Chocholate Mint OG 2.0

Grow4ever I got some revegetated cuttings. Here we have a chocolate mint OG 2.0. The parents are Emerald OG x Grandaddy Purple, really awesome combo. So I started activating my plant charcoal yesterday; for that, I soaked it in osmosis water with fish, grow mix, and a bit of worm humus, stirring it occasionally. Normally, the charcoal should steep for up to 2 weeks, but the minimum should be around 24-48 hours. I also added drainage with clay pebbles in the pots. The soil is mixed with 5L of worm humus, 20L of light mix, 12L of coconut, and 3L of plant charcoal. For long-term nutrients, I crumbled in 3 Biotabs NL.

Grow4ever Update after repotting. Unfortunately, I didn't consider one thing while mixing the soil. My coconut soil was not adequately buffered. Too much potassium and correspondingly low Cal/Mag, which was then completely drawn out by the coconut fibers. You can see clear leaf symptoms. Thanks to an attentive comment on Growdiaries, I quickly noticed my mistake and have since been watering with 0.5ml/L BioBizz Cal/Mag and additionally using Epsom salt for a quicker correction of the K,Ca,Mg ratio. The very next day, I noticed a significant improvement. Honestly, the ionic balance really made me sweat. But now I'm relieved and very curious to see how my soil composition stabilizes over the next week. With the two cuttings, I removed some unwanted leaves and shoots.

Grow4ever A few days away and then such bushes in the tent. That meant today was all about defoliating and setting up the SCROG net. Unfortunately, they suffered quite a VPD shock; in one photo, you can clearly see calcium symptoms and upward curling leaves on the Chocolate Mint OG. So this morning, I first watered them with a dose of Cal/Mag and a bit of algamic, and raised the lamp higher. This evening, I got right to defoliating, as to be honest, I won’t have much time this week otherwise. Now they should recover and fit into the SCROG.

Grow4ever The flowering has been initiated. Everyone is doing very well so far, and the canopy is nicely filled again, so I’ll defoliate again around day 20. In the last two watering rounds, I slowly started adding fertilizer with BioBizz BioBloom. I want to support the flowering alongside part of the BioBizz range in reduced amounts, with a homemade Fermakor from @yan420. It’s a chemically derived organic-mineral hydrolysate that is significantly more stable and concentrated than a ferment, but contains biologically available amino acids, fatty acids, and phosphates. I really have to be careful with the dosage here. The huge advantage of Fermakor is that the nutrients potassium and phosphorus are already directly available to the plants. Since I mostly work organically with LZD, as I said, it’s for support for fat buds. I’m very curious about the test and thank Yan again for sending it for free! Definitely check out his recipe, it’s very interesting.

Grow4ever Last week, the Chocomint OG showed the first clear signs of flowering. However, at the same time, significant nutrient problems arose. Several leaves show necrotic, brown tissue damage between the leaf veins. At first glance, the damage resembles a magnesium deficiency, but it clearly differs due to the absence of typical interveinal chlorosis. Instead, these are actual tissue burns. Based on the history and the previous fertilization measures, I do not suspect a magnesium deficiency. A potassium blockage is more likely. This may have arisen from a previously increased CalMag application used to correct the Ca/Mg ratio in the unbuffered coconut content of the substrate. The coco initially bound calcium and magnesium strongly, which may have led to an overcompensation. Similar symptoms appeared at the beginning of the grow as classic CalMag burns. Currently, I assume that the excess ratio of Ca/Mg is inhibiting potassium uptake and thereby causing secondary deficiency symptoms or burns. Further measures are now aimed at stabilizing the nutrient ratio and gradually resolving blockages, so I will continue to water without cal/mag and let some drain out.

Grow4ever Happy New Year! 🎆 After a week away, I came back today to these really nice dense bushes and already somewhat developed buds, the watering went great. However, I immediately noticed a pest infestation, impossible to miss... Accordingly, I started defoliating afterwards, we're on day 20 of flowering. Especially with the GSC, as the infestation originated from her. I ordered some predatory mites today and I hope that with the heavy defoliation, the three will still make it through flowering well.

Grow4ever Flowering is progressing. The predatory mites Amblyseius (Neoseiulus) cucumeris arrived quickly 🙏 I hope they keep the thrips infestation under control until the end of flowering. So far, I can't say much about the terps, everything is very subtle. Additionally, the plants received Fermakor hydrolysate as a flowering booster for the first time in very low concentrated doses. Thanks again to @yan420 🙏 I’m expecting a metabolic boost from the direct availability of nutrients P and K and the amino acids. I'm very curious about the final results, as always!

Grow4ever The fight against the thrips is lost, even the nematodes can't keep up anymore, but I think they are definitely slowing down the infestation. The SFV OG Kush is just about ready for harvest, I think it will be ready next weekend, and then I'll give the Girl Scout Cookies and Chocolate Mint OG some more time. The Chocolate Mint OG has been reacting more strongly to nutrient issues from the start, and right now it's lightening up a bit at the top. Its scent is increasing, and the minty note is coming through, really nice.

Grow4ever The Chocolate Mint is probably going to be the best plant of the grow, less thrips infestation, minty scent, and really nice buds!
