Kushycat New journey, new luck.
Iโm really excited about this opportunity from @paradiseseeds to show that Iโve learned from my early mistakes and can finally bring a few plants to maturity without them looking half-dead like my first indoor growing attempts ๐ In addition to debuting this fine strain, this will also be my very first run with photoperiod plants.
Paradise Seeds provided me with 3 Caramba seeds and 3 Auto Kong seeds. The Auto Kongs will most likely be used in a future run, and so the two Carambas donโt feel too lonely, I ordered some Mendo Crรจme myself.
For a better overview, Iโll create:
one grow diary featuring 2 Caramba plants
and another one with 2 Mendo Crรจme plants.
I donโt have a fixed plan yet for how long the vegetative phase will last, but Iโm thinking itโll probably be on the longer side. First, I want to see how they develop and then decide when to switch to 12/12.
A big thank you to Viviana and the whole team at @paradiseseeds .
Iโve polished my tent to a high shine and hope I managed to take some nice pictures.
Soโฆ let the wild ride begin! ๐

Kushycat There isn't much to report yet, as you can see. They took their time soaking up water before finally cracking open.
They're now in the tent, and the lamp is running at 40% power on an 18-hour schedule. Tomorrow I'll turn on the humidifier and let nature take its course. One exciting change for future grows is that I'll be generating my own electricity to power them.
Since they're still small and stretched a bit despite being kept in a bright spot, I've given them some support with stakes. Their stems are already strong enough to hold themselves up, but I'd rather not take any chances.
I've also engineered a high-performance watering device to prevent the kind of water-related disasters I've managed to create in previous grows. See the pictures for this cutting-edge technology. xD

Kushycat Hi, I'm a little late with this update because I haven't been feeling very well lately. The little ones seem to be doing fine so far. ๐ฑ
I've been careful with watering. I haven't weighed the pots, but I've started to get a feel for whether they're dry or can wait another day.
I was wondering why they were growing so slowly. At first I thought it might be because I left them on the balcony for the first two days since the weather was nice. I figured a little sunshine wouldn't hurt at the start. โ๏ธ
After comparing them, I realized the lamp was hanging a bit too high. It's running at 40% power and is now about 70 cm above the plants after I adjusted it.
I'll probably switch on the second lamp in the next few days and lower them a little more. How low would you go at this stage?
They seem much happier now, and I've definitely noticed better growth since adjusting the light.
I'm taking it easy this run. This time I have the luxury of playing Mother Nature myself and deciding when the flowers start to bloom. ๐๐ฟ

Kushycat Another week has passed ๐ฑ Everything is fine, but Iโm dealing with a few fungus gnats ?. Only a small number, but I want to get rid of them early. I know most growers end up with them at some point, but Iโd rather not let them settle in and multiply. Iโve set up yellow sticky traps ? and will add neem oil at the next watering ๐ฟ.
Growth has picked up noticeably ๐ฟโจ, but Iโm still running the light at 40% power. Itโs brutally hot outside โ๏ธ, and the tent is already sitting at around 31ยฐC ๐ฅ. Iโll switch on the activated carbon filter now, and if everything goes to plan, there should be a small air conditioner in the grow space by the end of the month โ๏ธ.
I topped the plants โ๏ธ๐ฑ, and just a day later I can already see the first tiny signs of new upward growth. Theyโre very vigorous ๐ช๐ฟ and gently swaying in the fanโs airflow ๐ฌ๏ธ. Iโm still watering carefully ๐ง, but I can tell theyโre getting thirstier nowโpartly because of the heat โ๏ธ and partly because their growth has really taken off ๐๐ฑ

