THE PLAN
As my situation has changed, plus my old kit was getting a little worse for wear, it was time for an upgrade to something bigger and better. My DR60, which has served me well over the years, has now been replaced with a 1.2 BudBox Pro under a 600w, but more on that later.
The plan is to grow two Fast Version strains, Killer Kush and Sweet Special using Oldtimer nutes, Plant Magic soil, and supplements (I know they’ve changed ownership since I last used them, so let’s hope they still deliver!) plus a touch of Aptus Startbooster during propagation. Once in final pots, they’ll be topped, scrogged and flowered in 12L fabric pots, so let’s see how this pans out.
GERMINATION
After soaking two seeds of each strain for around 24 hours in room temperature water, the Killer Kush had started to crack, so I placed all four seeds between damp paper towels, sealed in a plastic tub and put into my airing cupboard, checking every 12 hours or so and giving them a light spray of water if needed.
Two days later, The Sweet Special had cracked as well and were starting to show their tap roots, so I left them between the paper towels for another 24 hours, while the Killer Kush were well on their way, so it was time to get them in their first small pots.
The media of choice was Westland Seed & Cutting Compost with 0.1ml per litre of Aptus Startbooster to help give them a kick start (I had a sample lying around and as I’ve heard good things about it, I thought why not give it a try). Once in the pots they were then placed into a propagator, and put into my trusty Micro Grow Box (Mylar lined PC Case) under a 23w CFL and left on for 24/7 with a temperature between 22-24C and humidity of around 70%.
A day later, the Sweet Specials were also ready, so I repeated the above, while the Killer Kush had broken the soil, were shedding their shell and reaching for the light.
Another 24 hours later, the Sweet Specials broke the soil, so that’s 100% germ rate with 3-4 year old seeds, the Killer Kush’s were also looking a little bit leggy, so I wrapped a drinking straw around their stems. OK I know straws are evil to our oceans and wildlife, and I really shouldn’t use them, but as I already had a load lying around, which would have been disposed of anyway, I might as well use them as let’s be honest, they do make bloody good support for seedlings.
IT DIDN’T TAKE LONG
Everything was going OK, then my first disaster struck, as I was positioning the probe of my thermometer, I accidentally knocked one of the Killer Kush with my arm, so after bigging up straws for support, it was actually the straw that caused the seedling to snap (plant on far left), if it wasn’t there, it would have probably have been OK – is that karma at work?
I gave it another day to see if it would pull threw, but alas not. Luckily I still had 2 Killer Kush FV’s left as I wanted to grow out more than 3 plants, so germination was started once again and just to be on the safe side, I did both.
Using the same technique, both seeds cracked and were put into the Micro Box, but as I couldn’t use the propagator, I put a clear sandwich bag over them to act as a humidity dome. A day later, they’d both broke the soil and were shedding their shells, meanwhile the three established seedlings were showing their second set of true leaves and looking healthy.
BACK ON TRACK
I had to go away for a couple of days, so with the second batch now germinated, I was happy to leave them, keeping the light on 24/7. When I got back, both were reaching for the light and looking a tad leggy, so I put a pesky straw on for support, while the other 3 were coming along nicely.
I’ve also introduced a touch of Plant Magic Bio-Silicon to help strengthen the stems at 0.5ml per litre, along with 0.1ml of Aptus Startbooster.
So, finally, all’s now going in the right direction, the only (minor) issue is keeping an eye on the different number of days during veg, which I should work out, although it’s no big deal, so I’ll not worry too much.
things are ticking along nicely and I’ve finally worked out their ages, which are…
Killer Kush #1 – 15 Days
Killer Kush #2 & #3 – 6 Days
While the Sweet Specials are at 14 Days.
I’m now starting to get a bit of a wet and dry cycle going and feed is still:
0.1ml per litre Startbooster
0.5ml per litre Bio-Silicon
KK #1 (and the SS’s) is ready for potting up, I’ve finally rigged up me new tent, just need to test everything is working all OK then I can get them into 6.5L intermediate pots with some fresh soil and under 600 watts
KK #2 & #3 although looking healthy, seem a touch on the small side for a week in, might be because I only had 2 x 23w CFL’s running, which I’ve now upped to 3, so I’m hoping once the 3 older plants are out of the MicroBox, they’ll get more light. Upping Startbooster might also help as they recommend 0.25ml per litre, I’ve just been a little cautious with it as it’s very concentrated. Temps were also a little low, 21-22C, but with the additional lamp its helped raise them to 24-26C.
