly. I actually expected them to turn more given this was the beginning of the flush. As it is she’s still quite lush. Plain tap water the rest of the way until harvest. And of course, high humidity still my nemesis 👊
Still a few days out until harvest me thinks, but things seem to be progressing nicely. Buds are definitely fattening and trichomes are trending to the cloudy side - the odd amber instance. I'll probably let the buds on the lower side ripen a bit more before I pull her from the bucket. I've pulled off quite a few of the yellow leaves along the way as she cannabilizes herself during the flush, but there's still quite a bit of green - much to my surprise. I thought things would turn more quickly once I stopped feeding. Always learning. I love the smell of this plant. Can't wait to sample the goods.
Pleasantly surprised by early sample after drying for 8 days. Tastier than expected pre-cure. Sweet and fruity with slightly piney undercurrents in the vaporizer. Packs a pretty good punch at this stage - looking forward to see how things develop as it cures.
Pretty trouble-free to grow all in all. Lessons learned...
- be more vigilant with water levels: I tended to let things get pretty low and I think I suffered a bit for that in terms of root development
- defoliate! I think if I trimmed her out more - especially in the early flower stage - my buds would have developed a little better. I had a lot of scraggly stuff that ended up as fodder for my 'butter bucket'.
All and all, I loved the growing experience and am so looking forward to starting my next project; probably a Northern Lights and Great White Shark autos - but likely not until mid-September once holidays, etc. are out of the way. Can't wait!
@stunflower, it’s a bit out of control lol. I tried to keep enough in different stages to keep me busy and some days it’s HOURS of chores. But still within the guidelines. The DWC rabbit hole is an way to fall into. Mine is an NFT, ebb and flow hydro hybrid. Only seen a couple guys do it this way and I’m impatiently watching it myself.
@ThatoneAKguy, I wish I could offer some sage advice about light distance but I'm a complete noob at this and I think I've had a fair bit of luck so far. I've just followed manufacturer's recommendations - 24" during veg; 15-18" during flowering. My plant didn't do much stretching at all until it went into flower. I haven't yet tested the lux of my light. I'm curious to do so. I wish I had done more research prior to buying the light though - I was blinded by the low price and high wattage. I was initially planning to do my first grow in my wife's Aerogarden (40 watts) - then I fell down the DWC rabbit hole and plans changed. It's been a fun ride so far. Good luck with your many projects - I'll be watching with interest! 👍
@stunflower, the power of the DWC! I keep thinking that my hlg lights too close won’t make em stretch in veg I’ve got them at 22” hoping to get them to reach for the sky. Am I right or should I just stick it to them?? Do you ever test lux? Mine is 25-28,000
@Puffer_Bill, LOL! She does indeed look like Medusa. Some demon buds would be sweet. I probably should have thinned her out a couple of weeks ago and I'm a little nervous defoliating her at this stage of the game - I read so many conflicting things about defoliation. I guess I'll just let her go and we'll see how it all turns out in a few weeks. Can't wait. 🌲
Looking good ... Just got done harvesting a Northern Lights Auto & a AK-49 Auto myself. I wish you the same success.Good luck with the rest of your grow
