SkunkyBreeze Welcome to the grow diary of my 2025 balcony grow! Since growing weed got legalised in Germany in 2024, I started my first grow in 2024 and made a lot of experiences. I drew the following conclusions from my first grow: 1. I am going to grow only one plant to give it more space and better air ventilation to prevent powdery mildew and bud rot. 2. I am going to replace the one peppermint strain I was also growing on this balcony, because it is easily infected with powdery mildew. 3. I am going to use an automatic strain, so the plant will live from end of May until end of August to lower the danger of powdery mildew, bud rot, and fertilisation by male plants in my neighbourhood. This will also provide a maximum of sunlight to the plant, because the amount of sunlight on my balcony decreases rapidly in October. My balcony is headed southeast, so it gets sunlight from the early morning until about 2:30pm. It has a roof, so rain only affects the plants, if it is very windy. My balcony is located in Berlin, Germany, so if you are interested in specific weather data, you can just look for data from Berlin. I chose Super Skunk as a strain, because I really like the effect, the taste and the smell. Although this is an 80% indica strain, it has a really uplifting effect on me. In the past, it gave me an intense body high and uplifted my mood for about four hours after smoking. Then it turned to a feeling of strong fatigue and made me sleep very well. I am excited to see which effects the product from my own grow will have. My setup is as follows: - Pot: 15L Airpot - Medium: Plagron Light Mix - Fertilisers: Plagron Terra Grow, Plagron Terra Bloom - Additives: Plagron Sugar Royal, Plagron Power Roots, Plagron Green Sensation, Plagron Pure Zym - Water: The tap water in Berlin has a pretty high EC value, so I am mixing it 50/50 with "Gut&Günstig" source water, which has a pretty low EC value. The actual diary begins here: 16.05.2025: Planted the seed directly in the soil, because I want to stress the plant as little as possible. I only watered the area around the seed. But then I realized, that the rest of the soil dried pretty fast because of the sun and the wind. Watered everything with about 500mL of water without further additives. Temperatures in Berlin are a little low for this time of year, it is about 15°C (though it is warmer in the sun). So I will see if the seed germinates in a few days or not. If not, I will use the cotton wool method which worked like a charm for me last year. 17.05.2025: Watered everything with about 500mL of mixed water without nutrients. Had to leave for the weekend, so I used a plastic bottle and a stone to keep the soil from drying. Still about 15°C and a little bit of sunlight every now and then. 19.05.2025: Came back, the soil was fortunately still humid. Still no sign of any plant. The temperature is still about 15°C and the weather is pretty cloudy, no sun today. Watered a little bit around the seed with mixed water containing also Plagron Power Roots and Plagron Pure Zym. 20.05.2025: Finally some good weather! Temperature is around 22°C and the sun is shining. Still no sign of any plant. Watered with about 400mL of mixed water containing also Plagron Power Roots and Plagron Pure Zym. 21.05.2025: Still good weather, around 22°C. No sign of any plant. Watered a little bit with mixed water without additives. Time is running out, I want to complete germination by Friday. If not, harvest could be so late that fertilization by male plants in the neighbourhood could occur in August/September. I started to germinate two other seeds via the cotton wool pad method. I will wait until Friday to see if the seed in the soil germinates. If nothing is visible, I will dig it up to see what has happened. If it did not germinate at all, I will use a seed from the cotton wool pad. 22.05.2025: Temperatures dropped to about 15°C again. Used a lamp with a 20W light bulb to provide a little extra heat. Watered a little bit with mixed water without additives. The seeds on the cotton wool pad look like something is happening, but slowly. 23.05.2025: Temperatures still at about 15°C. I removed a little bit of soil to see what is going on. Looks like the seed germinated and is about to break through the soil. So everything is going good, just a little slow maybe. Used the plastic bottle again to provide a humid environment. Watered a little with mixed water without nutrients. The seeds on the cotton wool pad are also germinating, but slow. 24.05.2025: Temperatures still at about 15°C. Started to use an UV lamp instead of the regular light bulb, because the light bulb mainly heated up the lamp itself. A little watering. Still waiting for the plant to show up. Sooner or later she will come out. ;) 25.05.2025: Temperatures still at about 15°C. Plant is still not showing up. The seeds on the cotton wool pad are growing pretty good though. Moved the pot inside to provide better germination temperature. 26.05.2025: Although inside for one day, the plant still did not show up, while the seeds on the cotton wool pad are germinating fast and already got rid of their shell. Decided to dig up the seed. It had some green leaves, but almost no roots. Decided to continue with one of the seeds from the cotton wool pad.

