UnorthadoxDude Introducing Dead Fred from St Aubins Genetics, a small independent breeder from Michigan.
I've germinated two but I will only keep the strongest plant.
The plan this time is to stay simple and cheap. This will be a soil grow, a mix of cheap peat free compost, perlite and coarse grit.
Both seeds have germinated. Will keep the strongest seedling at repot time.

UnorthadoxDude Week 1 has arrived for the Dead Fred babies. Only the strongest will be kept. Wish them luck!
It's not been going well. I think I've given them too much light. I have raised the light by about 20cm and reduced power to 50%.

UnorthadoxDude Week two sees these babies way behind where they should be. You can see bad symptoms on the younger leaves, I think this was caused by light being too close.
Since I raised the light a few days ago things seem better, luckily these are photos so there is plenty of time for them to recover.
Already looks like a clear choice which one to keep.
Update 16/3 (day 12):
Since the newer leaves are starting to show the same symptoms as the lower, I have concluded that this is a calcium deficiency. I believe caused by the PH being too low (~6) and my tap water being low in mineral content.
Therefore I have two choices:
1) Get some PH+ and some CalMag and carry on with the planned soil grow
2) Switch to coco, which I have most experience with.
I've already got nutes for soil (BioBizz) but I can use those for my vegetables, peppers, etc - so they will not go to waste.
I am thinking of just going coco to save any hassle.
Update: On reflection and after doing some research. I am going to switch to coco and give HydroSol a go. The advantage being I should not need CalMag using these nutes so the propisition becomes:
Update day 14 (18/3/26)
Have transplanted into 1 gal fabric in Plagron 70/30 coco/perlite mix and fertigated with the new experimental nutrients and CalMag. Let's see what happens.

UnorthadoxDude Day 17 and these two girls have bounced back from the repot. Hoping for strong growth in the coming days.
Have removed the deficient leaves so I can more easily monitor.
Day 19: Starting to look okay. Still not convinced I will keep the little one.

UnorthadoxDude Plants looking okay. Think DLI too high. Have raised light. Drooping in the eve.
Day 24. Have raised the light again as they still droop in the eve. Have decided to kill the little one today so this is the last photo of her. Doubled nute strength.

UnorthadoxDude Day 29. Plants looking good but some signs of P lockout/uptake disruption, likely due to CalMag over correction. Repot needed... time to decide if I should keep two or one and if the former whether to pot alone or together.
Have today flushed with 10ml A & 10ml B and 1ml CalMag
Day 35: I've transplanted into final pots.
Not happy with progress or vigour so I have today switched to Shogun nutes. From here I am in familiar territory with all except the light.
Will take a week for this girl to recover from the shock of transplant.
She is the weakest plant in the grow.

UnorthadoxDude Hello there! Here we are a little over a weel later and look at the response from these plants. Just goes to show how critical the right nutrition is in coco.
Very happy with them now, though it's taken longer than I'd have hoped, I feel we are very close to being able to flip these girls.
This Dead Fred has shown the most remarkable improvement of any plant in this series. Compared to her tent sisters she has really responded super well to the transplant and new nutes. I think the most fitting name for her, therefore, is Lady Lazarus.
I will do final pre-flip LST tomorrow and then flip them sometime next week. Maybe on the final day of week 8.

UnorthadoxDude Day 55 - 26th April
Lady Lazarus is going well. I forgot to do a before shot, but today I did a brutal defoliation, LST and HST training. I will be flipping very soon, scrog net is up.
Day 56 27th April 26: Have changed timer to be on 1800-0600 and off between 0600-1800 so the first 12 hour darkness period will be tomorrow (28th April, day 57). Therefore this has been the final week of veg.

Pistil preflowers looking great.
She's switched into pre-flower and will begin to stretch over the coming week as she settles into full flower.
Lady Lazarus is well and truly resurrected.
I wish Mike over at St Aubins could see this.

UnorthadoxDude Day 76 - 17th May 2026
Day 19 of 12/12
Lady Lazarus well into the stretch now, and I have performed the final defoliation and aggressive removal of stems that will not make the canopy from here.
I messed up the first lot of photos should have been in week 11 but I CBA to change them all now.
Day 81 - 22nd May 2026
Lady Lazarus showing first dusting of frost. She is stretching rapidly now, the tallest plant in the tent already.
Day 84 - 25th May 2026
Lady Lazarus is stetching like crazy, and is absolutely piling on the frost, a brush of her fan leaves brings a citrus smell surprisingly.
