The_Wanderer Exploring true medical cultivars from the ancient world, we journey now to the lush tropics for a time-tested cultivar trusted over millennia. This cultivar has witnessed the dawn of civilizations and shaped spiritual enlightenment in the Indian subcontinent. This IBL comes from the Idukki district in Kerala, southern India, along the Western Ghats mountain range. It has been part of the indigenous peoples' economy, spiritual practice, and used for medical purposes as documented in ancient texts. In the Vedic tradition, as per the Atharva Veda (1500-1000 BCE), it is revered as one of the five sacred plants, known as Vijaya, which releases humanity from distress and anxiety, bestows happiness, and is used in rituals. Ayurvedic medicine, drawing from texts like the Sushruta Samhita (~ 600 BCE) and Charaka Samhita, employs it for alleviating indigestion, chronic pain, inflammation, skin ailments, and to stimulate appetite and digestion, often as a sedative or analgesic in holistic healing. Mentioned in Rig Veda, Atharva Veda, Ayurveda and many other ancient Hindu texts. Some of the uses of Bhang that ancient Hindu scientists discovered thousands of years ago are: Dyspepsia, Nervous disorders, Severe pain, Insomania, Dysentery, Gonorrhoea, Loss of appetite because of illness and even poisoning. According to the ancient texts, Bhang is one of the most effective, natural medicines available to mankind. It has known to be the cure for many nervous disorders, skin diseases and wounds. A unique and potent high THC cultivar that stands apart in its pure expression. A testament to millennia of farmers that knew their craft. The flavor of tropical herbs and incense is immediate, followed by a light taste of carrot. Known for its world famous ganja, potency, and uplifting effect. Drawing from its Vedic roots, it aids in spiritual rituals for mental clarity and protection against malevolent energies, while Ayurvedic applications make it effective medicine and as a powerful aid for overall vitality among several other uses. This sample is from an exclusive seed archive and was collected before the 1970s and is no longer available. Beware the deceptive offerings masquerading as "Kerala" cannabis in today's market, peddled to the unwise by opportunistic sellers. Often locally grown impure domesticates, they bear no resemblance to the pure, time-honored Vijaya of the Western Ghats, diluted by decades of crossbreeding that prioritizes commercial traits over medicinal integrity and spiritual depth. True seekers recognize the difference. These fakes erode the legacy, commonality without the profound healing rooted in millennia of tradition.

The_Wanderer A unique plant. Soft green color and soft green stems that are highly flexible. I can bend the top of the plants down in an arc to soil level with hardly any resistance and it just springs back up. Unusual. Hard to explain... it's almost like a gummi plant. Grows very fast, and just has an interesting structure. Just after this picture I moved them to the flowering area. So this marks the end of vegetative stage.

The_Wanderer Flowering sites are everywhere. These have outgrown their space already 2 weeks after pre-flowering ended. I'm going to have to use a trellis to try to manage them. These want to be giants.

The_Wanderer These plants got huge fast. Giants! 2 females are too much. 1 female needs the entire space or humidity can be a problem. After initially bringing the trellis down, I spent time cutting out every other section until it started to get more orderly, just holding branches and trying to keep these off the walls. I already did LST bringing the top down then arcing around. Without the trellis, I would be quickly out of space. There is only 2 meters inside the Growbox and it's just not enough.

The_Wanderer At this point I realize it's not going to get easier. I try these indoors because I need to know what to tell people when they ask. To grow 2 of these I would say a minimum of 120 x 120 cm footprint is needed, and a height of 250 cm or so. Difficulty? Well it's not a beginner plant. This needs experienced growers, that are ready to respond. Using a larger space would make this much easier. I believe the average home hobby grower would find this challenging. There is not a whole lot of leaves, just a crazy amount of inflorescences on a plant that's growing form is tall and wide. As you can see a lot of training was done. These will stress each other out fighting for space. I'm going to let then flower a little longer, and then harvest one early to be used in cooking recipes and my favorite cannabis drink bhang chai. So there is no waste. Just an early harvest while the other gets the space to donuts thing. No complaints, just adapting to what is.

