deFharo Welcome, marijuana growers! 🖐️ 👨‍🌾 Finally, one of the seedlings has broken through the central sprout, and although it's growing deformed, I'm really happy to take care of this seedling because if it makes it, I know it will be grateful. 😍 Taking advantage of the fact that I made a substrate mix for other more advanced plants, I decided to transplant it: Old school pot of 7 liters, elevated base, and lateral aeration. ••• The Soil Mix: Invisible Architecture For me, the soil mix is not just another step in cultivation. It's the core of the 3M method: Microbiology, Minerals, and Organic Matter. Everything is in the soil. What doesn’t happen there… doesn’t happen above. I work with a base of two universal peat substrates (7 parts), light, airy, with low nutritional load. I don’t want soil that feeds… I want soil that invites exploration. • From there, I build: - I add 1 part of traditional homemade bokashi: rice husks, charcoal, microbiology, basalt, black soil… pure fermented life. - Another part of bokashi, but this time with an interesting twist: I replace the husks and black soil with Kelp seaweed, loaded with auxins that stimulate rooting. Because yes, even underground there’s strategy. - I add 1.5 parts of worm humus, that dark gold that never fails. - 1 part of rice husks, light, structural, resilient. - 1.5 parts of coconut fiber, previously inoculated with Indigenous Mountain Microorganisms. Here, we don’t plant in emptiness: we plant in life. - I complete with 0.6 parts of vermiculite and zeolite, guardians of moisture and nutrients. And then… the touch that makes you feel like a chemist, geologist, and shaman all at once. - A mix of minerals and powdered rocks, dosed with almost obsessive precision: Montmorillonite, kaolin, brown and green clays, leonardite, dolomite, diatomite, azomite, basalt, wood ash, biochar, rice husk charcoal, pumice, Epsom salt… A periodic table disguised as substrate. ••• Function and Philosophy - The inoculated coconut fiber guarantees microbial life from the very first moment. - The husks, vermiculite, zeolite, and charcoals retain water and nutrients as if they were treasure chests. - The clays improve cation exchange: the secret language of the soil. - The basalt, azomite, dolomite, and ash ensure a complete mineral spectrum, feeding the enzymatic processes that support everything else. deFharo Welcome, marijuana growers! 🖐️ 👨‍🌾 ••• Faith, patience… and bastard genetics This plant, almost seven weeks old, came to my garden as a gift from my Canadian brother 1right_angle. A peculiar cross: Northern Lights (100% indica) x Thai (100% sativa)... thanks, bro! 😁 From its pot, the plant lives peacefully… or so it thinks. It expands leaves and branches enthusiastically, taking up its space as if it doesn’t know that every millimeter is being watched and evaluated. The curious thing is that it now grows with impeccable symmetry at the nodes. And I mention this because it wasn’t always like that. The first weeks were… complicated. Irregular growth, deformities, doubts. But I believed in it. And now it rewards me with continuous and elegant growth. It’s going to be a great crop. (Or that’s what I always say… and the worst part is that I usually get it right). 🤣 ••• Cut, control, and compaction A few days ago, I executed the cut of the central apex. A simple gesture… but loaded with intention. The idea: to encourage branching and slow down vertical stretching. Although, to be honest, the plant was already growing compactly, with short internodes, thanks to the light intensity and those blue lights of 450 nm that I love so much. Come on, it not only grows well… but it also obeys. Nothing can go wrong, of course. 😁 (This phrase should come with an alarm included). 🤣 ••• The Soil: Where the magic happens (again) I’ve also made the first contribution of dry amendments to the substrate --a varied mix of organic raw materials with slow release-- I threw them over the sacred mulch, mixing them with a rake and then watering. But of course, I don’t wait. I speed up the process with my watering mixes loaded with native microbiology, which colonizes the substrate and multiplies as if it owed money to someone. These microorganisms do their job: breaking down nutrients, transforming organic matter… and turning everything into available food. Natural. Efficient. Without forcing. Or well… “without forcing,” within my rather interventionist version of what’s natural. ••• Imitating the forest… but in a hurry! 🏃‍♂️ Deep down, what I’m doing is replicating the biological processes of a forest soil. Only here there are no decades… there are weeks. So I speed everything up. Because growing in pots and under artificial light has limits, and someone has to compensate for them. That someone, apparently, is me with my constant experiments. And the worst part is that it works. I feel confident with the technique. Satisfied with the results. Nothing can go wrong. 