It was time to pot up and move the girls into my new set up, which is:
1.2m BudBox Pro Tent
5” RVK Extraction
5” Rhino Hobby CF
600w LUMii Black Digital Ballast
600w Sol-Digital Dual Spectrum HPS
A Rhino Hobby wouldn’t normally be top of my carbon filter shopping list, but as it came as a kit and I just wanted to get up and running in a bigger tent without shelling silly money out, I’m hoping I can squeeze one grow out of it. I’m also using a basic Euro Reflector, and I’ve no idea how good or bad the Sol-Digital lamp is, again it came as a kit with the ballast, and ‘claims’ to be optimised for adjustable ballasts, so we’ll see.
POTTING UP
KK #1 (and the SS’s) have now been potted up to intermediate 6.5L pots using Plant Magic Soil, put in the tent which is showing good negative pressure, temps 25-26C, humidity around 45% and the lights set to 18/6. I also gave them 1.3 litres each of the following feed:
0.25ml per litre Aptus Startbooster
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Plant Magic Catayst
A good sprinkling of Plant Magic Granules
I’ve had great success in the past using Plant Magic, but as mentioned at the start of this diary, I know they’ve been bought out, so let’s hope it’s still as good as it used to be :ninja:
As for the two younger KK’s, I initially decided to keep them in the MicroBox for a few more days, but last night while chilling watching The Last Leg, I started to think it was a waste of electricity, so I put them in the tent. The plan is to remove them when lights go out, put them in the MicroBox for 6 hours, then when the tent lights come back on, put them back in. They’ve also been fed the following:
0.25ml per litre Aptus Startbooster
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
Things are coming along nicely, roots are starting to appear at the drain holes for KK #2 & KK #3, the older plants are also bushing out so to help slow growth down a little bit, KK #1 (and the SS’s) were topped this morning at the second node.
I’m still struggling a little bit with humidity as it’s ranging from 60% lights off dropping to 30% during lights on, however temps aren’t too bad, 26C-27C at lights on and 19-20C lights off.
Feed for all plants is still the same, which they’ll all be getting tonight:
0.25ml per litre Aptus Startbooster
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Plant Magic Catalyst
Part I
Time for another update from Serpent’s Sweet Garden and there are a couple of things to report.
I’m still trying to fully dial the environment in as over the last couple of days after the cold snap ended, I got a high temp of 31C and a couple of the plants (KK #2 & SS #1)looked like they were starting to get a little bit of heat stress.
As I’m used to growing in a DR60 with a 250w, I think I made a rookie mistake and had the light too close. I’ve now moved it up which seems to have helped as temps, after the light had been on for 16 hours, were 25-26C at canopy and 24-25C at root level.
I also think the high(ish) temps, and more so the low humidity, might have stunted KK #2 a little as she’s still a bit behind KK #3 and looking very squat which wasn’t helped with me spilling a load of feed on her.
SS #1 looks like she’s getting a bit of calcium deficiency as there’s a little bit of speckling on the lower fan leaves, as well as a touch of leaf tip curling so I might mix a different feed for her with a touch of CalMag.
On a positive note, I’ve had a bit of a move around as gone is the plastic tray and each plant now has its own drip tray so I can space them out better. The three plants that were topped also responded well with KK #1 being my favourite as she’s bushing out nicely :)
As roots are now poking out of the two younger KK’s, the plan now is to give them all their last feed tonight before potting up into final 12L Root Pouches, fit the scrog net and top them all, so KK #1 and the two SS’s will have been butchered twice.
