Work on the Plant: LST & Structure: I decided to ditch the training clips that I'm not a fan of. I went back to my good old strings for more precise control. Optimization: On 04/05, yesterday, I did a major LST job combined with slight defoliation. The goal was to create a much more airy structure to allow light to penetrate to the heart of the plant and promote secondary flowering sites. Observations: I feel like the lady is slowly starting to want to enter pre-flowering. The tops are lightening and changing texture... we'll know for sure in the coming days! System Management and Nutrients: I haven't given anything. The substrate continues to work in synergy with the Biotabs. Watering with Bactrex has clearly boosted soil life, and the plant responds perfectly to each handling. Situation Summary: The plant now occupies a nice area. Training helps maintain an even canopy despite the vertical growth. The branches are strong and well-spaced, which promises optimal air circulation for what's to come. It is thriving on its own. ​Structure: The string training is still doing its job, maintaining an open canopy where air circulates perfectly. ​Management of the Autopot system: ​on 12/05 Nutrition: Staying true to the Biotabs method, the plant has only received clear water via the Autopot system. Its dark green color and vigor prove that the substrate is perfectly balanced for this transition phase. on 14/05 addition of 50 cl of tea compost preparation tea compost: THE MIX: 15 grams of tea compost with 5 ml of orgatrex for 1 liter of water (4 plants so ×2. 50cl per plant). mix everything in a bucket. THE PREPARATION material: 1 bucket 1 air pump for aquarium. (15 euros). I will use for 18:00 the pump from my autopot dome. I also bought 2 small air diffusers for 4 euros. useful utensils for aerating the tea compost. put the diffusers inside, turn on the pump and let it run for 18:00. normally the ideal temperature for microorganisms to develop is between 18 degrees and 22 degrees. for my part, the mixture was in my grow room at around 24, 25 degrees. see video and photos added 18:00 later filter the mixture to avoid any deposits that could mold and bring in fungi. give the plant 50 centiliters. The tea compost does not keep well, give it within the hour following the stop of aeration ​Summary: We are reaching a pivotal moment. At 68 cm in height, it occupies the space ideally. Big relief in the box: We started with 4 plants in this space. I finally managed to move the two MAC 1 into the tent that was originally planned for them. In hindsight, I realized that one of the MAC 1 had grown so huge that it was overshadowing and blocking the development of many secondary branches on the other three plants! Today, the structure of my Frostbanger is really beautiful, but I still believe it could have been even more impressive if they hadn’t been cramped together at the start. Now that it has space, it will be able to express itself fully! The battle against height (New LST): Maximum height reached: Freed from its neighbors, the lady has completely exploded in vertical growth, reaching over 87 cm in height! Action: Faced with this uncontrollable push and to prevent it from getting burned by the light, I had to pull out the strings and redo a major LST to lay it down and constrain its structure. Height after LST: 78 cm (which gives us +10 cm compared to last week, while gaining 9 cm of safety thanks to the bending). The D.I.Y. puzzle for the light: With a pot 37 cm high, the top of the plant after training still peaks at 1.15m from the ground. Having removed the original ties that made me lose 10 cm to hang it as high as possible directly with strings (D.I.Y. system), my panel is now positioned about 1.67m from the ground. This allows me to maintain my 52 cm safety distance from the canopy. If I press the light all the way against the roof bars of the tent, I only have 10 cm of total maneuvering room for the rest of the session. It’s very tight! Nutrition & Autopot Management: Action: I just cut off the water supply from the Autopot. Objective: I’m letting the pot dry out gently for the next few days. As soon as the substrate is well dried and aerated, I’ll give it a manual watering to send in the PK 5-8 from Biotabs to give a big boost to the first buds that are starting to show. Summary: The big cleanup in the tent and the new training have helped to rebalance the canopy. The secondary branches, finally freed from the shadow of the MAC 1, will be able to fully enjoy the light. Plant Status & Morphology: Current height: 83 cm (+ 5 cm since last week). Fin, stretch! Good news for space management in the tent, it has finally stopped stretching! We can finally breathe regarding the lamp height. Flower Development: The buds are now well-formed and starting to take on a very nice structure. Color Observation: A little interesting detail, it started to change color towards purple, but it stopped halfway. It's a shame, I would have loved to see this pheno fully express itself, but it remains gorgeous! Nutrition (Switching to PK): As expected after the pot drying period, I moved to action on the booster side: Manual addition of 4 ml of PK 5-8 from Biotabs in 0.75 cl of water (pH 6.3). This targeted addition comes at just the right time to support the explosion of the first real buds now that the structure is no longer growing in height. The rest of the time, the Autopot continues to distribute clear water. Visual Summary: The stabilized canopy shows nice uniformity. The flowering sites are fully benefiting from the space freed up during the last update. The cause: The air pump installed in the reservoir. I learned the hard way that the action of the air pump raises the pH of the water at a crazy speed. The plant has therefore been growing with an unsuitable pH for almost a month without me realizing it.. (you learn from your mistakes 🤣) Correction: I immediately removed the air pump. To stabilize my tank in the long term, I'm changing my strategy and switching to Plagron's pH Down (hydro special), which is reputed to be much more stable in passive reservoirs. Plant Status & Morphology: Despite this pH issue, Babouch shows incredible resilience. The Biotabs are doing an exceptional job of buffering in the substrate. Current height: 84 cm (+ 1 cm, the stretch is definitely stopped). Bud Development: The buds are really swelling visibly and are already particularly firm to the touch. A notable and very cool phenomenon: Babouch is developing "mini-buds" on the main buds, giving them an original horn-like shape! Colors & Smells: The flowers are starting to show a beautiful pinkish hue. As for the smell, it is already extremely strong; I'm really surprised by its potency at this stage. Foliage: All the leaves are still showing a deep and vigorous green; there are absolutely no signs of senescence at the moment. I just have a few small localized burns on some leaves, but nothing serious: it's simply due to accumulated transpiration when I was handling the plant. Nutrition (The lady is hungry): I feel like she’s particularly greedy right now. Today, I prepared a nice manual meal for her: 5 ml of PK 5-8 Biotabs in 1 liter of water (pH 6.3). She should love this boost to accompany the swelling of her "horns." The rest of the time, the Autopot runs on plain water (and now at the right pH!). Summary: A week rich in lessons. Babouch's structure is super solid, her buds are dense, resinous, and starting to take on beautiful hues. I feel like it’s growing "like wheat spikes," a very interesting flowering structure, even if this phenomenon is a bit less pronounced on Babouch than on her sister Dora. Trichomes: Upon observation, most of the trichomes are now nicely milky. This is the perfect signal I was waiting for to kick off the final stretch. Nutrition and strategy (The big clean-up in manual mode): Last feeding: I gave what will normally be her very last PK 5-8 Biotabs feeding yesterday. System management: For this crucial phase, I’ve completely cut off the Autopot system and switched to manual watering mode. This will allow me to precisely control the amount of clear water provided and to let the substrate breathe well between waterings. Flushing Goal: From now on, Babouch will only receive clear water for a minimum period of 14 days. The goal is to completely cut off the nutrients to force her to draw from her own reserves stored in the large leaves, thus triggering a true and beautiful senescence by the time of harvest. Visual Summary: With the light pushed to 100%, resin production is intensifying and the buds are sparkling under the LEDs. The calyxes continue to stack beautifully, and despite her still very green and vigorous leaf structure, the start of the flush will slowly begin to pale the lady. Lighting action: To calm this stress and approach the last week (or almost) serenely, I lowered the Lumatek to 75%. Colors & Trichomes: Babouch displays a stunning color leaning towards purple/dark gray, a magnificent effect accentuated by the amount of resin. Visually, the trichomes are mostly milky, but there aren't really any amber ones on the horizon yet. Flushing & Senescence (On a diet!): Watering follow-up: It has now been a full week since the plant has been on a flush with clear water and in manual mode. Progress: Babouch is just starting its senescence. The leaves will slowly begin to discolor in the coming days as it draws from its last reserves. Summary: Everything is going great in the box, the plant is simply stunning. The buds are heavy, the resin is everywhere, and the smell is at its peak. The return to 75% light power will allow it to mature quietly without producing new growth. We're closely monitoring the trichomes for the fateful moment! The contrast between the very dark purple of the calyxes and the white of the trichomes is incredible to see. It's completely normal for senescence to take a little time to kick in: the Biotabs nourish the soil so well deep down that the plant has plenty of reserves to consume! The slight foxtailing due to light stress has stabilized, giving way to massive heads that are weighed down by resin. ​Colors & Trichomes: The dark purple and gray coat of Babouch is breathtaking, beautifully contrasting with a blanket of well-ripened milky trichomes. ​End Strategy & Manual Mode: ​Flushing completed: After two full weeks on a diet and clear water with manual watering, the plant has perfectly consumed its reserves. Senescence is now well established, and the leaves have given their last strength to nourish the flowers. ​The Great Black: Today, I’m plunging the box into complete darkness for a period of 2 days. This total darkness will positively stress Babouch one last time to push resin production to its maximum. ​Perfect Timing: These 48 hours of darkness will give me time to receive the famous Dryrocket! I will thus be able to try it out and inaugurate it directly for the crucial drying stage that is approaching. ​📊 Overall Session Recap & Impressions ​For this final chapter, it's time to take a look back and assess this adventure with Babouch: ​The Beginning (Weeks 2 & 3): A lightning-fast growth (+8 cm in just 3 days). This is when I started LST. I quickly abandoned the training clips which I wasn't a fan of (the stem was thickening too fast!) to return to my trusty little strings, which are much more precise. ​Space Management (Weeks 4 to 6): At first, there were 4 in the tent. One of the MAC 1s had grown so large that it was blocking quite a few secondary branches on the other plants. Once the MAC 1s were moved to their own box, Babouch was finally able to breathe. The stretch was impressive, climbing to over 87 cm before a major rescue LST brought it back to 78 cm to prevent it from getting burned in the lamp. ​Minor