The_Wanderer So down to one plant now which has filled the entire space. Luckily it has reached terminal flowering and isn't creating more stem. The early harvested plant has been drying. Still a nice smoke because I was just curious. She gave me a lot of medicine for the food and drinks, and I am grateful. The remaining plant has matured its seeds. Crossed with the IBL Mazar cultivar, and a Bred line heirloom from Pakistan... these seeds are going to be amazing. When 2 stable and true breeding lines that are genetically different are crossed together the offspring is the first generation of a hybrid and can exhibit a steady 50/50 mix of parents resulting in a rather uniform crop, but not always. In plant breeding we call that an F1-Hybrid. This results in heterosis sometimes called hybrid vigor. These F1-hybrids are known to be better performing than either parental line. More potent, more vigorous, faster growing, larger yield, more flavor. That's why the F1-hybrid seeds at the garden center for flowers or vegetables cost the most. It's the pinnacle of plant breeding, and is the most desired. 2 stable parental lines have to be cared for and crossed together to make the F1-Hybrid seed which naturally drives up cost, and they perform the best. The best is never cheap. Gardeners that use F1-Hybrids often do not breed them further but rather buy new F1-Hybrid seed. The subsequent generations retain some of the vigor, but the recombination of dna results in plants with increased unwanted variation. If one is dedicated and patient sometimes nice combinations show up in the subsequent generations with nuanced flavors and effects which can then be bred to lock in these traits over several more generations, generally 6 or 7 generations is needed to stabilize the special hybrid finds. So the seeds she has given me will be some really amazing plants.

What is the difference between "pollen chucking" (as it is generally known by), and good plant breeding?

Hey buddy hope all is great my friend Pollen 🙏 Pollen chucking is simply making seeds by crossing plants without a clear goal, selection process, or follow-up—often just “this plant had pollen, let’s see what happens.” Good plant breeding is intentional: you start with a goal (traits you want), select parents carefully, make controlled crosses, grow out and evaluate the offspring, then select again over generations for stability, vigor, and expression. In short: pollen chucking makes seeds; breeding develops plants. Growers Love my friend hope this helps 👊👊👊

The_Wanderer She did well. Interestingly, the 2 different males resulted in 2 different seed sizes. Adjacent branches on this plant were pollinated on the same day, same position on the plant. (Something for you to think about.) Kerala seeds are very small. She shrank the Mazar seed, but the Pakistani seed size remained seemingly unchanged. Both F1-Hybrid seeds larger than the Kerala seeds.

The_Wanderer One plant hanging upside down here and it's been drying and it turns to gold. Kerala Gold is made. I dont weigh or measure, I'm not interested. It is what it is, and I'm happy to recieve the gifts of this truly amazing and unique plant from our ancestors. Something worth noting is that before harvesting I stripped off only a few remaining big fan leaves. I have a branch cut off laying next to a plate. The next picture is the tiny amount of trim that came off of it. Branch by branch the jar filled and it's no small jar. That filled jar resulted in that small amount of trim on the plate. There were several more branches to go after filling that jar, but it went very fast in comparison to the usual trimming work. So its fast and easy because it's not so leafy. Saves a lot of time. Easy pleasant work. Huge yield on one plant. I smoked a little and it is very very strong. Tingle on the scalp, feels like the top of my head is effected, lit up. Scalp feels peeled back. Very pleasant and euphoric, deep, happy and beautiful thoughts. Great for activity. Complex taste. Spices, Incense, herbal, ending with interesting carrot taste in the mouth. Much more can be said.. but just not right now. Perhaps added later. This would be an impressive and unique gardening experience, even for very experienced gardeners. The power packed in that tiny seed. The growth, the yield. For the people that like this type of euphoric happy and spiritual type of high, it's an experience that shouldn't be missed and likely never topped by anything else. If you want to be absolutely jaded. Try this. Those seeds! I can't find any mention of these crosses anywhere. No records. Kerala x Mazar, Kerala x Pakistani Hashplant, true F1-Hybrids. It's a complete unknown as I have not grown them myself. Which one would you grow first if you had to pick? Or would you run them side by side? Its wild to think about. True medical variety from ancient times? Yes! Not only anti inflammatory, but it seems to help with type2 diabetes and hypertension. The following is copied from a highly reputable source, Leafly. (If anyone needs the studies, ask me for them.) A 2014 study shows that ocimene derived from flowers of the Citrus Unshiu plant, a close relative of the mandarin orange, had highly effective anti-inflammatory properties. For the study, a chemical composition analysis of the essential oils of the flowers was performed via gas chromatography- mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The study revealed that ocimene made up 5.6% of the oil’s chemical constituency. The study also found supporting evidence that these oils have the potential to suppress the production of several different inflammatory substances emitted by the immune system. Further research indicates that ocimene may help treat symptoms of diabetes by inhibiting the proliferation of key enzymes. In this 2013 study, GC-MS analysis of the essential oils of black pepper seeds revealed ocimene as a key constituent. This oil was shown to have anti-oxidative properties as well as the ability to inhibit key enzymes connected to type 2 diabetes and hypertension.

What does the terpene ocimene bring to the entourage effect?