Kushycat Hi everyone! ๐๐ฑ
Sorry for the late update, but unfortunately I've had a lot on my plate lately. On top of that, I may have a fracture in my already injured foot. ๐ Hopefully I'll know more soon.
Well... I finally found some time and, more importantly, the motivation to write an update again. To be honest, the whole situation has been pretty tough on me lately, and I've been struggling a bit mentally. But hey... life goes on somehow. ๐
Oh, and it looks like the woman is gone too, so I guess I'm single again. ๐๐
Now to the important part! ๐ฟ
It has been extremely hot in the tent, and I still haven't bought an air conditioner. The girls handled the heat surprisingly well, but they've barely grown over the past few days. It was a constant balancing act between keeping the nighttime temperatures as low as possible and maintaining decent relative humidity. ๐ก๏ธ
I managed to get rid of the fungus gnats with neem oil, although I think I was a little too generous with the dosage, which caused some minor leaf damage. ๐ ๐ Luckily, it wasn't anything serious, and they're already recovering nicely from the heat stress and the neem treatment.
I'll definitely keep them in the vegetative stage a little longer. More hot weather is on the way, and I'd like them to grow a bit bigger before flipping them to flower. ๐ฑโ๏ธ They should move into their final 12-liter Air-Pots within the next few days.
Technically, this is already Week 5, but I'm going to stick with my weekly update schedule and hopefully stay on track with a new update every seven days from now on. ๐ค๐ ๐ฑ
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you're all having an amazing grow! ๐๐ฟ

Kushycat Oh yeah, I'm late with the update again, but you guys already know how it goes... struggling every day. ๐น
As you can see, it was definitely time to repot the girls. While they were still in their little pots, I had some Guerilla Juice left over from my outdoor plants, but it only helped them a little.
I planted all the girls a bit deeper because I want them to get used to their new home first. Then I'll turn them into some nice little bushes before they start flowering. ๐ฑ๐
I think they'll root in over the next few days and recover from the nutrient deficiency and everything else. Fingers crossed! ๐ค๐

Kushycat Oh well, what can I say... late again. ๐น No more promises, but I'll at least try to stay on schedule this week.
I've been pretty busy with my foot and my emotional rollercoasterโyou know how it is, same old story. My foot isn't broken, which is good, but it still hurts, which isn't. ๐ So... back to the doctor I go. It's getting a bit boring at this point, I know.
Now, back to the main topic! As you could see in my last update, I repotted the ladies, and they seem to love their new home. They've settled in nicely, and I'm really happy with how they're doing so far.
I'm also excited to share that I've somehow managed to become part of the BioTabs team! A huge and heartfelt thank you to @Mia_BIOTABS for making that possible. ๐
Since the soil is fresh and already lightly pre-fertilized, I didn't add any Tabs yetโjust Mycotrex and Bactrex. In the near future, I'll top-dress with some silica and add a BioTab to the soil. I figured that would be a good way to prepare them for the transition into flowering.
I've also done a few rounds of topping, trimming, and a bit of plant bondage. ๐น I'm already really happy with how they're looking, but they still need a little more time to grow. I think another 3โ4 weeks of veg should do the trick. ๐ฑ

Kushycat Hello, fellow plant lovers! ๐ฑ๐ The journey continuesโno reins, no rails... just rolling with it. xD
There isn't much to report at the moment. The girls have settled in really well, they're getting a little training every day, and they'll get a light trim over the next few days.
Another heat wave has rolled through the country, but it's still manageableโaround 28ยฐC indoors and a little warmer inside the tent. So far, they've only been getting pH-adjusted water, and they seem perfectly happy with that. ๐

Kushycat Hi everyone,
Unfortunately, Iโve been having some issues with the website and havenโt been able to post any updatesโsometimes I couldnโt even access the site.
I think it has something to do with the updates. In the end, clearing my browserโs cache helped. If anyone else is having similar problems, that might be a solution.
But now, on to the main topic: Weeeeed. ๐
Not much has happened. I pruned her back nicely and keep tying the branches down a little bit. Other than that, Iโve just been watering her and fertilizing her with love. So far, Iโm pretty happy with how she looks. Now I want her to grow a little taller, and then sheโll start flowering soon.
I canโt detect any scent from my Mendo girls yet, but I can see that theyโre growing faster than their Ccaramba sisters, and I think theyโll have the most stretch.
Basically, Iโm just waiting for it to get a little cooler outside so I can turn on the second lamp and start the flowering phase.