Feed wise, they’re still on:
0.25ml per litre Aptus Startbooster
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Plant Magic Catalyst
Part II
3 days later it was pot up time as all 5 plants were potted up into their final 12L Root Pouches using Plant Magic soil, a sprinkling of Plant Magic Granules and were in their intermediate pots the following number of days:
KK #1 – 16 Days (32 Total)
SS #1 & #2 – 16 Days (31 Total)
KK #2 & #3 – 13 Days (23 Total)
I won’t lie, it was a bit of a pain potting up as I really should have checked the size difference between 6.5L and 12L as there wasn’t as much room as I thought. Maybe next time I’ll use bigger finals or smaller intermediates but hey it’s all a learning curve.
As for the plants KK #1 is still my fave as she’s really bushing out nicely and growing as expected.
KK #2 on the other hand, isn’t looking the best. Her growth is stunted and suffering from what looks like a calcium deficiency, which came on really quick and I think was down to the temp and humidity issues I’ve been having. I’m going to keep an eye on her over the next few days, and maybe chop off the affected leaves.
KK #3 is growing well and bushing out nicely although she’s also starting to show a touch of calcium deficiency so I’ve added some CalMag.
A quick note on the Sweet Specials, new growth on the SS #1 is looking all OK since adding a touch of CalMag while SS #2 is continuing to bush out.
Feed for all girls is now:
0.25ml per litre Aptus Startbooster
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Plant Magic Catalyst
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
Part I
Another day and another update from Serpent’s Sweet Garden.
After feeling really shitty over the last few days, I’ve been doing at little as possible (not just in the garden) so my plan has now changed slightly, but more on that later.
Overall, things are going OK as the plants settle into their final pots. KK #1 (and the SS’s) are continuing to bush out as there’s now about 6 - 7 branches around a similar height on each plant. The calcium deficiency also seems to be under control on SS #1 as new growth is looking OK.
KK #3 is still trying to catch up, she also showed a bit of a calcium deficiency, but like SS #2, new growth seems to be OK. KK #2 on the other hand is still a bit of a runt. The calcium deficiency got quite bad with her, which is probably why she’s stunted, new growth however seems to be looking better, so fingers crossed she pulls through.
The original plan was to top KK #1 (and the SS’s) for a second time after they’d been in their finals a day or two, but that went out the window as I left it a bit late and to get an even canopy I’d have had to top 6 or 7 branches on each plant, which I didn’t want to do. So to control height, I’ve now fitted the scrog net and also topped KK #2 & #3 so they bush out a bit more.
I’m still holding off the grow nutes, but I’ll be keeping an eye on them as they’ll be getting hungry soon but for the moment feed is still:
0.25ml per litre Aptus Startbooster
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Plant Magic Catalyst
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
It’s taken a couple of goes to get use to the Root Pouches as last feed, they took on 2 litres each so I think initially I wasn’t feeding them enough. I’ve also given them a bit of a trim, mainly KK #2, to get rid of any lower dying leaves.
The plan now is to fill out the net over the next week or so, then I should be good to switch to 12/12.
Part II
Not a huge amount to report as I’m now starting to tuck the tops under the net, mainly KK #1 and the two SS’s which are responding well. KK #3, although not looking the best is still growing, while KK #2 is continuing to catch up.
I’m still holding off the grow nutes, so for the moment, they’re still getting:
0.25ml per litre Aptus Startbooster
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Plant Magic Catalyst
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
They’re also thirsty girls as last feed, the three older plants got around 2.5L each, and the younger plants just over 2 litres each.
Part I
The net, for the most part, is filling up nicely now they’ve been in their final pots for 13 days.
KK #3, as expected, is still a little behind KK #1 and the two SS’s but is showing good growth. KK #2 on the other hand is continuing to struggle with slow, stunted growth and isn’t taking up the feed as quick as the other four. I’m going to keep her growing for the moment, but I’m not expecting her to break any records.
They were also ready for a touch of grow nutes as a tiny bit of yellowing was starting to show. The feedchart says I should be feeding 3ml per litre of grow at this point, but I’m always cautious, so I just used 1ml and all plants got around 2.5 litres, except KK #2 which I’m going to leave another day until the pot is dried out.