Ocimene is one of those terpenes that doesn’t get as much hype, but it quietly shapes the experience. In the entourage effect, ocimene is known for: A bright, uplifting, energetic edge Enhancing mental clarity and alertness Adding a light, mood-lifting feel rather than body heaviness It’s often described as: Sweet, herbal, sometimes tropical or floral Common in mint, basil, orchids, and certain citrusy cultivars How it plays with cannabinoids: It can amplify the stimulating side of THC, making the high feel more “heady” Helps balance out heavier terpenes like myrcene, preventing couch-lock Often associated with daytime, creative, or social effects You’ll usually find ocimene in: Sativa-leaning cultivars Strains known for clear, fast-onset highs So in short: ocimene adds lift, freshness, and mental energy to the entourage effect — more spark than sedation 🌱

Ocimene contributes to the entourage effect by enhancing the uplifting and energizing subjective experience of cannabis and potentially boosting the therapeutic properties of cannabinoids through its own anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antifungal effects. Role in the Entourage Effect Uplifting Effects: Ocimene is frequently found in sativa-dominant strains and is associated with stimulating, clear-headed, and motivating effects. In the entourage effect, it is thought to modulate the overall experience, steering the high in a more energetic direction and potentially counteracting some of the sedative effects of other compounds like myrcene. Enhanced Bioavailability (Potential): Some research suggests ocimene might increase the bioavailability or absorption of other cannabinoids and terpenes, possibly by affecting how they cross biological barriers like the blood-brain barrier, though more research is needed to confirm this. Aromatic Contribution: Ocimene has a distinct sweet, floral, and woody scent. Its unique aroma and flavor profile are a significant part of the sensory experience, which can influence user satisfaction through psychological or "psychosensory" pathways, an often overlooked aspect of the entourage effect. Potential Therapeutic Synergy While research on ocimene is still in preclinical stages, it may work synergistically with cannabinoids by providing complementary therapeutic benefits, including: Anti-inflammatory properties: It has been shown to help suppress inflammatory substances, which could enhance the pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects of cannabinoids like CBD and beta-caryophyllene. Antifungal and antiviral effects: Ocimene displays potent antifungal properties and has shown antiviral activity against certain viruses in laboratory studies, potentially adding to the overall protective and medicinal properties of the cannabis plant extract. Decongestant/Expectorant properties: Ocimene may help to clear airways and loosen mucus, which could complement other respiratory benefits found in cannabis compounds. The full potential of ocimene's contribution to the entourage effect requires further clinical trials to confirm these synergistic interactions in humans.

Overdrying can gas off a lot of those valuable terpenes we want to keep. I use a tent for that first round of drying and check it to see if its ready by a feel from experience. If asked about it, I cant transmit the experience/feel. Stem crack sound. How do you describe it best?

@Green_claws, depends on where you got it from. In theory you have it, but you have to grow it out to know what you have. Unfortunately lots of fakes out there for people that buy names and descriptions going on belief. Better to know the breeder and build a relationship based on trust to get the real things. Chitral kush, yeah I used it in some recent crosses. Its good medicine. Vert pretty plant, even the stem is pretty. Its sad that people are being ripped off so much. For example I knew the history of Thin Mint was wrong, distorted. But when I started looking at the diaries here on "GSC" i see people are recieving plants that have no relation to it at all. Doesn't look similar, doesn't have the mint taste or aroma, wrong terpene profile, etc. It gets under my skin to see innocent people being ripped off. If you grow the IBL and its not the real thing, or not an IBL, let me know and I'll advise you on where to get the real thing. Its expensive, but that's just how it is.

@The_Wanderer, we will have to see the outcome of this then, i agree about getting ripped off but when its not governed 1 seed looks like the rest no way of telling whats what. same with fertilisers.. cheers for the advice, i might take you up on that offer if my supply is crap. nice1

@Green_claws, Thats true, about looking at the seeds. One of my goals is to get this rare/disappearing stuff available to people without them having to pay the fortune I did and do. The more support and real help I get, the more this goal becomes more of a reality. Lets work together. Can I count on you? Will you put work in?

You only know that from the good old movies or documentaries. That's how it was brought back from Asia at that time. Beautiful to look at 😮‍💨😮‍💨❤️❤️ Do you have regular seeds from that?
The_Wanderer
The_Wanderer commented2mo ago
@SuiXideGhXsT, Yes, I have regular Kerala Gold IBL seeds, but they are aging and I need to have them reproduced soon. Sometime in 2026 I will have to renew it. I take care of several lines and the upkeep kind of determines what I grow 75% of the time. You are right, this is very uncommon genetics, and I'm happy to know a couple people enjoyed seeing this rare treasure that will likely vanish forever soon. As people favor the amalgamation hybrids and give their support to that, no longer caring about the ancient ones, we may be some of the last to see it and use it. I also used that female here to make a couple different first generation of hybrid by breeding it with males from 2 stable indica lines. Crosses that nobody has seen before. Or ar least never been documented. So 50/50 indica sativa F1-hybrids. I also did S1 seeds on a Kerala female by request, but the guy never paid me. So I'm sitting on 60 or so S1 seeds that I personally don't want and won't grow.
