All seeds except for The Church sprouted. Using rapid rooters soaked in 230 ppm well water with no added nutrients. Moved into starter pots filled with straight sunshine mix #4, then put in a 2x2' tent with 100W T5 4-bulb fixture 12" above the top leafs, inside of a humidity dome. I chose 4 plants as I hope to fill out the tent with an extended veg time using 4-way LST and SCRoG. It's my first time using SCRoG or LST, I've only ever topped before in the past.
The main and most important goal of this grow is to defeat lockouts, I am using this medium and nutrients based on advice given to me by a grower who has well water also. I had used bottled nutrients exclusively in the past, other than organic growing, but I have always enjoyed the explosive growth you get from hydroponics and soil-less mediums. Anyway, I am always looking to improve my grow and find the cheapest way to do it with the least amount of problems. If everything goes as I've been told, this should replace my current medium and fertilizers.
The Church seed ended up being a dud so I started a new one in a rapid rooter. Been misting the inside dome and the plants a few times a day. Humidity is usually between 90-100% inside. Just giving plain well water.
Moved all but The Church (restart) into the tent, lights 18" above plants. They seem like they're off to a rough start, this is my first time using this jacks professional 20-20-20 fertilizer, used at 1/4 tsp per gallon. I'm not sure if I overfed them or if the medium was too wet causing stress or a lockout?
4x4' tent was setup, running 2x mars hydro sp-250 LED lights and 8" ducting for ventilation and exhaust. This is my 2nd grow using them, I was so impressed with their performance in a pair compared to my 600W MH/HPS setup, I am now switched over 100%. Heat is still there because the drivers run warm, but my tent generally stays under 10F above ambient, and usually in the perfect temp zone. I do feel like at 525 watts at the wall it gives better performance overall especially for a flat canopy compared to a single 600W MH/HPS under a basic reflector.
The 3 older girls were topped between the 4th and 5th node.
Transplanted the 3 older plants into 3ga fabric pots. Tried 1/2 tsp per gallon of Jacks 20-20-20 and it burned the plants. I figured at 4 weeks they should be able to take it but I guess not. I will drop it back down, less is more is key here it seems. Thinking 1/4 tsp a gallon is all they need. I did feed The Church with 1/8 tsp a gallon as it's about a week behind.
I FIM'd The Church on accident, meant to top.
Transplanted The Church into 3ga fabric pot, and accidentally FIM'd instead of topped it on the main stalk, lots of new leaf, not sure what to expect. Started 4-way LST on the older 3 using long metal garden staples. Nutrients this week were at 1/8 tsp per gallon to get them back on track.
Had a problem this week, I had just finished topping the plants for the last time (minus the church which I was hoping to get to as it was behind the other 3, anyhow, there was a nasty storm the day after I topped the plants, and had a power outage during lights on, so I just kept the lights off for a little over 24 hrs to begin flowering. I turned on the right side sp-250 light and repositioned the plants to prepare for the trellis, still deciding on what to do, I had planned on building one but I am going to start shopping now.
EDIT: I was since told that if this ever were to happen again in the future just get them back on track and they shouldn't start going into flower. I'll have to give it a try next time something like this happens.
Bought the scrog pro, not really sure what I think about the trellis material, very rigid and has thick bands, seems to really shade the growth below. Working on finding the best height, started at 8" from the top of the substrate and eventually moved it down to 5" above. Watering has been tricky, I use my rubber siphon hose and hook a funnel up to it, then I slowly water the plant. I an imagining rigging up some funnels in the corners of the tent hooked up to some hose and stake those to the base of the stalk for easy watering.
No more stretch, thinking I should up the nutrients soon, seeing some yellowing but that may just be some of the first growth fading. Very hesitant to change up much things are going somewhat well. I am a little disappointed after the stretch was over the canopy wasn't full. I think that extra week would have made a bit of a difference, or maybe I should have gone with 5 plants, with the 5th one being in the middle.
Plants looking much better with the higher level of nutrients, I should have started this strength of nutrients a week earlier. Definitely learning a lot about this medium and fertilizer combo. I haven't been flushing, just watering with the blue water about once every 3-4 days depending on what I have going on, shooting for very little runoff, maybe 5% if that.
Haven't changed much, been feeding them every 4 days 1 gallon of nutrient water each, I did drop the nutrients down a touch as I was starting to see a little more nutrient burn. I have been trying to let them get dry if possible, sometimes I water early on the 3rd day but they only take 3/4 a gallon.
Started flush on The Church, it is an 8wk variety but they always seem to take longer. It was beginning to fade on it's own so no longer giving any nutrients. The other 3 were given 5/16 tsp of Jacks Pro 20-20-20. I will begin flushing the Orange Hill Special sometime later this week. Then Cheese and Bruce Banger will be the last two to flush perhaps in another week or so.
I had a scare last week, found some mold growing on one of the Bruce Banger colas, what a shame, I cut it out and added a small fan underneath the canopy to keep the air moving around and got rid of my DTW trays below, trying to lower the humidity and get fresher air circulating. Trying to keep temps below 65F during lights out.
The Church is being harvested soon, Orange Hill Special began flush mid last week, will begin flush on Bruce Banger and Cheese soon, it looks like Cheese could go a little longer.
I enjoyed growing this strain. I don't plan to grow this variety again soon but perhaps. She does have very dense buds which surprised me, taste is fairly generic perhaps she'll come through in the cure. Compared to what greenhouse boasts, I hit just under half their reported yields per sq/m.
These girls have been on plain well water for the past 7 days, and tonight they both got chopped down on flowering day 70. Trichomes are looking ripe on both of the varieties. Orange Hill Special was chopped the middle of last week.
This is probably my favorite strain but always looking for better. First time growing her in SCROG and she fills in nicely. I think deflation should help. Dense buds, pungent through flowering. Not a heavy feeder. Just a fun all around variety with great potency!
Very easy to grow variety, seems to take medium level of nutrients fine. Easy to trim and lots of foxtail on my pheno. Bright green buds with some darker hues on the tops. Will likely grow again.
I had a spot of mold growing on one of the colas later in bloom. All the other varieties were fine as was this one after that cola was removed. I chalk it up to an environment issue but an issue none thr less. This was the best yielding variety of the lot so she does pack on weight. Very good smell and taste. Trimming her was not as enjoyable. The small sugar leafs are everywhere. Seemed to take a medium-low level of nutrients best. I will likely grow this variety again in the future.