And the concoction of feed was as follows:
1ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Grow
0.25ml per litre Aptus Startbooster
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Plant Magic Catalyst
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
Part II
Just a quick update as this will be the last day in veg before the girls are flipped into flower :)
Not a huge amount to report as the plants, for the most part, continue to bush out and fill the net, a couple are also showing signs of paling (especially SS #1) so I’ve upped the grow nutes to 2ml per litre as they’ve now been in their final pots for 16 days.
The concoction of feed is now as follows:
2ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Grow
0.25ml per litre Aptus Startbooster
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Plant Magic Catalyst
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
Temps have been a little bit all over the place the last couple of days as it’s getting a touch low lights off, I’ve rigged up a tube heater, but as it’s only small (I used to use it in my DR60), it’s not really cutting the mustard so might have to get my arse on fleabay!
Lights On: 24-26C / 40-45% RH
Lights Off: 17-18C / 50-55% RH
That’s all for now and things will start to get a bit more interesting over the next few weeks.
Part I
The girls are now in flower as I flipped the lights to 12/12 on Sunday night after a 6-7 week veg, well that’s if I’ve done my sums right!
Already they’ve have had a bit of a spurt on and are filling the net nicely with a nice sweet smell of canna coming from the tent when I open it. Sadly KK #2 is still struggling, but as she’s not taking up any needed space, I’ll keep her in the tent for the time being.
I’m still getting a touch of paling, more so on SS #1 and KK #3, I’ve kept them on 2ml grow, but I might up it to 3ml next feed. They’re taking on around 2-2.5 litres every 2-3 days so at the moment, the concoction of feed is still…
2ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Grow
0.25ml per litre Aptus Startbooster
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Plant Magic Catalyst
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
Temps however are still a battle, lights on they’re OK at 24-26C but lights off yesterday it dropped to an all-time low of 15C, not good  I’m just waiting for a new tube heater to arrive, but I think the main problem is any heat is going straight out of the extraction so it’s not having time to build up. Maybe a decent fan speed controller should be added to my never ending grow room shopping list as I do have a cheapo Variispeed, but its crap as it only works intermittently and makes the extraction fan hum like crazy.
Part II
Well I knew I was due another fuck up and that’s what happened last night. I was tiding up around my grow tent, lost my balance, fell into the side of it and next thing BANG!
Yup, you guessed it, the clip on fan had fallen off and come crashing down into SS #2. Fortunately it only damaged two side branches; one suffered an accidental supercrop, which I think will be OK, but the other branch very nearly snapped completely off at the bottom, so I’ve supported it to the main stem and only time will tell if it recovers. What an idiot I am and totally my fault as I was probably a bit too stoned to be fucking about after smoking my fill of some Stardawg I grabbed in the afternoon
Anyway, it’s not all bad as those who’ve been following this diary know I’ve been struggling with temps, but with the addition of a bigger tube heater (120w) and a small oil radiator (650w), I seem to have got them under control…
Lights On: 25-27C / 43-45% RH
Lights Off: 19-20C / 50-55% RH
Both heaters have thermostats, which are set to around half, so I know I’ve got a bit of wiggle room when we get the next cold snap.
As for the plants, they’re now well into the stretch phase with flowering sites starting to develop but I’m still getting a little bit of paling, mainly SS #1 and KK #3. I did up the grow nutes to 3ml per litre for one feed, but I think with the low temps, I’ve been getting a touch of lock out so last feed I knocked it back down to 2ml per litre. KK #3 I’m sad to say is still struggling, some of the leaves are looking very green, so last night, I didn’t give her any grow, just supplements, so we’ll see if she responds.
I’ve also knocked down the Startbooster to every other feed, and the last of the Catalyst was used last night. I was in two minds whether to buy another bottle, but as I’d only use it for the next couple of feeds, I’m going to hold off as less is more right?
Each plant is getting 2-2.5 litres every two days and the concoction of feed is now:
3ml then 2ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Grow (except KK #2)
0.25ml per litre Aptus Startbooster (every other feed)
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Catalyst
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
Part I
Another day and another update from Serpent’s Sweet Garden as things start to get a bit more interesting
The girls are well into their stretch and seem to be getting bigger every day. I’ve not really given them a trim yet, but as there’s now plenty of foliage, I’ll get the scissors out in the next few days.