Issues Controlled (Weeks 7 & 8): My vacation in Rimini allowed me to see how much the Autopot and the dehumidifier secure a session. Upon my return, I did discover that my pH had risen to 8 due to the air pump in the reservoir (a good lesson learned!). The problem was quickly corrected by removing the air pump and using Plagron's pH Down to stabilize the tank. ​The Final Sprint (Weeks 9 & 10): A last manual feeding with PK 5-8 Biotabs before completely cutting off the Autopot for 14 days of 100% manual flushing. The switch of the lamp to 100% caused slight foxtailing, quickly corrected by lowering it back to 75% to let the flowers mature peacefully until the appearance of their magnificent dark purple and gray hues. ​My Personal Opinion: Despite the minor hiccups along the way, I find that the Autopot system, combined with the valuable advice I received from the community, made this session incredibly simple and smooth in terms of nutrients. Visually, I really feel like I succeeded much better this session than with normal pots and classic manual watering. The plant was more vigorous, more autonomous, and the final result is simply above my expectations. ​It's time for the official farewell to Babouch. The curtain falls on the box, and it’s time for the last moments in the shadows before the harvest and the Dryrocket test! ​It's a truly positive and enriching assessment! squalino **Grow Journal: The Final Page (EN) – The Art of Traditional Hashmaking (Squalino Method)** The journey of **Dora** and **Babouche** comes to a magnificent end. Nothing is wasted, everything is transformed: here is the final step for treating the trim leaves, inspired by the traditional method of the legendary French Cannoli, completely revisited my way. --- ### 🛠️ The Hashmaker's Toolkit * **Raw Material:** Sugar leaves carefully saved from my two **Frostbanger (Personal F2)** plants. * **Extraction:** The *Drymbin* to sift and collect the pure kief (*dry sift*). * **Protection:** Latex gloves are a must. * **Packaging:** A high-quality DIY vacuum sealer bag (perfect for heat resistance and food-grade safe, so absolutely zero plastic contaminants). * **Press:** A Rosin press (*Graspresso by Graveda*) with precise dual-plate temperature control. --- ### The "Squalino" Method: Capturing the Resin The goal here is to use very gentle heat (**50°C maximum**) on the plates. Why 50°C? Because that is the exact temperature reached by the friction of rubbing your two palms together vigorously. Unlike the classic hot water bottle method (which gets much hotter), we aren't trying to melt the resin into runny Rosin, but rather gently fuse the trichome cuticles to lock them inside our hash. Although this is my very first trial using these settings, the result is so conclusive that I will definitely try bumping up the heat a bit on future attempts. **The Step-by-Step Process:** 1. **The Gold Sift:** First, I did a quick and gentle run through the *Drymbin* with my two batches of trim leaves. The key here is not to over-work it, ensuring we only collect the absolute purest head trichomes. 2. **The Pre-Press:** With this incredibly pure kief collected, I gently shaped a small ball in the palm of my hand. Once it is compact and firm enough, it’s ready for the press. 3. **Setting Up the Press:** I placed the ball inside my plastic pouch (slicing one side open to make unmolding much easier). I put it between the plates next to a silicone mat folded in half—this clever trick acts as a spacer so the press doesn't clamp down too hard and flatten the material completely. 4. **Progressive Pressing:** As soon as both plates touch the plastic and start pressing, leave it for 10 seconds. Every 10 seconds, tighten it by one click. Do not press it all the way down; it absolutely needs to keep some thickness so you can work the texture. 5. **The Folds (The Secret to Texture):** Take the disc out, unmold it, fold it over itself several times to form a small square, and repeat the pressing process. I repeated this cycle **6 times in total**. 6. **The Curing:** To finish, the warm and pliable disc is rolled by hand into a flawless, glossy, and oily *Temple Ball*, then put away for curing. --- ### 📊 Results & Visual Breakdown * **Final Weight:** **2.7 grams** of absolutely gorgeous "Gold Hash" achieved on the scale! 🤩 * **Appearance:** The finished product looks incredibly clean. The warm disc shows beautiful golden highlights and a mirror-like shine under the light, proving the resin is pure and free of plant contaminants. squalino The Summary of a Memorable Session & Thanks A very easy grow: Babouch turned out to be a very easy plant to cultivate. Despite a few totally unintentional mistakes along the way – notably a pH that rose too high due to the air pump or the high temperatures caused by the lights being too close (related to its large size) combined with the outside temperatures – it handled everything with incredible resilience. The Autopot system worked wonderfully, keeping the plant healthy and in excellent condition throughout its life. It managed to produce beautiful, dense buds despite the temperature excesses. The challenge of the final manicure (Defoliation): The final defoliation before drying was particularly complicated. Due to its high density and foxtailing shape, removing the small and large leaves embedded in the heart of the buds turned into a precision job. A lot of time was spent removing 6 hours of manual work. Many "monofolioles" (single-blade leaves) had formed even inside the buds, a typical reaction of the plant to thermal stress trying to transpire and cool down. Conclusion: I really couldn't have dreamed of a better session. With its structure, resilience, and aromas, Babouch remains one of my favorite strains to date. 📣 Final Thanks A huge thank you to Fast Buds for this incredible genetics that allowed me to work with this magnificent F2.
