broccoleee - Black soil from Sonnenerde in the 3rd run (after 1st run topped up with 7-10 L of fresh soil), coarse pumice at the bottom for drainage and fine pumice in the substrate as a water/nutrient reservoir, earthworms, beneficials - a bit of Almicanna Cover Crop Mix + mulch/plant residues from the last run - I’ve now put them directly in the bed, let’s see how they do - ppfd at about 260, light rhythm 18/6 - about 25°C - VPD at 1.0-1.1 - about 67% humidity

broccoleee - everything has grown a bit in the past few days, the pheno on the left is a bit behind but they didn't sprout from the soil at the same time either - light is now at 300ppfd, parameters are the same as before

broccoleee - You can definitely see that the two are not going to grow at the same rate, there are slightly different internode distances. - Otherwise, I'm quite happy with them so far, let's see how it goes. - New companion plants keep popping up from the distributed seeds, I topped one and trimmed a few others, it's a nice little activity haha.

broccoleee - Plants were topped last time and have grown well in the meantime - The beautiful bloom could have been from the oil radish, and the fungus or "fruiting body" in the soil also suggests an active soil life, what more could you want - Parameters are all the same as before - I tidied up the bed a bit, removed some upper fan leaves to let more light to the lower shoots, and I'll just let everything grow for now

broccoleee - Training is in full swing and the first shoots are going into the net - I topped a few more shoots to distribute them better in/under the net - Temperature is currently at 28-29 degrees when the light is on and 26-27 when it's off, humidity around 70% with a VPD of about 1.0

broccoleee - There's not much to report, training is going well and I'm still distributing some shoots - I'm giving about 1-2 doses of AlfaBoost as a foliar spray each week to improve regeneration/stress during training until we start flowering - I've trimmed the cover crop back a bit more after taking pictures, I want to start flowering in about a week - Parameters are the same as before

broccoleee - Flowering week 1 - I switched to 12/12 on Monday - VPD is currently at 1.3 at about 28°C with lights on and around 68% humidity... VPD will be increased to 1.5/1.6 over time - Lights are currently at 700 ppfd and I probably won't go above 800 ppfd this summer due to heat - Other than that, not much to report, I've trimmed most of the companion plants back for flowering, the rest will be pruned occasionally or will soon have leaves from defoliation covering them

broccoleee - Flowering week 2 - So they are clearly in stretch and everything is still within limits, I still have room to grow but they shouldn't necessarily get twice as big now - Light is now at about 800 ppfd and VPD at 1.4 - After taking pictures, I defoliated a bit and already removed a few unnecessary shoots - There's not much more new, the plants look healthy and I don't see any deficiencies so far, what more could you want

broccoleee - Flowering week 3 - The canopy actually looks pretty nice and the two are healthy and lively - Parameters are all the same, just the apartment has cooled down a bit and I've mostly just done a little defoliation, etc. - There's still a bit of room for growth, but I wouldn't be upset if they stayed about the same - There's really nothing more to report right now

broccoleee - Beginning of flowering week 4 - VPD is now at 1.5, and it will stay like this for a while - Buds are slowly getting thicker, you can see more trichomes, and you can already smell a bit - Otherwise, I removed a few more shoots and might take out 1-2 shaky candidates for more space, lollipop is also done, but I always do that relatively early anyway

broccoleee - Flowering week 5 - Buds are slowly getting a bit thicker, you can see more trichomes and it’s starting to smell a bit in the tent - aside from the VPD being raised to 1.6, nothing else has really happened, but I’m actually satisfied so far

broccoleee - Flowering week 6 - I have a few white tips, but the light is actually "only" at about 850 ppfd and I’ll probably just leave it like that - A few leaves also have slight brown edges, but to be honest, it’s too little to adjust anything now, they still mostly look fresh - According to the breeder, they should be ready between 65 and 70 flowering days, so about 8-9 weeks of flowering, which means we have about 2 - 2.5 weeks left

broccoleee - Flowering week 7 - We are now on flowering day 44 and according to the breeder, they should be finished in about 65-70 days... so about 21-26 days to go, and I will check what the trichomes say next week. - I ordered springtails and pillbugs for the bed, but after some tips and tests/observations, I unfortunately have to realize that I don't have anything else in the bed besides the earthworms. - The smell is also slowly increasing when opening the tent; so far, I can smell good lemon and something spicy.

