stickylicious Start 10.01.2026: Germination of 5 seeds in Eazy Plugs 3.5x3.5cm under a Flexstar LED 100W dimmed to 25% and 24h light. The best 3 will be selected after germination and the next 2 will be removed. The Eazy Plugs have been soaked once with water from a Britta water filter. The pH level of the water has not been measured or adjusted afterwards. Then the little ladies were placed under a dome to maintain high humidity. The temperature could be higher, but the room is heated and the LED helps a bit too. I haven't measured the temperature separately. Update 14.01.2026: After almost 4 days, all seeds have germinated (germination rate 100%). So far, #1, #4 & #5 are my favorites. The root tip is already visible on all 3 favorites. #2 & #3 are lagging a bit behind. #2 doesn't have a root tip visible yet, but I really like its growth otherwise. #3 is a bit too "spindly" for me, and one cotyledon has already fallen off. I'll let them grow for a few more days and then decide which 3 can stay. Feel free to write in the comments which number you like best so far.

stickylicious January 17, 2026: All plants look healthy. The root development is still not strong enough on average for repotting. Update January 20, 2026: The root development is now strong enough for repotting. #2 seems to have a genetic defect. No further leaves are developing. #3 continues to stand out in height growth. It was repotted into 0.5L plastic cups. The substrate was mixed with 50% perlite. #2 was removed due to the genetic defect.

stickylicious 24.01.2026: The plants are developing beautifully. The light cycle has been changed from 24/0 to 20/4 to give the plants a bit of rest while still pushing them strong at the beginning. The distance to the lamp is now only about 10cm due to repotting. The ladies still seem to be handling it well. However, if I notice signs of light stress, I will rearrange the setup again before they move into the tent. Additionally, a minimal amount of dolomite lime (long-term CalMag) has been applied to the substrate and watered in. The plants were also sprayed with a 0.5% solution of the plant strengthening agent Siapton (foliar feeding). Update 29.01.2026: The root development is very good. The airy substrate and drainage layers have served well. The plants are noticeably thirstier, and it's time for repotting again. This time, 3.5-liter plastic pots will be used. The substrate will again be mixed with 50% perlite. Additionally, some mycorrhiza powder and a handful each of dolomite lime and chicken manure pellets (NPK 4-4-4) have been added to the substrate and mixed in. The goal is to further strengthen the soil life.

Hi, how many seeds did you put in?

@stickylicious, how many seeds for the competition? 3 seeds Sticky Broccoli ?

stickylicious commented7mo ago
@CRAIG971, now I understand your question 😂 So for the competition, one plant (Sticky Broccoli) is enough as far as I understand. However, in the set we received, there were 5 seeds included. In Germany, only 3 plants are allowed, so I have to choose 3 :( Theoretically, I could start with just one, but of course, I have more flexibility for the competition with 3 plants. I hope I was able to answer your question well :)