Kushycat Hello, fellow growers and plant lovers!
It looks a little wild, but Iโm wild too, and after all, itโs still a little piece of nature. ๐ The ladies got a nice Silicium Flash topping, and as you can see, they seem to love it. Iโm pretty happy with how theyโre doing so far.
Iโll give them another trim over the next few days, and then weโll see how it goes. Luckily, itโs not as hot outside anymore, and the rooms are cooling down a bit as well.
Until next time! ๐ฑโ๏ธ

Kushycat Edward Scissorhands came to visit and just wanted to have a look at the plants. Oh, I saw it comingโin the end, a whole bunch of leaves and little branches were gone. ๐น But I reassured him because he was so embarrassed.
Oh, dear Edward, I wanted to trim the ladies up a bit anyway, so you actually helped me out. So, a big thank you to Edward for his helpful scissor hands! โ๏ธ๐ฑ

Kushycat The two ladies have recovered really well from their visit to the hairdresser and the bondage studio and have already developed some new shoots and foliage. ๐
The troublemaker was harvested today, so theyโll be starting to flower soon. Tomorrow, once the lights come on, Iโll turn on the second lamp, and then switch them to a 12-hour cycle shortly after.
Iโm really excitedโthe smell is already amazing when you rub, cut, or bend them. I gave them their first dose of Ogratex as well, since they had started looking a little pale.

Kushycat So, finally another update from inside. I wasnโt feeling too well again, but oh wellโI took care of the ladies yesterday, and they werenโt feeling too great either.
At first, I thought I hadnโt watered them enough, since their little ears were drooping quite a bit. So I watered them generously, but there was still no change the next day.
Then I thought, hmm, maybe the surface and the edges of the Airpots were dry, but the core was too wetโoverwateredโand that was causing the leaves to droop. So I didnโt do anything for two days, but it just got worse.
Now Iโve given them another radical pruning and then carefully checked the center with a sterilized knife to see if everything was wet or dry. Yep, it was dryโlike a desert. I did this for every plant, then placed a broken-up BioTab about 3 cm deep into the soil for each one, carefully covered it up, and watered them with Orgatrex.
My conclusion is that they were too dry and had run out of nutrients. Because of their large leaf mass, they were losing a lot of water through evaporation, and these two factors caused them to wilt.
The fact that I was right seems pretty clear from the fact that theyโre recovering and looking more vibrant every day. Starting tomorrow, Iโll reduce the lighting time and switch to the flowering cycle.

Kushycat I couldn't keep my hands to myself and ended up pruning them againโremoving leaves and small shoots that were bothering me. Other than that, I've been gradually switching them over to flowering mode over the past few days.
Switching from 18/6 to 12/12 overnight seems too unnatural to me, even though they're indoors. So I've been gradually reducing the light cycle over several days while slightly increasing the lamp's wattage. The stretch phase can go as long as it needs toโthere's plenty of room overhead.
I might have pushed the ladies a bit too hard with the long vegetative phase and frequent HST, since one of them already showed pistils after the first light-cycle change. I'll keep a closer eye on all the girls from now on and hope no nasty little penises show up. xD

Kushycat So now weโre in the first week of flowering, and Iโm really happy with how things are going. The plants are constantly putting on more leaf mass, so I have to prune them every few days to remove the light-stealers and the small shoots that keep popping up. They take it all in stride and reward me by stretching nicely. ๐
The lights are now running at 60% power. My goal is to reach 80โ90% during flowering weeks 5โ6, and then gradually dial them back again for a nice fade.
A very kind person sent me a few very special treats, so I already have some of the ingredients for the next run ready to go. But more on that once this one starts winding down. ๐

Kushycat Hello, fellow plant lovers!
Finally, an update... Luckily, I took a few photos along the way. I was caught up in the outdoor harvest rush and really went all out. The hardest part is behind me now, so I have more time for the girls in the apartment, who are doing really well.
The stretch has been moderate, but thatโs exactly what I wanted. I removed a few leaves again, but theyโll grow back in just a couple of days.

