Spike_KCanG DPGC 2025 - Psyche! - Orange Bud 2.0
Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse 😅😂

Big shoutout to Dutch Passion Seed Company for hosting this contest!
Also for selecting little old me and giving a newbie grower a chance to present what they do best in the tent.
I hope I don't let you down 😅😅
Also a shoutout to GrowDiaries, for offering growers a platform where we can track our grows, learn from our mistakes and show the world just how clumsy we can be at times! 😬😁😂😘

May 22
If you haven't been following my other Diary "DPGC 2025 - Orange Bud 2.0 (OB1)" you might be wondering what this is all about 😅
Beginning of May 2025, I received the Contest seeds and immediately went to work germinating. It was quite the struggle too. I made a couple of mistakes (didn't filter the tapwater so EC was extremely high, and there might have been a PH issue at some point as well) which led to OB1 'popping' after about 40 hours. Even then, some delicate care was needed to keep her alive.
I reported that the other two seeds unfortunately did not pop and my chances at this contest just got reduced by 66%
What I didn't tell you was that I kept caring for the two remaining seeds 😈
After 12 days, OB2 cracked open. OB3 followed two days later 😎
--------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------
Once again, I had to pull out a pair of tweezers and a steady hand as both seedlings ended up trapped in their helmet. Both surgeries went successfully.
OB2 turned into a right goofball looking thing, who might get deleted soon if she keeps giving me that weird look for much longer.
OB3 just opened its cotyledons this morning.
And here the Diary begins...
--------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------
They receive dechlorinated tapwater + lemon juice down to 6.3ph + 0.3g/L Microbes

Thanks for stopping by 👊😎
(Hope to) See you with the next update! 😅

Kind of my standard practice but, the first set of true leaves are full developed and they have separated themselves from the cotyledons.
The first pair of three-pointers is on it's way as well.
Veg Week 1 is over!

So far, so good. She has not complained. The CalMag signs the other two (OB1 and ICH1) are giving off have not been seen on her yet.
I'm hoping those signs never appear as the CalMag Pro arrived today!
The medium was nearly bone dry when I got home today so I took care of that quick.
She received 400ml of dechlorinated tapwater + feed + microbes. There was no runoff.

Lighting
The tent has 2x SF1000EVO (2024) hanging 50cm above the other two plants. The two lights are spaced 13cm apart which gives me a pretty much even ppfd reading of 475 across the entire canopy area. There are hot/cold spots, but generally the ppfd is even.
OB3 is 60cm below the 13cm spacing, and is receiving light from both sources. She has been getting nearly 400ppfd since she germinated 😅
As she grows taller, that number should increase quite a bit. Faster than with the other two plants in the tent.
The environment inside the tent wasn't optimum for the other two plants to handle anything above 300ppfd at the time of germination, but look at OB3! This grow could get interesting, if things go well.

Intentions for OB3
Other than psyche you all out, I haven't set any real goals. I don't want her to grow big, that much I know. It doesn't seem like a strain that will want to stay small though. She's not going into a pot bigger than 20L because I don't have any other pots bigger than that 😂 and I don't want her causing stress with OB1 and ICH1. So she can't go wide either.
If I keep her in this 'solo'-sized pot, aka a fake solo cup run, I fear she is going to get cramped and things will take a nasty turn sooner or later.
Wait a minute.. she's dependent off the light schedule of the other two, isn't she?
I think.. I think... yeah, I'm sure of it now: I just had an idea 😈

Late at night, I tiptoed through the house and snatched my daughter's grow tent (which was empty). The fact my better half woke up and asked me, what the heck I am doing, should have been enough to know, I was being too loud 😂
My daughter's 60x60x120cm is a hand-me-down from when I purchased the 120x60x150cm. There is a nook in the lung room where it fits perfectly. That nook is cooler and the RH is slightly higher than anywhere else in the room. If I want a chance at having the darker colors come through naturally, that nook is the best place to start!
Took me about 2 hours to set everything up and get a somewhat stable environment reading of 25C / 48RH when the light is at 30% intensity.
Set her to 40% at 45cm distance to the plant which gives about 450ppfd. Might have to play with these settings a little as time passes. It's probable the intensity will have to be lowered to keep temps where I want them, but the lights lowered closer to the plant to achieve the ppfd she will need later.

Jun 3
She's growing slower than I had expected and drinking less than I hoped.
I almost suspect a stunt. Other than a slight sign of overwatering, I don't see anything that would hint towards the medium being too 'hot' for her, aka. too much nutrients. Perhaps her Magnesium issue, which can slow photosynthesis, is the reason she hasn't grown much.
The medium was dry, for the first time in seven days. So she got fed, and I included a dose of nematodes for just incase. Even though her yellow sticky pad is still free of bugs, I'm not taking the risk. Nematodes won't harm anything else in the soil so, best case scenario, they'll die and become food for the Living 😱 (microbial life, no worms in this container).
I removed Alga Grow from her diet though, and reduced the microbes from 0.3 to 0.2g/L
Why? Because the light-timer was adjusted last night.
Hit her with Alga Bloom instead 😂
