Well, this is embarrassing. Look at how small these plants are after 8 weeks of veg. There are a few reasons for this. First, I chose to veg these seedlings in a secure outside location at a friend’s house during a really cold and rainy New England spring. Second, I didn’t start to add Cal-Mg supplement until after a month of veg, so there was a CalMag deficiency issue, because coco needs CalMag. Third, some bugs were feasting on these poor little seedlings. Fouth, this area only gets full sun after 10:30 am, so the plants were getting only about six hours of full sun per day. Most importantly, I fucked up mainlining and topping the plants. Here’s a lesson learned: “Look before you cut.” Look at T#4, to the far right in the picture. It’s the biggest plant because I only topped it once. You may ask why T#4 doesn’t look like it’s been topped. Why does it only have one cola? Because there was only a growth bud on one side of the third node where I topped it; the plant was asymmetrical at that node. If I had looked and noticed that before I topped it I would have topped at the 4th node and have a much bigger plant right now. So why are the other three plants so much smaller? I think it’s because I topped them a second time for four colas. They were too scrawny when I topped them the second time because they were very slow to recover. At any rate, they’re doing OK now and will hopefully yield some good quality smoke, although my errors in this outdoor grow will assure me of a low yield. Lessons learned.