😋 (Yes, I keep repeating it. Let’s see if the universe doesn’t notice). ••• What’s coming This regimen will be maintained throughout the vegetative phase. The soil already has everything it needs. The roots are doing their job: searching, exploring, feeding. Later on, when pre-flowering arrives, I’ll change the approach: I’ll introduce varied mixes of organic Bio Fertilizers, adapted to the plant’s new needs. By then, the roots will be fully developed, the substrate will have released a large part of its resources… and everything will be ready for more targeted nutrition. But without excess. Never more than the plant can process. It will set the pace. And I, of course, interpreting signals as if I were an official plant translator. Anyway. This week I made the second application of dry amendments to the substrate, a mix of organic raw materials that the abundant microbiology will quickly make assimilable for the plant. This week it has made a remarkable stretch of 16 cm. This week I increased the concentrations of Bio Nutrients in the watering mixes a bit, the plant is ready, meanwhile, the roots are eagerly peeking out from the base. I've made some changes to the lighting; although I still have the spring blue lamps, I will keep them for a few more days until I'm sure all the plants have stopped stretching, then the summer lights will come, warmer, redder... more appropriate! 💡💡 In the center of the tent, I had two 50w COBs each with blue and full spectrum light, I've replaced them with a panel with a lot of red and blue, also with some 3000K LEDs (100w). Great strength in branches, impeccable leaves, and beautiful floral buds are its arguments... nothing can go wrong! 😂 ••• Artificial August 💡💡🌞 I finally finished the transition from spring lights to warm summer lights. Now the whole garden is tinted with reds, oranges, and yellows. The atmosphere feels like an eternal sunset in August or September, heavy, warm, slightly exaggerated… just how it should be. I've designed a powerful and varied light canopy while covering the four corners with auxiliary lamps. I'm not just looking to light up plants: I want to emulate the tired sun at the end of summer, that dense light that seems to announce both abundance and decay. All very poetic… until you remember that they are Chinese LEDs hanging from pulleys. 😂 ••• Manipulating Time ⌛ This week I also increased the photoperiod by 30 minutes, doing it in two phases of 15 minutes. Now the plants live under a cycle of 12.5/11.5 hours. I will maintain this schedule for at least the next four weeks to promote more photosynthesis time and keep floral growth in full swing. After that, I’ll return to the classic 12/12. The intention is simple and a bit cruel: to remind the plant that the end is near. That autumn is advancing. That it must accelerate the formation of flowers and trichomes in the desperate hope that a male will appear to ensure genetic continuity. Always in gentle doses, where the EC fluctuates between 0.5 and 0.75. The flower formation reveals a sativa tendency, the buds are dense but the way the shoots are forming reminds me of foxtails, which I usually see in sativa genetics... I don’t mind, on the contrary, I’ll smoke it with pleasure! It’s the tallest plant in my rebel garden, the pot has a low profile, almost square in shape, and seems to be the smallest in the pot group, but I’ve grown in it for several seasons and it always surprises me for the better. Water consumption is regular, I water every 3 days, slowly and deeply. For this plant, I’ve made the watering mixes even softer than for the other plants; I don’t want to saturate the substrate or the roots in any way. A few days ago, I reduced the light schedule by 15 minutes, now it’s 12 hours and 15 minutes. In a few more days, I’ll drop it another fifteen minutes to definitely set the schedule to 12/12H. With this subtle schedule change, I intend to remind the plant that autumn is approaching, that the end is near, and that it needs to create many trichomes to capture any lost pollen before it dies, and it doesn’t know that will never happen because this is not a garden for males! 😪 😁 UNTIL NEXT TIME. The metabolism is steady, I water slowly and deeply every 3 days, using gentle mixes of Bio Fertilizers as nutritional supplements, potassium is a must in every mix at this stage. A few days ago, I reduced the light schedule by another 15 minutes, I've been illuminating these first weeks of flowering with 12 hours and 30 minutes, now in two phases I've returned to the 12/12H schedule. I want the plant to feel the end of summer and the beginning of autumn so that the colas start maturing. At the same time, I've added a 50w COB with a color spectrum of 590nm in the most orange corner, a yellow/orange supplementary light whose main feature is high penetration, aiming to illuminate the lower and darker parts, thus enhancing photosynthesis in the maximum area possible, and I hope to get very dense and monstrous buds as a result. 😁 UNTIL NEXT TIME.
