KobraCut This is what the cuttings looked like after arriving and being potted. In the first few days, there was a recommendation from the breeder for 70-100 μmol/m/s for acclimatization.

KobraCut The cuttings arrived 9 days ago and still seem to be having trouble settling in. As a beginner, I surely didn't do everything right, but I hope they can move into the bed during the week. The plan: Right now, the pots have lost about 2/3 of the weight they had after the first and only watering. When the pots still have around 50% of their weight after watering, they should move to the 80-liter bed. In the meantime, they are getting just under 200 μmol/m/s.

KobraCut A week has passed and both plants seem to be managing despite overwatering. The Blumat Digital value has at least climbed from 30 (!) to 64mbar. I hope it will quickly develop towards 100mbar now. The London Marker is eager for the big pot; I think I’ve somewhat slowed its growth with early topping and cutting off 3-4 leaves. The Petrus is still very delicate. My gut tells me it will grow a bit more in the next 2 weeks. I can't quite assess what the "unhealthy" leaves at the bottom mean. Root rot can't be ruled out; I hope this problem might be handled by my earthworms. Both plants have received foliar spray twice: MG (too little MG in the watering) and EM01 microorganisms I'm trying my hand at training the plants for the first time; it's not so easy with the altered structure of cuttings. That's why, as you can see, I'm still being very cautious :) Otherwise, it’s now about staying patient and hoping that growth can begin.

KobraCut (The white on the leaves is water deposits from foliar spraying) The London Marker (on the left) is now growing really well. One of the branches is hanging a bit from removing an LST clip, but it will straighten up again. The Petrus is still delicate and isn't really thriving. The plan is actually to go into flowering in 10-14 days, but the Petrus isn't ready for that yet. Still hoping for a comeback… How would you proceed? Just keep topping the London Marker and wait to see if the Petrus catches up?

KobraCut Unfortunately, the LM has a slight case of powdery mildew…. First, I defoliated and removed the more affected leaves. You can also see the infestation a bit in the video. But I will keep trying and now I'm going to use sulfur against it. Tips are welcome. The positive: The Petrus has also caught up and is growing vigorously.

KobraCut The vegetative phase was extended due to powdery mildew. I've sprayed with net sulfur once so far, but I'll probably spray again. Next spray will be with Purolyt because the sulfur creates an extreme amount of "dirt." The London Marker was topped again at the highest shoots to bring everything to approximately the same height. In between, the bed got a bit too dry, so I added EM1 and agar juice a week ago to activate the soil life. I'll send them into flowering next week.

KobraCut Had to remove leaves because it got way too much. So far, no strong stretch with either plant.

KobraCut Everything is going just as I imagined. The only problem is too many shoots due to the topping, especially with the London Marker, which makes it quite cramped. That's why I also pruned during the flowering stage. I'm trying to hold off for at least another 7 days and just let it grow before doing a radical defoliation.

Hey, I hope the plants make it! A lot of beginners are a bit too generous when it comes to watering, because drooping leaves can also signal overwatering, which would align with the 30mbar from the Blumat tensiometer. How much have you watered so far? /Tim

KobraCut commented5mo ago
@Sonnenerde, I repotted the plants yesterday and then "watered" them with 5 liters (but I had already watered the soil once before repotting, which I didn't consider). Then, 24 hours later, the value 31 was displayed on my Blumat Digital. I should mention that I only put it in the bed the day before yesterday. Before, the plants were in 1.7-liter pots. There, I watered them once, as recommended by the breeder, with 5% of the pot volume. That was too little; one plant tipped over (but it came with significantly weaker roots anyway). I got the tip from forums to water again. I did that with about 0.6 liters per pot. The plant was doing better after a day. Since then, I haven't watered anymore so the roots can breathe. There has also been some growth. And then, as described, I repotted because the development, especially with the smaller plant, stagnated. I won't be watering for the time being and hope that the plants feel good in the 75-liter pot :)

@KobraCut, feel free to check out https://www.sonnenerde.at/de/faqs, my colleague Luke has answered many questions about the application of our soils there with a lot of love and know-how, maybe that will help you out? PS: Plants clearly show dehydrated leaves before they tip over. 30mbar is pretty much the wettest that a tensiometer can indicate in my experience. Good luck! /Tim

@Sonnenerde, thank you very much. I will read through the tips! I'm still a bit unsure about the 30mbar, so I will just recalibrate the Blumat digital and see if anything changes.

They look juicy, are you satisfied so far?

@Sonnenerde, very satisfied. No trace of powdery mildew so far and the plants look healthy. The growth of the leaves is almost creepy 👌🏻

well controlled the balance and assimilation of nutrients in that grow, I invite you to check out my profile to see the work I'm doing with my plant nutrition protocols and let's share some data among colleagues. Best regards and keep up that excellent level with the watering and diet of your plants!
