Germination

Ganjin Hey my friends, welcome to this new (hopefully not cursed 🗣️) diary! 🌱 I have a lot to talk about. Let's start with the strain: Jelly Donutz by Humboldt Seed Company. The breeder needs no indroduction, they're probably the breeders with the most stable cali genetics in seed format because of their unmatched pheno hunt possibilities. I have many strains from them on my list but wanted to start with a true candy strain which name instantly cought my attention. Jelly Donutz is a proper runtz genetic. No fake, the real deal since it came from the real white runtz clone. You can read up the whole story of this strain on Humboldts website and if this does not catch your eyes, I don't know what will. Nice part: One plant actually came and I want to tell thje story about it. But the very nice part is that I treated myself with a new toy! The VGrow smart grow box from Vivosun. I had this bad boy on my eyes for quite some time now and since I want to have a mother plant in the far future I actually needed a second tent but without all the occupied space that comes with it. And the VGrow is just a perfect accessory. Now the sad part: I germinated a seed, which came after like 2 days. I planted it in a solo cup with BioBizz Peat Free LightMix but it did not survive (see first week of veg, I will post photos there). It got kind of the same problems as the Blue Zushis, even tho I only watered with water with the right CalMag ratio. So I germinated another seed which you can see on the pictures. This seed needed longer, 3 days which is just too long for the glass of water method so it grew a little bit of mold on the shell but it opened up slightly. So I wanted to save it and stop losing seeds. It dipped the seed in 1% hydrogen peroxide solution to kill some spores but to not damage the cells of the seedling. After 10s I flushed with water and put it in the paper tower where it germinated properly. I put the seedling into a new solo cup with Peat Free Light mix (sike..) and watered only a little bit to not dry the seed out but to also not let it mold completely. And by wonders, the seedling actually came trough the soil. But I have been to that point with the first seed so I wasn't ready to document it. But I made photos of the first seed in that state which you can see on this germination week. They look the same so that'll do it. Much stress, I know but that's how it is for me this season. And it doesn't end there..

Ganjin In this week I need to elaborate A LOT. So like I said, I germinated a first seed and planted it in a solo cup. That's the first 4 pictures. But it stopped growing after like 3 days again, the stem started to get red and the leafs started to become yellow. Eventually I stopped taking pictures because I was so mad and demotivated by everything going wrong this season. I watered properly but realised that the soil was moist suspiciously long, especially for a solo cup that only gets 100 mL per feeding. So her dying wasn't documented but let me tell you that she was basicially completly yellow at that point. That was a time frame of more than 2 weeks! The good thing is that a second seed germinated, even if that was a struggle itself (see germination week). I got it out of soil in a solo cup but same story (that's why I have no pictures): It looked healthy at the beginning but stopped growing after 3 days. The leafs started to die again, as you can see in the 5th picture which is the actual still living plant. So I made a radical decision with a radical opinion: It's got to be the Peat Free mix since it's literally the only left variable that I changed this season. I had a sucess rate of 100% during 8 grows and this is the first time I am using that and boom, nothing works anymore. (Sad part is that I mixed some of it into the IUC and Cookie Casket pots, maybe that's also why they're the ugliest plants ever) Decision: Remove the solo cup, remove approx. 70 % of the "soil" (more like wood) from the seedling and his roots and plant it directly into the 3 gal end pot with NORMAL all mix. That's what I did in a last effort to not lose another seedling and what should I say... It fucking worked. ☀️ // Day 7 🌱 This is not the real day 7 of her but that's approximately the age that a seedling has in her growth stage. It came out of ground on 25th of october, grew until 28th of october and stopped growing until I repotted it on 06th of november. Just 9 days of no growth and probably dying. But she responded to the repotting literally in only 24h. And on 8th of november, where the picture is made, she actually started to grow again and straigthen her leafs. She is technically on day 11 but because of the struggles in the Peat Free mix, she has only the growth of a 7 day old plant. So from now on, it's her 7th day and I keep the count for people who want to compare their seedlings to mine. Because normally, on real day 11, she would be much further. I gave her 250 mL of water with root juice and 0,2g/L epsom salt for the repotting. 💦 Watering: 250 mL with pH = 6.4 💊 Fertilizer: Root juice, epsom salt and Mycotrex for the transplant. 💡 Light: 150-200 PPFD at 25%

Ganjin ☀️ // Day 8-14 🌱 The soil went dry pretty quickly so I gave her 500 mL on day 8 with root juice and without epsom salt. I documented her growth almost every day in this week because I was so happy that she survived and finally grew further than all other seedling while looking more and more healthy day after day. She got 1L of water with root juice and epsom salt again on day 11, that's a hell of a difference in drinking compared to the Peat Free "soil" in a solo cup where 100mL stayed in for a week. So I also increased the VGrow lights from 25 % power to 50 % because she can handle more light now. I also changed the spectrum from seedling to vegetative stage. 💦 Watering: 500 mL and 1 L with pH = 6.3 💊 Fertilizer: Root juice, epsom salt 💡 Light: 250 PPFD at 50%

Ganjin ☀️ // Day 15-19 🌱 I almost forgot that you can have fun with plants! She is growing nicely everyday, it's so beautiful. I just documented her less because I am confident that she does not die soon. The soil was already bone dry on day 17. So I gave her 2 L and for the first time used BioGrow and Silic Rock as fertilizer. No epsom salt but I will change my plan and give it in every future watering since it doesn't make sense to give less Mg with my water, which has a CalMag ratio of 11:1 and is very hard. So I will give 0.2 g/L epsom salt with every feeding from now on. On day 19 I just photographed her to show how much progress she made and how big she looks in the VGrow, especially compared to the first weeks. The side branches are also coming through. 💦 Watering: 2 L with pH = 6.4 💊 Fertilizer: BioGrow, Silic Rock 💡 Light: 250 PPFD at 50%

Ganjin ☀️ // Day 22 🌱 Today is an important day. She made beautiful progress so I decided to top the plant today while also removing the lowest side branches since they tent to keep beeing the smallest and thinnest anyway. I want 6 main branches so it was the perfect timing for it. I am very happy with the training of the Iced Up Cherries and Cookie Casket plants in the other diaries (that's quite the only thing I am happy about in that grows lol), that's why I want to do it in a similar way here. Let's look how she responds to it but she is very healthy so I think she will tank it easily. She also got 2L of water today, with fertilizer and epsom salt again. I will continue with epsom salt in all future waterings so I will stop to mention it until something changes again. Thanks for the positive resonance on this diary, I am glad everyone is fired up when it comes to Humboldt seeds. Happy sunday and I wish you an amazing week! 💦 Watering: 2 L with pH = 6.3 💊 Fertilizer: BioGrow, Silic Rock, Epsom salt 💡 Light: 350 PPFD at 65% ☀️ // Day 23 🌱 Just a small update on her with pictures. I removed the top fan leafs to deliver more light to the side branches. The side branches already made a jump since yesterday which you can see in the pictures. Good response as of now. I know, she looks a little bit sad now and it's always heartbreaking to remove perfectly healthy leafs but topping is just so beneficial for the vigor and growth pattern of the plant, you just need to do it.

Sehr gute Wahl.