Kushycat And on we goโor rather, on with the blooms!
The stretching phase seems to be almost over, and the plants are thriving. Theyโre developing some nice buds and plenty of pistils, and according to reports, the first frost has even been spotted.
Of course, Iโve pruned them again. I think Iโll give them one more thorough pruning, and after that, Iโll only remove leaves as needed.
As Iโm uploading the pictures, I just realized I made a mistake. I rearranged the plants a bit, so some of the photos now show one Caramba and one Mendo Creme side by side.
Iโll post a video in the next few days showing the two strains separately.
@Momentum, all good, I've worked with neem oil + yellow sticky traps before. Sure, it stinks a lot, but it's actually good for the plants, not just against pests ^^ Thanks for the feedback! ๐๐๐ธ
@Momentum, No, it's really dirty right now. I need to vacuum the tent tomorrow. xD The floor has to be clean because it should reflect โ it's not white for nothing. Who needs Undercanopy Lights when you can just clean? ๐
You actually have an advantage in a microgrow: When the lid is closed, you definitely can't peek inside. ๐
Ah, a small tent as an addition would be nice ... Space isn't the issue, but more electricity and all that. I guess I need to get a solar panel for it. ๐
It would definitely work well on your balcony โ or would that drive the missus crazy? xD
@Kushycat, we had an 800w setup on the terrace, I cleared it away last year because I was growing on the side. And for the microgrow, it's clean in a minute. ๐
Have fun with this grow! ๐ ๐ฑIs this going to be entirely an indoor grow? Or will the plants go outside later on? How are you managing the heat in the summer? I was pre-growing some seedlings ๐ฑ for the vegetable garden and it was already 35 degrees in my tent!
@India_Calcoen, Thanks! Yeah, itโs going to be an indoor grow. It was 31 degrees in the tent, but itโs cooled down a bit now. Iโm planning to get a small air conditioner for the grow room, though. Since I have a small solar system (pictures to follow), it works well for powering the lights and an air conditioner like that. Plus, thereโs a dehumidifier in there too, so Iโm killing two birds with one stone, as they say. I assume you take a break from indoor growing when the temperatures get that high where you are? 35 degrees is pretty intense xD
@Kushycat, airconditioning sounds good ๐ Our house and the growing tent get very hot, very fast when outside temperatures are rising. I switched the tent off now. It doesnโt make sense to grill all my plants ๐
The solar system also sounds good!
@paradiseseeds, Now the fun is really about to begin :D
But we really need to talk about my next runโI just got my annual bill from my electricity provider, and it really hurt,๐ฟ so Iโve decided not to set up any more automatics in the tent. But maybe we should just do that via email, and there are still a few weeks until the finale. In any case, thanks so much for the kind words!๐๐ค
@Kushycat, Yes electricity prices are going through the roof right now...To bad we now cannot enjoy our passion to the fullest... Lets keep in contact by e-mail and enjoy growing together!
Nice to see the plants have been doing well and taken the hot weather oke! Good turn around and they are looking nice and full! Good luck with the comming stages!๐
@paradiseseeds, Oh yeah, I'm really happy about that, too. Thanks so much, as always, for the kind words. Did you all get through the holidays okay and have a chance to relax, or are the holidays still going on in the Netherlands? Who among you is actually writing here, or is that supposed to stay a secret? My guess is... Viviana. I hope it's okay that I'm mentioning her name here publicly, and I'd better stop now before this turns into an essay. ๐๐๐ฑ๐๐ผ
Hi Kushycat, I hope you do well, tell people around you if you struggle to much๐! Your plants do seem to handle the stress well, they will grow nicely and will get on top of everything(just like you)!
@paradiseseeds, Thanks for the kind words! Yes, but unfortunately, the next heat wave is on its way. Oh well, I'll repot them later since they really need some new nutrients. ๐๐๐
