I am taking clones from my flowering Acid Dough near the end of week 3. This is a form of Monster Cropping.
I will begin week 1 day 1 as the day clones are cut not rooted.
When I cut the clones I want fast rooters as these will be revegged for several weeks unless they get to unruly so I will be looking for growth that originates near the base (if I planned to flower right away I would take clones that originated near the top of the plant). I have a jar of nute solution to put the fresh cuttings in. The rock wool has soaked in the nute solution for a day.
Everyone does their clones a little different. I cut the clones at a 45 degree angle about 2" below the first node put the cutting in nute jar right away and let them soak for at least 20-30 min. I shake off the excess water and coat the bottom inch in rooting gel and then in rooting powder. I then place the cutting in the rock wool. I put the fresh cuttings in the dark for the first 2 days spraying the leaves with tap water once or twice a day. From there they will sit under a humidity dome with a 300w led 36-48" above until roots begin to grow.
8/5 After two days in the dark they don't look any worse for wear. The temperature outside the box was 72 and inside was a nice cool 69 caused by evaporative cooling off the small puddles in the box. Today I put them under the 300w (eq) LED in trays (wife's baking dishes with a dome I made with clear plastic and a dollar store basket with the bottom cut out. I put a temp/hygrometer under one of the domes. I will check the readings in a few hours.
I have never cloned during flower supposedly their new leaves will not look like a MJ plants until several sets (nodes) are grown and they should branch like mad for a few weeks! But we will see.
Well checked on them after 3h and the temperature is a wonderful 75. However, the humidity is not wonderful at 90 so I removed the domes and will check back in a few hours.
8/6 removed the lower leaves. Temperature is a little higher without the dome but the humidity is much better. Rock Wool was drying out so I added about 80ml to the bottom of each dish. I added to the dish not the blocks to encourage the clones to seek out the water.
8/8 day 5 I see some new growth on most of the cuttings. I suspect we have roots. They should start poking out of the rock wool over the next couple of days if I get their DWC set up I will transfer them.
8/10 Day 7 put the prettiest 6 in the DWC. I took 7 because I had read that monster cropped clones have a higher mortality rate than vegative clones.
8/15 Day 12 pulled apart a rockwool block she had several taps about 1/4" long. Thursday when I change the reservoir I will give them week 1 veg nutes per the attached feeding schedule.
8/17 changed them to week 2 veg nutes. Lots of yellow leaves I'm not sure if it is the lack of nutes in the reservoir last week or if they were not ready for the light intensity (300w eq. LED at 36") although it shouldn't have been the light at that distance. I will keep an eye on them.
8/18 I pulled one of the girls and we have roots outside the net pot!
8/22 I spoke with House and Garden rep yesterday, really nice guy talked for over an hour, and he said that I should have been using veg week one the day I put them into the DWC. If you ignore the yellow they are growing now.
I think I know which two I want 😂. One more week and I will put the two in a flower DWC in the big tent. Per HG advice I am leaving the nutes at week 2 veg unless I see deficiencies.
8/27 3 of them looking good!
8/30 looks like branches are beginning to grow. I added (6) 100w eq cfls today.
8/31 we have little branches!!
9/2 looks like they will be good to go for flower Monday!!!
Starting flower today 3 of the 4 remaining clones I hate to get rid of but if I vegged them for a month until I need 2 more in flower I think I'd have another mess. I may let them go for a while until the cuttings I take today need the veg tent.
The roots have developed much faster than I anticipated and were tangled with the air lines and each other. I didn't expect that the ladies would have roots 12-18" long that quickly. I will keep a note to make some DWC modifications to accommodate this. I did my best to save all the roots I could but you can see in the photos they aren't the 18" roots that were there but I still have plenty of time for them to grow.
9/6 showing nitrogen deficiency added .4ml/gal nitrogen booster. I gently super cropped the twins today. Not seeing any evidence of the root damage in their growth at all.
9/8 installed the trellis at 8" one of the twins is slightly above one slightly below. Almost training time!
I was looking back at my original Acid Dough diary and they appear to be flowering at about the same rate so I suspect and am counting on them continuing to grow through week 6 or so as I am still scrogging.
This week I will be treating one branch with a 100ppm solution of gibberellic acid. The plan is to collect the pollen from the resulting male flowers on my feminized Acid Dough. This will then be used to pollinate another (or even the same) plant. Since the plant is a clone taken from a known female the resulting "male" pollen will carry only female chromosomes thus making any seeds produced by this pollen female!!!! And since they are not stress induced male flowers there is no introduction of a hermie trait!
Beginning week 6 of flower. I've stopped the growth supplements and am beginning BUD-XL.
The plants are showing an iron deficiency. Since I am using tap water I cannot believe that. I need to change the reservoir anyway since I'm stopping the growth supplements so I will see how they look later.
10/9 sprayed the branch with gibberellic acid again (5 days) still looks like a female flower.
