hinterhofgrower . 🌱 : The lady came out of the soil quite quickly after 66 hours. 💧 : Soaking her for 24h in water before putting her into the soil 💡 : added 100ml dolomite lime to the soil to stabilize pH and prevent a CalMag problem 🤔 : Since my plants always have very small internodal spacing, regardless of whether they're Sativa or Indica, I want to try something new and am using this as a guide: https://youtu.be/K0cJ3w-q9vY instead of starting with dry soil direct out of the bag. I soaked the rather dry Bionova Bio Soilmix with several liters of water until it was saturated and then let it dry in the warm for a few days. This is supposed to activate the microorganisms it contains and helps prevent dry spots by distributing moisture throughout the substrate. With the humidity dome, I can set the VPD to around 0.6 while the Orange Sherbet Auto #2 (https://growdiaries.com/diaries/293660-grow-journal-by-hinterhofgrower) is still growing in the same tent. The dome also reduces the light intensity somewhat, so I'm hoping the plant will stretch more, giving the buds more room to grow.

hinterhofgrower . 📹 : Full Video on YouTube @hinterhofgrower 🌱 : Humidity dome off on day 9, Signs of CalMag deficiency? Removed the 2 lowest nodes on day 14 💧 : 1l day 10, 1l day 12, 2l day 14 💡 : Dli: 15 mol/m²/d 🤔 : The slightly twisted growth and mild interveinal chlorosis indicates a developing calcium-magnesium deficiency. Therefore, I reduced the pH to 6 to dissolve more calcium and magnesium ions from the added dolomite lime. Since it has germinated and grown quite quickly so far, I've decided to remove the two lowest nodes. This way, I don't have to remove the two large leaves above them to give the two lower nodes the same amount of light as the next two. The two large leaves are currently able to perform the most photosynthesis. Over the next few weeks, I will control the height of the central shoot through strategic defoliation and train the other shoots using low-stress training (LST).

hinterhofgrower . 📹 : Full Video on YouTube @hinterhofgrower 🌱 : soft topping on day 17+20 💧 : 2l day 19 💡 : Dli: 20 mol/m²/d 🤔 : Finally, a plant is growing with wider internodal spacing, even though it's supposed to be Indica dominant. There was the usual overwatering discussion on YouTube. The soil I'm using consists mainly of peat with added perlite. It's also not compacted. In my last grow with this soil, it settled by about 5 cm in the 20L pot. The measured soil moisture reaches about 60% when saturated, but with my current watering pattern, it only reaches a maximum of just under 30%. I think there's always enough oxygen in the soil. I did, however, wait longer before watering this time. The removal of the bottom pair of nodes was also hotly debated. In my opinion, it was exactly the right thing to do. I would have had to remove the large pair of leaves above them to give the two branches full light. I would have had to trim the next pair of branches down significantly to bring them to the same level. In my previous grows, this resulted in small, bushy plants. This meant the buds were very close together and therefore susceptible to mold. Furthermore, the lower parts weren't fully developed. This was something I wanted to prevent in this grow. No more energy needed to be invested in the small branches, allowing the plant to focus on photosynthesis with its large leaves. The result is a uniform canopy.

A YouTube viewer mentioned that this could be due to genetics in Fastbuds. So I looked at my old grows. Yes, they all have it, just not as pronounced. I think it was due to underwatering. The leaves were papery. My Soil is peat moss heavy. Whatever it is, it doesn't seem to bother her. On day 28 I poked my finger into the soil at different moisture levels and noticed that fewer or no roots had grown in the drier areas compared to the moister ones. The roots are essentially performing air pruning. However, I want roots to grow in the less moist areas of the pot as well. For this, moist soil is necessary. The plant can only perform air pruning once its roots have filled the pot.

To control the plant's height and ensure all flowers receive equal light, I used the Kushman Chiropractic technique. This involves softening branches by applying gentle pressure between the fingers, making them easier to bend. It also increases the plant's activity as it tries to strengthen the bruised area. A little LST (low stress training) and, of course, defoliation were also part of the process.

There's only 20cm of space left above the lamp, and I expect further growth. Supercropping involves first softening the branches between the fingers and then carefully bending them 90°.

Week 14. Harvest
24d ago
Happy Harvest Day!
Rated
10/10
Rated
Right from germination, Tropicana Cookies demonstrated a very aggressive growth rate—a characteristic that was subsequently confirmed during the vegetative phase. By employing sometimes aggressive techniques, such as supercropping, I was able to keep her growth under control, ultimately leaving me with a vertical clearance of 10 cm to spare. Consequently, I could have applied my training methods somewhat less restrictively in order to fully utilize the available vertical space. While this might have yielded a slightly larger harvest, my dried yield of 183g already far exceeded the legal limit permitted in Germany, necessitating the disposal of 130g in the organic waste bin. At 508 g/m², this plant reached the upper limit of what the manufacturer specifies in their description.
