Germination
5mo ago
Liteman6969 - Started out with a wet towel with 2 SFV OG Kush and 1 Grandmommy Purple. Check on them in 2-3 d. This will be my third and final attempt to successfully harvest a crop that I planted. It’s going to be a long journey but I think we have what it takes to finish this grow. - After 2nd day SFV OG has popped, never saw on germinate that quickly. - Grandma shouldn’t be far behind. - Looks like the seed has a bulge on the side of it like it’s trying to pop. It’s in a cup of water now. Grandma is about to pop. - About to put the old Purple woman in the dirt. - Added a half a teaspoon of Happy Frog General Purpose to all 3 girls to give them a nice start when they finally emerge. - I expect to see the 2 OG Kush SFV emerge tomorrow. - Still no sign of seedlings. This is day 3 on the OV Kush SFV. Should be emerging any day now.

Looks like the Grandmommy Purple is trying to pop the seed. Looks like a bulge on the side of the seed. Anyone ever seen a late germinating seed do this???

Hey Growmie, Yes, that bulge you're seeing on the side of the seed during germination is pretty common, especially with tougher or late-germinating seeds like Grandmommy Purple. It usually means the seed has absorbed enough moisture and is starting to split open, with the taproot or inner growth pushing against the shell. Sometimes, instead of cracking cleanly down the seam, the pressure causes a bulge in a weaker spot. This is a good sign that things are happening internally, the seed is alive and trying to break free. It’s also worth noting that some strains, particularly indica-dominant ones, have harder shells and take a bit longer to crack. As long as the seed isn’t mushy or showing signs of mold, it’s best to give it a little more time. If it's been stuck like that for several days without progress, you can try gently scarifying it or assisting the crack, but in most cases, patience pays off.

What is the best spider mite control. I’ve not had luck with Neem Oil in the past. Obviously, I’d like to keep from using direct application pesticides Suggestions???

Neem is not that great on mites. also most neem on the market is missing the active ingredient in it that does kill or mess up the bugs. Its also not great for humans. so ideally don't use it on anything you plan on ingesting. For mites you have to go nuclear if in veg. in flower its harder. In veg anything that has Permethrin or something like it. this is most effect on mites and many bugs. In flower you don't have many options without contaminating the buds with pesticide chemicals. You can also use beneficial predators to keep mites in line and reduce their numbers. their are a few who eat them, I only know of one that will go onto the webs and eat them. One note when using predators, you can not use other topical pesticides as it will ill them. In water additives like BTi will not harm them as the predators do not go into the soil. One way to help knock population down is to spray the plant outside with simple soap and water and then power spray them off without hurting the leaves/plant. In mid flower this is not ideal but beginning of flower or veg is fine. After your grow is done, toss out any medium or sterilize it to kill off any mites/eggs that might be hiding/fallen off into the soil then bleach the tent. Treat any house plants as well if indoors and treat neighboring plants outdoors as they might just jump ship to the closest option.