SkunkyBreeze So after a bumpy germination phase I can finally start to grow a flower. After I placed the germinated seed in the soil on 26.05.2025, it started to shoot up about 2cm right away. I am keeping the pot inside at night to prevent the seedling from getting to cold. 27.05.2025: It was a little sunny, so I could put the seedling outside. Used a plastic bottle to keep it humid. The two leaves opened up. 28.05.2025: Watered all of the soil a little bit with mixed water with Pure Zym and Power Roots. Everything is looking good. Weather is really bad, so I kept her inside and gave her light via two UV LED light bulbs. 29.05.2025: She grew and stretched a little. Decided to expose her to wind and direct sunlight to prevent stretching and falling over. Weather was sunny, but a little cloudy, the temperature was about 20°C. So the plant was exposed to sunlight, but not all the time. She was also exposed to the natural wind and I also used a fan to add a little wind. Still keeping her inside during the night because of the cold temperatures. 30.05.2025: Everything going good. Temperature is about 18°C and it is really cloudy and humid, RH is about 85%. Placed her outside and used the UV bulb to add a little artificial sunlight. 31.05.2025: Pretty good weather, 23°C and about 60% RH, there are some clouds, but still lots of sun. The first tips of the new pair of leaves is showing. I think she is doing pretty good. Measured the pH of my solution, was surprised to find a value of about 7.0. I then measured the bought water and tap water. Turns out that the bought water is still at about 6.8, while the tap water now is at least at 7.4. I measured it a few months ago and it had a pH value of 6.5-6.8. So it is really important to measure the pH value every time. Bought some pH-Down for vegetation phase and for flower phase. 01.06.2025: Rather cloudy, about 23°C and 65% RH. Everything looks good, the leaves are growing and she is not stretching.

SkunkyBreeze Vegetation week 1 went pretty good, the plant grew like I wanted and did not stretch too much. I also identified a problem with the pH value in my tap water and fixed it. So here we go for vegetation week 2! 02.06.2025: Everything looking good. Watered her with an adjusted pH value of about 6.4 for the first time. 03.06.2025: Still watering with a mixture of tap water, bottled water, Pure Zym, Power Roots and pH down. Thinking about adding Terra Grow in the next few days. Noticed that the leaves are looking a little droopy. I think I overwatered her (I was almost watering every day in the last few days). Will let the soil dry a little and then try to water every two or three days. 04.06.2025: She is still growing, but the leaves are still a little droopy. It was sunny and dry yesterday and I used a fan to dry the soil. So the soil dried pretty good, but still is not as dry as it needs to be for the next watering. 05.06.2025: She is growing, but the leaves still do not look perfect. Soil seems to be pretty humid. So I will still wait with the watering. 06.06.2025: The soil looked pretty dry, so I watered her with about 400mL. Added Terra Grow and Sugar Royal for the first time. I am starting slowly with the Terra Grow. I added 1mL/L (or 0.4mL for the 400mL). 07.06.2025: She got hit by some strong winds yesterday, so she was standing a little bend down, like when you do LST. Today, she is almost back to normal. No watering today. 08.06.2025: In the beginning of the week the weather has been partly sunny and cloudy, now it is clouds only and pretty cold (about 18°C). Did not notice any further problems. No watering today. Noticed a weak smell for the first time.

SkunkyBreeze I think vegetation week 2 went pretty good, the plant grew a lot. In week 2, I noticed that I was watering way too often and reduced the frequency of watering. I also noticed that some of the leaves looked a little wavy. Maybe this is because there was not enough distance between the UV bulb and the leaves. Does not seem to be a real problem. So we are starting into vegetation week 3 with a plant that is 15cm high and already started to smell a little bit. 09.06.2025: It is cold and cloudy, about 17°C. Some of the tips of the leaves are facing downwards. I will not water her today, but wait a little longer. 10.06.2025: Still cold and cloudy, about 17°C. She is starting to create some branches. Watered her with 300mL with all the usual nutrients. 11.06.2025: The weather got better, about 20°C and some sunlight. No watering today. 12.06.2025: Today it is really sunny and about 23°C. No watering today. I noticed the smell when the plant was inside, so I let her spent her first night outside. Seems like she took it well. 13.06.2025: Friday 13th! She was hit by the wind again. Placed her a little more protected. Had to leave for the weekend. Watered her with about 600mL, because the weekend will be very hot and sunny (up to 30°C).

