The buds have been curing for a little bit more than two weeks, so I gave it a first try. I have to admit I am a bit disappointed by the smell and the taste. It is almost non-existant. After two weeks, the others all had a much more intense, concise aroma. The effect is ok, very similar to Big Bud: A mellow body buzz you can feel with every breath and uplifting effect on the mood. Makes you feel relaxed and peaceful. Taste has nothing special, just the well known typical skunk. This is fine for me, I do not need exotic, fancy aromas but love the classic taste. It could be stronger, though.
Growing her was extremely easy. She always was healthy and never complained. And she provided more flowers than I would have expected from the whole grow. Definitely recommended, especially for beginners. You cannot do anything wrong with this strain. Despite being extremely dense (I failed miserably on defoliation), she did not catch any mold unlike her companion.
So overall this is currently 7/10 for me. Quantity is excellent, but I rate quality over quantity.
She needed more time to grow than the others, so maybe she also requires more time for curing. So in case the aroma improves when fully cured, I might upgrade the rating. I expect to know the truth around christmas. By then I will also have tested the exotic white buds ๐
After almost three months of curing I urgently need to bump the rating to 9/10. It's unbelievable how this has improved. Both smell and taste have increased substantially and also the effect has become even better. It is now stronger on the head without being narcotic. And I never feel sleepy on the next day even when smoking a bit more. It is almost as great as the Shiva.
Shit. For some reason I cannot alter the rating anymore. So the 7/10 is no longer correct.
Super Skunk was harvested on day 95. Buds are even bigger than the ones of Big Bud. Just for fun I weighed the main bud and it came out as 82 Gramm wet (it was already drying for some hours at that time).
Now I just hope I do not lose something to mold. Weather is relatively cool and rainy, so RH is very high (around 80%). So I decided to switch on the dehumidifier; with all lights off, there are no temperature problems anymore.
Update: For illustration of the drying process I added some pictures taken at an interval of 1 day. It nicely shows that in the first hours the main cola is losing big amounts of water and thus weight. This process is slowing down more and more and when there is no noticable loss in weight anymore, they are ready for going into jars. The dehumidifier keeps RH at 55% and temperatures at 26ยฐC, so the drying goes quite fast. Probably they are ready for curing in only five days.
After five days of drying there is almost no weight loss anymore and a tiny amount of humidity is needed for a good cure. So I cut them from the stems today. I decided to treat them as two different plants: The hard top buds and the fluffy lower ones will be cured separately. Yield was 41.72 gramm for the fluffy stuff and 209.63 for the "good" buds.
Grand total for the whole grow:
Shiva Skunk: 81 g
Hindu Kush: 122 g
Big Bud: 140 g
Super Skunk: 251 g
=======================
Total: 594 g
That is 1.9 g/W and 825 g/mยฒ
Smoke report to follow...
Am I right that the brown spots on one of the plants are an indication of calcium and/or magnesium deficiency? I ordered some CalMag Extra from Advanced Nutrients; should arrive soon. Would/should I apply this only one time or add to the regular feeding schedule?
Hi @Buddha2! Yes it seems so. You can add a slight dose of Cal/Mag in every waterings, until the issue is solved. In order to prevent such issue to appear, next time add Cal/Mag once a week into your feedings. Hope this will help, happy growing!
Does anybody know what the white tops are? Can be seen clearly on pictures 14 and 19 of week 13. I thought it might be light burn maybe, but it looks too healthy. I also noticed that they start to turn green after some days. Just being curious...
This phenomenon happens sometimes under led. It is not light burn or bleaching as a lot of people claim. They havent figured out why it happens but the white buds have been tested. They have a much higher thc and terpine content than the rest of the plant. So in other words you are a lucky mofo! Lol Enjoy them.
Hey man.
I'll be starting my first grow in a week or so, in very similar conditions so your journal has been a real help and inspiration.
I have a 100x100x180 tent and, dispite the space problems you had, I'm still gonna try to grow 4 plants. I hope I don't regret it.
Kudos to you for the way you solved the problems that you had. I hope I can do the same.
Thank you and happy growing!
@SommPT, thanks! I think four plants sounds perfect for your tent. It is bigger than mine and should fit fine for your setup. And I would not call it "problems" when plants grow bigger than expected ๐
@Buddha2, after reading through loads of grows I was hoping for about 10-15g per plant worst case scenario with it being first grow and hopefully looking like I might surpass it?
But wow that superskunk is a beast and I'm definitely going to try that! If I get 1/2 of what you did I'll be delighted ๐
@Cheezy_G, indeed, I almost cannot believe it! My goal was 200g (50g per plant) with the secret hope to reach 300g. And now it's almost double the amount! (about 4g sacrificed to the evil god of mold). I must be dreaming...
Interesting about the difference between the two types of soil...just out of curiosity, are they the same declared PH? And has the cheap one also nutrients included?
Anyway, your plants look really nice and healthy - good luck with the grow! ๐
@Buddha2, ok, I see...I was just wondering if there is any major difference in the declared properties because the diff between the plants is really huge.
Just FYI, each package of any commercially sold soil should contain info about approximate PH levels (like interval of 6-7) or at least as far as I could see, they had the info on the package.
Cheers and happy growing mate! ๐
@Butrus, I do not know very much about this cheap soil; it is some standard stuff from the garden center for tomatoes and herbs. It is probably only slightly prefertilized if at all, whereas the BioBizz Allmix is heavily fertilized. I also never in my life measured any pH or EC values. I was expecting so see some difference, but I would not have thought that it is that drastic. Anyway, my plants seem to love this soil, so I'm quite happy. Thanks!
Hey, I read where you are looking for something different for your feeding.
I use botanicare cal mag plus and it has been a game changer for me.
While in veg I use that with Alaska organic fish nutrients and have had no problems since (b4 this I used fox farm and stayed with ugly deficiencies and horrible yields).
As she went into flower I switched to advanced nutrients big bud and bud candy organic which I LOVE combined with flower fuel bud builder (which is good to start in veg).
My current grow is the first I've had with all happy green plants rather than the yellow and brown leaves we always experienced in the past.
Your tent is beautiful
@MomnPoppaSeed, thanks! I'm only looking for an organic alternative to the CaliMagic I have been using. In general I was very happy how BioBizz has worked for me. It is just one plant again in my new grow that shows those symptoms. I'm not really convinced it is Calcium deficiency, though.