I’ve done a little bit of tucking, but not as much as I normally do as the net has quite big squares, so the canopy isn’t as even as I would like, but at the same time, it isn’t too bad.
SS #2 after my mishap is also still going strong, so at the moment, it looks like my emergency repair is working.
I’ve also kept the grow nutes on 2ml, the feed chart says 3-4ml at this stage, but I like to be cautious. Still no bloom nutes, but I’ll be starting them soon, so at the moment, feed for KK #1 & #3, plus the two SS’s is currently…
2ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Grow
0.25ml per litre Aptus Startbooster (every other feed)
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
As for KK #2, she’s starting to look a little bit healthier, I think I’ve been overfeeding her a bit, as the last couple of feeds, she didn’t get any grow nutes and is looking better for it, so she’s currently on…
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
Temps have also not been too bad at:
Lights On: 26-27C / 41-45% RH
Lights Off: 18-20C / 56-58% RH
I would like to lower the RH a touch, especially during lights out, so I’m hoping once trimmed, it’ll improve air flow, if not, I’ll just get a couple of cheap damp tramps and see how that goes.
Part II
I’m pleased to report, with the exception of KK #2, everything is going in the right direction. Stretch has slowed down as the buds start to develop and its noticeable the smell is now getting stronger, not too intense but I expect that’ll come over the next few weeks.
As for KK #2 she’s still hanging in there and although a long way behind the others I think stopping the grow nutes early has helped a little, so we’ll see how it goes, but in all honesty, I not expecting much.
The others though, I’m really happy, there’s possibly a touch of K deficiency on a couple of the plants, but I’ve stopped Startbooster and grow nutes and started them on Oldtimer’s bloom. Only 1ml for now (feed chart says 3ml), but as it’s been mentioned on here, there’s definitely been a change to the formula as it’s not as thick or dark as it used to be, so I’m expecting I’ll need to up them fairly quickly. I’ve also been fleeced for a bottle of Oldtimer’s PK 4-8 which I’ll probably start using after a couple more.
So last feed, the concoction on all plants was…
1ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Bloom
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
Temps have also been OK at…
Lights On: 26-28C / 39-44% RH
Lights Off: 19-20C / 48-52% RH
Part I
It was looking like a bit of a jungle in Serpent’s Sweet Garden and some of the lower leaves were a little worse for ware, so I’ve started stripping both dying and healthy leaves/branches from under the net.
I’ve not gone to town, and haven’t removed any fan leaves from the canopy as I didn’t want to stress them out too much, so over the coming days I’ll continue to defoliate.
The emergency repair on SS #2 still seems to be holding out as I had a good look while I was crawling under the net, the main stem probably isn’t quite as thick as SS #1, but everything is going in the right direction.
Part II
Another update from Serpent’s Sweet Garden and sadly this will be the last time I’ll mention Killer Kush #2 :(
She’s been struggling from quite early on and with hind sight I probably shouldn’t have topped her and held off the grow nutes. After two and half week in flower, she’s only just peeping through the net and also takes an extra day to dry the pot out so tonight I’m going to get rid. Call me paranoid, but with a couple of growers having hermie issues, I’m getting a little worried that she’s stressed and might throw out a nanna or several, so better safe than sorry.
The others though I’m pretty happy with how things are going. They’ve had a bit more of a stretch, so I’ve bent over a couple of the taller colas and supported them to the net, I might also do a bit more once KK #2 is gone as they’ll have a bit more room. They’re also starting to bust out trichs on the sugar leaves, small amounts at the moment and I’m looking forward to seeing how they develop into crystally goodness.
That said, there’s still a touch of paling, mainly SS #1 so last feed I upped the bloom to 2ml, but when I feed them tonight, I think I’ll up it to 3ml per litre although I could have had a touch of lock out with the battle I’ve been having with temps. They’re also taking on about 2.5 litres each every other day and the current concoction is:
2ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Bloom
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
As for temps, they’ve been OK lights on, but lights off has been a struggle as we had snow here yesterday and ambient temps plummeted so last recording was…
Lights On: 26-28C / 38-43% RH
Lights Off: 17-19C / 46-50% RH
Part III
The scissors came out once again as I gave the four remaining plants a bloody good trim under the net. They were also due a feed so I upped the bloom nutes to 3ml per litre, this time each plant got 3 litres as they’re thirsty girls and feed is now…
3ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Bloom
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
Temps also similar to yesterday at…
Lights On: 25-27C / 38-43% RH
Lights Off: 17-19C / 44-48% RH
Part IV
Things are coming along nicely with good bud and trich production on all four plants. The branches are also stiffening up, the sweet canna smell is also getting more intense and KK #1 is still my fave as she’s leading the way.
