GerHardGrows Plant Name: Michaela Banana
I planted a Fat Banana Auto by RQS in the same soil and setup as a Purple Punch Auto by Barneys Farm, and it sprouted without any issues. The Purple Punch had germinated after 48 hours in water but refused to grow in that soil.
I’ve grown Fat Banana before, but back then it was in a tent with photoperiod plants, so the three Bananas only received 12 hours of light during flowering. That wasn’t a huge problem, though one of them actually hermed. I’ve always wondered how this strain would perform under optimal conditions, because the terpenes are some of the best I’ve ever smelled. Two of the previous plants smelled like ripe bananas, honey, and tropical fruits, while the third had an even stronger scent reminiscent of Red Bull. That one was exceptionally tasty.

GerHardGrows She continues to progress through at first very healthy with nice growth into pre-flowering phase, with noticeable changes and some stress signs slightly appearing. The pistils start to show, but shows early stress symptoms
into the Week 6 especially in terms of
LEAF HEALTH and WATERING.
The signs of STRESS
- hanging leaves
- yellowing speckles
Potential Causes of the Speckles:
- physical stress from leaf tucking
- high light intensity
- didn't water frequent enough
- dry back too much
What do you think?
You think it's a CalMag Issue?
I added a bit of dolomite lime and rock flour,
therefore I did not use much CalMag.
Then added it once, maybe that was stupid overcompensation.
Maybe not enough CalMag,
maybe too much and Lock Out?
I stopped giving CalMag tho and just watered more in beginning of week 6, we'll see.
I had this problem in almost all of my grows so far and this time I can completely rule out a PH shift.
This manifested mainly in WEEK SIX but the very first signs are shown in this
WEEK 5.

GerHardGrows Day 37–42
After the first stress signals appeared at the end of week 5,
- week 6 became mainly about observing and trying to understand what exactly was going on. The plant had
- entered the early flowering phase and
- pistils were developing, but the previously mentioned symptoms continued:
- slightly hanging leaves
- yellow/orange speckles appearing on some fan leaves
At this stage I tried to analyze the possible causes.
One factor could be mechanical stress from leaf tucking and defoliation, since I had removed several leaves shortly before the symptoms appeared.
Another possible factor was light intensity. Around Day 32 I increased the light to 100 % (about 103 W) with around 500–580 PPFD at 30 cm distance, which might have been slightly aggressive for the plant right as it transitioned into early flower.
Watering rhythm might also have played a role. Earlier in the grow I sometimes allowed the soil to dry back quite strongly before watering again. It is possible that the plant experienced temporary stress from uneven moisture levels in the root zone.
Regarding nutrients, I also questioned whether this could be a CalMag related issue. Earlier I had added a small amount of dolomite lime and rock flour to the soil, which should normally supply calcium and magnesium slowly over time. Because of that I initially avoided adding much CalMag in liquid form.
Later I added some CalMag once, which in hindsight might have been an overreaction. This raised the question whether the issue might actually be:
- insufficient CalMag
- temporary imbalance
- or even a mild lockout
At the beginning of week 6 I decided to stop adding additional CalMag and focus on stabilizing watering, allowing the soil biology and mineral sources to balance things out naturally.
Despite the stress signals, the plant continued to grow and develop flowers, showing that the issue was not catastrophic but still something to monitor closely.
Since this pattern has appeared in several of my previous grows, I’m particularly interested in understanding the underlying cause this time.
If anyone reading this diary has experienced similar yellow speckles combined with slightly drooping leaves during early flower, I’d really appreciate your thoughts.
💚 Always happy to learn.
FULL NOTES:

GerHardGrows Day 43–49
The plant continued stretching into early flowering while the canopy remained wide thanks to the LST training setup. Multiple shoots were tied down to a wire frame attached to the tent posts, allowing light to reach most developing bud sites and keeping the structure fairly even.
However, the leaf symptoms that started during the previous week were still present. Several fan leaves continued showing yellow/orange speckles, and the leaves occasionally appeared slightly droopy. Because similar symptoms had appeared in several of my previous grows, I started investigating the root zone more closely.
After checking the runoff, I discovered a significant pH drift. The runoff measured pH 7.7, which was far higher than expected considering I had been watering at around pH 6.2–6.3.
To correct the issue I decided to perform a large flush of the substrate.
The first flush used approximately 30 liters of pH 5.0 water. After this initial flush the runoff pH had only dropped to around 7.3, which meant the medium was still strongly buffered toward the alkaline side.
The following day I performed another flush with roughly 30 liters, bringing the total amount of water used to about 60 liters for a 15 L pot. After the second flush the runoff finally stabilized at around pH 6.9.
The process took several hours and was honestly one of the most exhausting maintenance steps of the entire grow so far.
Following the flush the plant was allowed to recover and the medium was left to stabilize before continuing with normal feeding. Some lower leaves continued to yellow while parts of the upper canopy developed a slight reddish coloration along the edges and stems.
Despite the stress caused by the root zone imbalance and the heavy flushing, the plant remained vigorous and continued developing new shoots and flower sites across the trained canopy.
At this point the main focus is to let the substrate stabilize again and carefully observe how the plant responds over the next days.

GerHardGrows 24 March - Day 90
HARVEST TIME!
Wet trimming of all bigger leaves,
cut off every shoot and hung in grow tent
with the oscillating fan on Level 4 blasting upwards,
dehumidifier outside of the tent set to 50 %.
(Inside humidity doesn't go above 5% of the set humidity outside.)
Exhaust kept at Level 6.
90 DAYS was a LONG Journy with this Autoflower.
She smells very much like Red Bull and has a Banana Stem Rub smell.
Last time I grew them ONE of them had the Red Bull Smell and the other two where more like green Bananas, honey and with a tropical, fruity touch.
I just LOVE the smell. Maybe I should try the photoperiodic version at some point.
