DerFredlFesl Today I defoliated for the first time after the time change and bent them down a bit. Tomorrow, the net will be hung in the tent. Since I'm using Biotabs in this run, I'll start feeding a bit in the second week of flowering.

DerFredlFesl 14.12 Day 11 after the time change, no signs of starting to flower. The two are growing so bushy that I was unfortunately forced to cut off a few leaves, didn’t want to stress them anymore before flowering. But I don’t think wet leaves are something I want in the tent. 20.12 first white hairs, tomorrow will be set to week one of flowering.

A quick question for the Autopot users. I'm currently using 20L pots filled with 15L of substrate in my 70x70x160 tent. I have the feeling that the two pots have gotten a bit too big. Should I switch to 3x 5L pots for the next run or 2x 8.5L? H

Hello mate, I think that this choice depends by how long you made the vegetation phase. If you like have your harvest more rapidly you could use the 8.5L pot with a faster veg phase ( for example anly 2 or 3 weeks), you'll have plants big enough for your room. So the pot choice depends by differents necessity, i tip one of the master rules for growing every plant: "much is not always better". Good luck and happy journey!

DerFredlFesl 21.12 Star of flowering I won't do anything until 1.1 and will let them grow in peace. In the new year, I'll do some serious defoliation! 24.12.25: I did some serious defoliation and tied a few shoots to the side. Humidity has dropped significantly, I will wait until 30.12 and then remove all the small shoots and buds. 27.12 turned the lamp up to 100%.

DerFredlFesl Trichomes are slowly turning milky, and the room smells like a coffee shop in Amsterdam after opening the tent 😮. Both also have a slightly different smell, so I'm really looking forward to the final result. 23.1: tips are turning brown, I'll keep an eye on that over the next few days. Sunday the 25.1 would be the last time to fertilize according to the schedule.

DerFredlFesl I think I have a slight calcium problem. I'm going to water with a dose of calmag from above today. The leaves are turning light to slightly yellow in some spots. Since the indicated harvest time is in just under two weeks, I think these are completely normal symptoms. The time change was on December 3, 2025. The trichomes are all milky, and the first slight browning ones are starting to show.

How do you calculate the start of flowering? Do you count from the day of the time change or from the day you see the first white hairs?

After the first long dark cycle it's in flower. Once a particular hormone produced in the dark has enough time to accumulate to sufficient levels, it's a 'switch' inside the plant. This is 100% about length of uninterrupted darkness, hence the importance not to have light leaks in flower phase. 10+ hours has teh potential to start flower. There is some variation as to how much any 1 plant needs to enter flower, which is why people use 12/12 - it safely covers all related genetic variety.

DerFredlFesl I have the feeling the right one is a bit faster maturing for the harvest (2.2.26 Day 61 after time change) I should have gotten the calmag problem under control. But now, with just about 10 days before the harvest, I won't be doing anything major. 6.2.2026 the right side will be harvested on Sunday, I think I have something quite special there. The seed apparently had a few too many chromosomes. The internet says it would be a polyploid cannabis plant.

DerFredlFesl Everything worked smoothly. I can only recommend the setup with Biotabs and Autopots to anyone who doesn't want to water every other day. I'm looking forward to starting the next grow here in a few months.

This question is actually already about my next grow. I want to take a short break this spring and start again at Easter. I have a huge window on the south side and would love to set up a really nice big bed on the windowsill. Of course, I want to...

Ultraviolet
Ultravioletanswered grow question 6mo ago
UV light is not mandatory, very few indoor grows use any actual UVB. The photoreceptor UVR8 peak absorption occurs at 280-290nm with 90+% response occurring between those wavelengths. 90% of uv lights that claim they are UVB are actually 290-310nm and therefore about 10x less srress response than a fluorescent quartz at 280-290nm. But shhhh its a secret. UVB cannot pass through standard plastic nor glass, only quartz glass. UVA on the other hand 40-70% passes through glass and plastic and creates alot of reactive oxygen species in doing so. You do not need UVB for a plant to grow, but UVB is generally responsible for the "stress-induced" quality boosts (potency, defense mechanisms). Having only high UVA is not useless, but it won't produce the same, high-potency, defensive reactions as a balanced UV mix, and too much will just cause burn and stress. Infrared (IR) radiation—experienced as intense heat—is arguably the biggest stealth killer and stressor for windowsill plants, often more damaging than too much light. 45% of all light from sun is IR. Save the money and skip the 65w useless light, and invest in a small fan to keep her 😎 while she chills on the windows. The idea that windows grows yield is affected by UV is innacurate and misleading.

Regarding your question about pot sizes. I've had great success with an 8L pot in a 40x40, so I recommend not using more than 12L per lady. Just for the sake of biomass, the high humidity can become a problem. Otherwise, they will either blow up your tent or grow too tall.

DerFredlFesl commented8mo ago
@Stony_German, awesome! I'm currently considering whether to go for 4x 5L or 3x 5L pots. I've seen that they also have them from Autopot, which I find really chill, and I would have a greater variety in the tent.