I’ve held off from doing anymore trimming, but I’ll more than likely get the scissors out again in a few days to get rid of some of unwanted foliage.
SS #1, although showing good bud production, she’s still got yellowing of the leaves. The intake is next to her (at pot level), so I’m going to try and reroute it so it’s more central as I’m sure she’s got a touch of lockout.
As for feed, it’s still the same at…
3ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Bloom
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
And temps are a little better at…
Lights On: 26-28C / 33-38% RH
Lights Off: 19-20C / 46-50% RH
Part I
Welcome to another update from Serpent’s Sweet Garden which I’m happy to say is getting a lot more interesting as we hit three weeks in flower :)
I’m really happy with things are going, all four plants have thrown out pistils everywhere, the calyxes are now developing and there’s an abundance icky sticky trichomes giving the grow tent an incredible sweet aroma that’s not overpowering at the moment, but I’m expecting that will come.
As I’ve said in previous updates, SS #1 is still a little on the pale side around the edges of the leaves, but she’s growing well. I think more stable temps over the last couple of days has helped as I’m still a little cautious over feeding her if there has been a slight lock out.
And my fave is still KK #1, she’s a lovely plant, soaking up everything I throw at her and developing like a cannabis plant should do, looking forward to seeing and smelling her in full flower.
Each plant is still getting around 3 litres of feed every 2 days, I’ll also be stopping the Bio-Silicon as they enter mid flower so the concoction they got last night was…
3ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Bloom
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Bio-Silicon
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
And I’m happier with the temps (how long will it last!) that have been…
Lights On: 26-28C / 35-39% RH
Lights Off: 20-21C / 47-52% RH
Part II
I got the scissors out again last night and gave them a bit of a trim, mostly from above the net and reckon I can still do a bit more, but I’ll leave it a few days. They’re also getting bloody sticky which my fingers were testament to. The sweet aroma is also getting stronger as the trichomes continue to develop and some of the pistils are just starting to turn brown.
There’s still a touch of yellowing on SS #1, but she’s flowering nicely and Killer Kush’s are just lovely plants to grow, with KK #1 still being my fave.
I’ve also upped the bloom nutes to 4ml and thought it was time to introduce Oldtimers PK 4-8 at half strength. Now I’ve never used a PK boost with Oldtimers, it was never needed, but when Plant Magic got bought out, the powers that be decided to release one, whether this is just a cash in and will either do nothing or harm my plants, time will tell, but we’ll see how it goes. So now, they’re all getting 3 litres each every two days of the following…
4ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Bloom
0.5ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers PK 4-8
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
Temps, considering how cold it’s been in blighty the last few days haven’t been too bad. I’ve had a bit of a move around which I think has helped as I took the oil rad out of the tent, fitted a longer piece of intake ducting and positioned it more central, the other end is pointing directly at the rad that’s sat next to the tent so its sucking in warm air. Anyway, temps and RH have been…
Lights On: 26-28C / 35-38% RH
Lights Off: 18-20C / 42-46% RH
PART I
It’s now Day 29 in Serpent’s Sweet Garden, the girls are now over half way through flowering and are fattening and frosting up nicely.
I couldn’t resist and got the scissors out again last night for another round of trimming and I think there’s still a lot more foliage I can get rid of, but I tried not to get carried away. The girls are now incredibly sticky, even after lightly handling them I had to wash my hands in oil first as soap just wasn’t cutting it, good times! And the aroma, wow, it’s getting sweeter and stronger day by day.
