Seeds into water for 24 hours, then onto kitchen paper soaked with water for a couple of days. Have germinated a total of 8 seeds, 6 for a couple of friends and 2 for myself. The 2 strains selected in this grow will be grown indoors on a budget setup costing around £250-300.
Using tap water and no feed for week 1.
The Auto AK is loving life, handling a slightly over eager first time grower well! The West Coast OG is a little behind, seems a bit more sensitive to pH imbalance and has also suffered from a touch of nute burn 😕 rookie error! Did feed both with some seaweed and 6.0-6.5 pH water. They can't grow quick enough 😂
This last week the girls got a feed.
The AK has so far been a pleasure to grow for a noobie, started LST on day 20 and she's responded well.
As for the West Coast OG, still a little behind, however the new growth looks promising. With a bit of luck she'll have a growth spurt soon and we'll be able to start some training. Think there might be a bit of magnesium deficiency, got some cal-mag on order. Should be here in time for the next feed.
Really looking forward to watching them grow over the next couple of weeks!
An interesting week. Thought I had a magnesium deficiency. To ensure it was, I decided to test the run-off pH. This was below 6.0 leading to a magnesium deficiency. To rectify, I flushed with pH 7 water and then
fed with pH 7 water and nutes. This has definitely caused some stress to the plants, however plants are recovering and the training is continuing. I'm enjoying the process of LST and the AK is responding well to it. The West Coast has always been a bit behind, due to first grow mistakes. This definitely won't be my last grow!
Overall the girls are doing better this week. I'll start with the West Coast. Feel like I haven't done this strain any justice, so when I have some more experience I'll run this strain again. Going to see the grow through as it can only add to my knowledge! Have continued to train her to see if she has much response. A slow drinker, only having to water every 5/6 days.
The AK is slightly different affair. She appears to be growing well and is even starting to flower. I am quite excited to see how many tops will grow, I am sure there will be at least 5. I have germinated another AK to follow through, see if I can make improvements to my grows. She sure does look beautiful. This lady has got a little thirstier see she has moved into flowering.
Fed both plants with seaweed to keep things simple. Will look to use some bloom on the AK now she's flowering.
Really enjoying the whole experience of growing your own cannabis. 💪😁
Am going away for most of the week. Have setup a dripper to water the AK in a couple of days to carry her over until a friend checks in on them a couple days after. Will miss the girls, hoping to see some good growth when I return.
Happy growing 🙌
This week the ladies experienced some fairly hot weather which led to the tent heating up to 36 Celsius, which has caused more stress. As I was away, I had a friend check in on them on day 39. The West Coast received a watering. Then both were fed with seaweed. Have ordered some biobizz as they seem to be getting a bit hungry.
Didn't have many photos due to being away and friend only took one, so have added in a few from Day 43 to show growth.
This week has been steady, both girls appear to be happier now temperatures have dropped slightly. The arrival of BioBizz nutrients has meant both ladies have had a good feed and are getting thirstier!
Have also continued to some low stress training to make sure all the bud locations are getting sufficient light and air. The AK looks like a monster next to the West Coast! I've counted 10+ potential tops on the AK and about 4 on the West Coast. Happy with the progress.
Overall, I think I've been victim to overwatering. Got to learn from your mistakes and it can only get better!
This week felt quite slow not much growth, however the bud sites were developing quite nicely. Also water uptake slowed. Ended up waiting 5 days from the last watering to next feed. The previous feed appeared to be liked by both girls so decided to up the nutrients a bit. Will see what affect that has, hopefully they like it!
Also ordered an new light which will hopefully arrive next week! Excited to move away from the blurple.
New light this week! Not sure what I should expect. I fed the girls early on, but think the feed levels were too strong as they showed signs of pH imbalance again. Flushed them with water, tested pH, low and behold pH too low. After flushing fed with a lighter nutrient mix, which they have both enjoyed since. By the end of the week, it's obvious these girls like the new light. It's promoted some new growth and more bud sites, which will hopefully increase the overall yield.
Going to be fun watching them fatten up over the next couple of weeks or so.
Pretty easy going week. I appear to be understanding the plants needs a little bit more and they are reacting well to it. I was away for the last few days of this week and was happy to return to slightly larger buds.
Both girls are smelling beautiful! The bud sites are looking good. The AK is slightly ahead and at a guess think she has another 2 or 3 weeks till harvest. I feel like the West Coast will be slightly longer.
Am giving the AK a half feed instead of watering as she seems a big hungry.
Hoping the buds swell up some more before they are ready to harvest!
Not a lot to report this week, really waiting on the trichomes to develop and the buds to swell. Got a microscope arriving soon, which should make things easier than the jewellers loupe.
Ladies are coming up to the last stages of flower, so will finish them only using water. Both have started to fade. Still waiting for the trichomes to start changing to amber. Hopefully, harvest next week!
Really enjoyed growing this Auto AK. Despite the many mistakes I made she still managed to yield just over an ounce. Hopefully next time round I'll be able to improve the yield and stress the plant less.
The effects - I find this strain an ideal evening smoke to wind down at the end of the day and to prepare you for bed! A touch of dry mouth, despite this being a negative effect, I like that this makes me drink lots of water! When toking this strain is smooth and hits quite quickly.
I messed up with this strain, stressed out early on due to rookie errors. However, despite the mistakes this strain produces an amazing smoke! Citrus and gassy, leads to a really clear headed, happy/giggly and energetic high. I will definitely be growing this strain again!