broccoleee - Flowering week 9 - We are now on flowering day 60 and I'm really amazed that the strain actually needs its 65-70 days... I'm planning to harvest next weekend, so on day 67 or 68 - The smell is more lemony and spicy again, I think, and I'm not entirely sure but I caught a very faint diesel scent today, though I could be mistaken - I think they still look really fresh and haven't aged much at all, which is also crazy, the buds look nicely sugary and are well swollen, even the small buds under the main buds have really gained over time - You can slowly feel the weight of the buds, the branches are just barely managing to hold everything up and the leaves help a bit to keep the distance from the wall and other buds

When did you start topping?
broccoleee
broccoleee commented18h ago
@Badbreath, you mean defoliation? It begins a little bit after the topping to let light to the lower shoots
Badbreath
Badbreath commented15h ago
@broccoleee, okey do you lst in this stage?
broccoleee
broccoleee commented14h ago
@Badbreath, also after topping yes, to spread the shoots under the scrog net and try to get an even + full covered canopy later...mostly with earth nails, clamps (you can see the white clamps in week 5/6 pictures) or wire and the scrog net

Awesome pistons :D Looks really delicious, and it probably smells good too :D Why are you lowering the vpd or did you mean raising it? I'm in for the light, I always do that anyway, it doesn't really matter towards the end and the temps drop, which the terpenes appreciate :D
broccoleee
broccoleee commented4d ago
@HaschHasch, just take a bit of transpiration and stress off and also only from 1.5 to 1.4, so in the end it probably doesn't make much difference, and humidity is also around 58%, which is within range. Light is definitely more important, in summer it’s warm enough in the tent anyway... luckily I haven't gone over 30°C in summer either 😁

Hey, I would reconsider the thing with the pill bugs. At BuildASoil, there are a few episodes where the pill bugs nibble on the young plants. Here in the forum, there's also a grower who has ordered several times without them because they are so annoying. You can get springtails through good compost.
broccoleee
broccoleee commented14d ago
@Tower84, thanks for the input, but unfortunately it's too late for now😄 There are tropical springtails and pillbugs (they're small), let's see what happens.
Tower84
Tower84 commented14d ago
@broccoleee, If necessary, you also have to counteract with pill bug-free 😅 I didn't even know you could buy pill bugs. My stock of springtails has dramatically decreased since I put 6000 predatory mites Hypoaspis Miles in my little bed to combat the fungus gnats. But I still have fungus gnats 😂😂😂😂
broccoleee
broccoleee commented14d ago
@Tower84, now at least I know why I hardly had springtails, I also had to use hypoapsis miles in large quantities against fungus gnats 😄

Colonel_oCoQ commentedweek 1222d ago
Hey, just realized that you're also German :-), light stress and the (Bleach) crown resulting from it is a bit weird at first, but something quite positive happens with the part underneath: trichome explosion. I've been working with high light stress for years, and if you're careful, you only lose about 1-2cm of bud mass compared to the rest, which has a much higher trichome density and thus more potency and flavor. A tip for this: initiate light stress at the beginning of the peak flowering stage and wait until the Bleach crown shows up, then lower the light stress for a few days to let it recover, repeat, etc. The qualitative difference in the final product is, in my opinion, worth the "stress." I work with up to 1200 ppfd at the tops of the plants. The important thing here is: never blast high PPFD for 18 hours straight, but rather target the "theoretical" midday time for 3-4 hours, which is usually enough. However, I use an Autopot system with a mineral/bio combo and air domes, so that enough nutrients, etc., reach the plants. Best regards and Happy Harvest. 😇
broccoleee
broccoleee commented21d ago
@Colonel_oCoQ, thanks for the informative comment! I'm now lowering the PPFD a bit in the summer to keep the temperature in check; otherwise, I easily go over 30 °C in the tent with 900+ ppfd. I'll definitely keep the tips in mind, but normally I try to keep "as little stress as possible" during the grow, which is also one reason I like Living Soil. However, it could actually be that I run into nutrient problems (purely organic / living soil) if I temporarily increase photosynthesis significantly; I've seen that happen in previous runs, but it also depends a bit on the strain. Greetings for sure! 😊
Colonel_oCoQ
Colonel_oCoQ commented21d ago
@broccoleee, Yeah, I have an acquaintance with Living Soil, light stress doesn't really work there, or rather it often causes too much stress with Bleach-Crown but hardly any more trichomes. We both suspect (caution, dangerous half-knowledge ;-)) that in this moment of stress there are simply too few nutrients available for this "peak" in photosynthesis and the biological defense systems (trichome production/terpenes) in the "soil".😅😅
