Grow Questions

Jmancstarted grow question 6 years ago
When should I start feeding with nutrients? I am using 1/3 soil (John innes no.1) 1/3 coir and 1/3 perlite. The soil says it has feed for 4 weeks, but I'm only using a 1/3 in my mix. Don't want to overload with nutrients when young? Maybe commencing week 3?

Hey there Jmank, if you're outdoors in soil, the best thing you can do is let the healthy soil give nutrients to the plant. Look for "companion plants" for your next grow. For an auto, you really dont need to feed anything the first few weeks at all, and after that only sparingly, every 10 days max. If anything I would foliar spray the seedling with kelp extract like rhizotonic ever few days, then which to molasses and amino acids for the rest of the feeding. One thing i will say is that in soil or in coco, if you're growing weed you absolutely need micro nutrients like cal mag and sulfur ... for sure have that on hand and start those around the mid of the third week of veg, hope this helps ! 🚀

A very hot week. The slugs made a proper Meal out of the leaves whilst I was away for a few days. Looks healthy overall I think ...

The slugs have got to my leaves pretty badly. Should I cut them off or leave them be?

Hi @Jmanc your leaves will recover fine but it's important to treat the slug problem immediately with snail baits or better still some diatomaceous earth because not only does it deter pests it also is a natural silica source and is beneficial for your plants 😀😀 Win Win with DE Simply sprinkle some around the plants soil and you can also mix a qtr teaspoon with 500mls of water and spray onto the leaves. Hope I have provided a solution to your question Mate

More sunshine at the start of this week. Plant seems to be doing well. Watering every other day alternating with nutrients and plain tap water left out for at least 24 hours. Very happy so far. Some slugs are making a meal out of the leaves. UPDATE: The leaves have started to discolour all over the plant from the top to the bottom. I'm pretty worried and don't know what is causing it!! UPDATE 2: I think this is a nitrogen deficiency so have given her an extra strong dose of bio-grow 2ml/L strength.

Slugs have been a problem but I've put down some natural traps which will hopefully help. What I thought was a magnesium or potassium deficiency was probably heat stress as they have been in a greenhouse in the hot weather. Made my own Aloe Vera spray with 1 teaspoon / litre. Gave them a good spraying for a nice boost! Tied down the lower stems for a bit of LST - a bit late in the game perhaps but better late than never?

Some pistels now turning orange, probably ready to harvest next week. I have had a continued battle against the slugs, and now a few spiders, but on the whole pretty happy about how she is turning out. Some fan leaves have turned yellow, so I know its nearly time to harvest!

This northern light was easy to grow, although it did suffer from some heat stress when temperatures got (very) high. It managed to survive the slugs and spiders!