SkunkyBreeze In vegetation week three, the plant became much taller. She got hit by the wind again, but recovered pretty good and became much more stable. She also entered the preflowering stage, which I find a bit too early. I would have liked her to grow a little more to get a better yield. But anyhow, she will definitely finish before male plants in the neighborhood enter flowering stage. So here we go for the first week of flower! 16.06.2025: Came back late last night. Looks like she did good while I was away, she recovered pretty well from the hit she took from the wind. The soil was dry, but not too dry. Noticed that she entered the preflowering state. The smell got more intense and is already pretty skunky. I really like it! I noticed a little yellowing on the first leaves she had, so I guess she needs more fertilizer. I will add more Terra Grow during the next watering. No watering today. 17.06.2025: Weather is nice, about 25°C, a lot of sun and only some clouds. Watered with 400mL. Used more Terra Grow this time (2.5mL/L). 18.06.2025: About 28°C and almost no clouds. She is really stretching and invests into the branches. No watering today. 19.06.2025: About 24°C and dry. No watering today. 20.06.2025: Still hot and dry. Noticed a spot on a small leaf that looks like powdery mildew. I noticed another spot on a big leaf a while ago, but it was in an unusual place and it had not been so humid, so I did not really think it could be powdery mildew. But now I might need to take some action. Bought a fungicide based on potassium hydrogen carbonate and applied it. Watered with 500mL. 21.06.2025: About 30°C and very dry. One of the spots became brown, so I guess the WPM died there. The other one did not change that much. 22.06.2025: About 35°C and very dry. Removed the small leaf with the white spot and its "partner leaf". Watered with 500mL. Used a little Terra Bloom this time (1.5mL/L Terra Grow and 1.0mL/L Terra Bloom).

SkunkyBreezestarted grow question 4d ago
Could this be powdery mildew on the pictures? I have to add that the spots were a little more fluffy but I removed some of it with my finger. The weather has been really dry, so I thought it was impossible, but it still looks like it. If it is powdery mildew, what should I do?

It does look like it to me. Big temp fluctuations can cause it and some plants are just really susceptible to it and others can be next to a plant covered and not get a spot. With WPM prevention is better than cure. Use Trichoderma when you plant and transplant to help the plant build a defense system. Once you have it, it is pretty much impossible to get rid of. You can use bio sulfur or copper soap in veg to try knock it back, but it is inside the cells of the plant and will come back. Do not spray anything in flower, it may knock the WPM back, but you will end up with rot and WPM, so hit it as hard as you can until you're around 2 weeks into flower and then all you can do is hope it was enough and try keep environment stable, but outdoors, you just need to pray. 🙏

SkunkyBreeze During the first week of flower, the plant stretched pretty much from 33cm to 57cm and it created some branches. It was a hot and dry week, the weather was pretty extreme. Unfortunately, some white powdery mildew showed up. I took care of it, but you cannot really get rid of it and only try to control it. So let's hope it won't be too bad! I noticed that the pistils looked burned. This could be due to pollination, very hot weather, the wind, or me spraying the plant with fungicide. If it is pollination, I will once again lose a harvest, but I do not think that this is the most common explanation, since we are in the end of June. So let's go for flower week 2! 23.06.2025: Weather still hot, about 28°C. Noticed a very small spot on the big leaf that was already infected. Decided to cut it away. Also cut away the other big leaves so more sunlight can pass through to the smaller leaves and the places where the buds will show up. I think I found some thrips on the leaves I cut away. So I am going to use some Spruzit in the evening to kill them. No watering today. 24.06.2025: It is way colder, about 22°C. So big changes in temperature, which unfortunately is good for WPM. The bugs are still alive, so spraying Spruzit did not have the desired outcome. Maybe it was too hot. I am thinking about using neem oil at the end of the week to kill both bugs and WPM.