10/13 everything looks good now.
10/15 still no sign of male flowers. I reread the information and I have confused the silver nitrate and gibberellic acid instructions. Gibberellic acid should have been applied beginning 5 days before switching to 12/12. Silver nitrate is what should have been applied to the early female flowers. So I will try again on my other clones diary.
Budlets are forming everywhere.
10/18 appears that vegative growth has stopped so I have added 4ml/gal of Top Booster and reduced the micro nutrients to 5ml/gal. I will completely drain the reservoir Monday to remove any remaining Top Booster and begin Top Shooter with even lower levels of base nutrients.
Getting sticky and smelly!!!!
The bamboo scrog is great but the next one I will tie with twist ties instead of weaving it.
Not much going on this week the last two will get really busy.
Increased top Shooter this week continuing to feed bud-xl. Should be fattening up the buds the next three to four weeks or so!!!
11/4 moved the light for some better pictures today!
As those who follow my diaries you know I’ve been plagued by bronze spots yellow leaves and burnt tips. @b4rns has suggested that I have magnesium deficiency and the House and Garden representative was inclined to agree. Due to the amount of yellowing I have begun flushing and plan to harvest this weekend.
Acid Dough has a great sweet citrus smell with acidic overtones. The taste is sweet with a pineapple candy flavor. If you enjoy energetic strains I would certainly recommend this! Uplifting, creative, energetic, euphoric daytime high with a sweet and sour pineapple candy flavor.
I scrogged these very low (8”). The scrog was 2’x3’ and I filled about 4sqft of it. Anxious to see the weight at 600g/m2 it should be about 223g I would have liked to have given them another 2 weeks so if I get 180g I’ll be happy. Hung to dry and the humidity was low so I put a water tub near the plants. I will keep an eye on them. I want 70F at 60%rh.
Wow under 50g each. I should have let them finish reveg and grow out a bit more. Hopefully my next monster clones do better. I trimmed them to about 9 branches each and let them grow up through the scrog some.
@Tazard1, To be honest I'm not to familiar with DWC practices. I know that my roots don't look like that when I clone in hydro by they don't look unhealthy. I'm not really the guy for Hydro root advice to be honest. Looks good in my opinion but like I said I'm not familiar with how they really should look so I'm really just an admirer in this situation :D
8/21 all 7 have roots so I got rid of the scrawniest one. I only plan to keep 2 of the 6 remaining but want to make sure I get the best two and the other 4 cost nothing extra since they are in a single DWC. I will also be making a new 2 pot DWC for flowering. My plan is to take 6 clones from the two I keep at the end of 3rd week flower (just like these 7 were) and flower them 3-4 weeks after cutting so I can have a 6-7 week perpetual harvest of 2 plants. Hopefully they will yield 6oz each. Then my wife and I can stop paying for it. 😊😁🎊🎉🍾😉
@Newbie_uk, oh my gosh is it ever tasty. This is my second round with Acid Dough. The first was three plants and I also have another grow with two plants behind this one! It has a sweet and sour flavor kinda like a pineapple candy. I love it!
Class m8 :) :) never realised how many different ways there are to grow, and so many added nutrients, Fs I wouldn't know we're to start, probably just as well I can't have an indoor grow lol amazing to look at, plenty of bullets forming, gonna follow this 1 as well..happy growing m8 :) :)
@@Tryhard, I think it’s my favorite so I wanna get a little stockpile before I start getting multiple strains. I have one more pair of these monster clones about 5-7 weeks from harvest.
@BigDaddyK, what do I need? Next grow was going to be three two Plant DWC’s in the big tent. I was going to run Big Plant Science in one, House and Garden in another so may as well put Canna in third lol. My understanding is that the House and Garden guru used to work for Canna. I could just be confused
@Tazard1,ok for next grow is there any way you can just try some canna nutrients ? I can give you perfect ppm s , the plants look like they are overwatered , which is impossible in DWC lol , if I wanted to experiment , I'd buy some cheap mineral water and use that , 250 - 500 ppm of nutrients is easily enough to grow .no more .
@biggreens420, I will be documenting the progress so others can do this too! However if you collect pollen from plant "A" and pollinate plant "A" to get seeds you should NOT use the resulting feminized plants to get more seeds. If however you take a clone from plant "A" and you pollinate it with the pollen you collected from plant "A" then you can use those babies to make more seeds! You can also cross breed using the same rule.
I think cloning is super fun...I have sucsessfully cloned my clones with a 95% success on roots so far...I like seeing what your up to always because we have a lot of the same ideas, concepts and determination...each grow is a learning experience and I pick up as much knowledge from you as I do doing it hands on...thanks for your documentation and sharing of knowledge...much respect!!!!!!!
@Sillyasswhitedude, Thanks. I learned a lot from reading diaries. I always look for an existing diary when I do a new strain. Your diaries are also very well detailed and I enjoy seeing your updates.