The buds are also starting to get dense as the calyxes pile on the weight, more so on the Sweet Specials, but the Killer Kush’s aren’t far behind. That said, I’ve still got a bit of yellowing going on at the leaf tips/edges, I do like to use nutrients on the side of caution but I might up it next feed, for now though they’re still on…

PART II
I’ve resisted getting the scissors out over the last couple of days as I don’t want to stress them, but as it’s looking like a jungle, I’ll probably give them another trim soon.
The two Killer Kush’s are also lapping up the feed and looking the healthiest of the four as the calyxes put on weight. SS #1 is still being a bit fussy, she’s still showing yellowing at the leaf tips and edges as well as a touch of clawing, which on one hand shows a deficiency, but on the other shows toxicity so I really think it’s down to the fluctuating temps and caused a bit of a lock out. She’s still budding up nicely though and has an abundance of trichomes.
That said I've taken a chance and upped the PK to 1ml per litre, they’re taking on around three litres every two days and the feed is now…
4ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Bloom
1ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers PK 4-8
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
As for temps, they’ve been a bit better with the milder weather we’ve had…

Lights Off: 19-20C / 45-47% RH
PART I
It’s update time in Serpent’s Sweet Garden and I knew I was overdue a fuck up and that’s what happened a couple of nights ago.
I was trimming SS #1 at the back left, there’s not a lot of room between that side of the tent and the wall so it’s a balancing act and yep, you guessed it the inevitable happened and I went arse over tit. I had two options, fall and rip the tent, or try and do as little damage to the girls as possible. In a split second, I went for option two. Fortunately I missed the main/bigger colas but did accidentally supercrop around 4 side branches, luckily none of them snapped completely off, so we’re still in the game.
Overall though, things are going in the right direction (ignoring my clumsiness), calyxes are fattening up nicely, pistols are browning, trichs are starting to cloud up and wow, they aren’t half sticky. I know you shouldn’t have faves, but KK #1 is leading the way for me, she really is a lovely plant.
That said, SS #1 is baffling me as she’s still showing yellow leaf tips and edges which seems to have got a touch worse. As I’ve mentioned, on one hand it looks like nute burn, but on the other it looks like toxicity. I do think the up and down temps caused lock out, although with jadenugs recent comments about pH, it could be a combination of both as I’ve never pH’d when using Oldtimers, it’s a bit of head scratcher as she’s flowering nicely.
As for feed, they’re still on the following…
4ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Bloom
1ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers PK 4-8
1ml per litre Shogun CalMag
While temps/RH have been OK at…
Lights On: 25-28C / 37-40% RH
Lights Off: 18-19C / 45-48% RH
PART II
Overall, I’m pretty happy with how things are going :) The plants are flowering nicely, the calyxes are putting the weight on as the buds get denser while the trichs twinkle like stars. I’ve also continued trimming, not loads, just leaves here and there when I think they need to come off.
That said, they’re showing the start of foxtaling, especially on KK #1, I’ve read all kinds of conflicting info on this, it’s genetic, it’s a heat problem etc etc, it is what it is.
The trichs are still clouding up, but I didn’t fully inspect them last night as I couldn’t find my jewellers loupe (I’ve probably done the stoner thing and put it somewhere ‘safe’ but fuck knows where that is!), so I’ll take more dodgy macro shots over the coming days as I like them to be on the amber side.
I’ve also given them a final push of feed upping the bloom and PK 4-8 as, depending on the trichs, I’ll start knocking them down so they can get around a week’s flush. I’ve also used the last of the CalMag, I was in two minds whether to buy another bottle, but as I’ll be stopping it soon anyway, I decided not to and shared what was left between them. So last night, feed was…
5ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Bloom
1.5ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers PK 4-8
0.7ml per litre Shogun CalMag
Temps and RH have been OK at…
Lights On: 25-28C / 38-42% RH
Lights Off: 18-19C / 48-52% RH
PART I
Time for another update from Serpent’s Sweet Garden as the girls hit late flower and I’m still happy with how things are going.
The girls continue to fatten up, pistols are a full on brown orange hue, and the trichs, although still clouding up, are heading in the right direction. The leaves are also now turning as they use up the available nutrients and the sweet aroma, wow, it’s definitely getting stronger as the plants head towards the finishing line.
I’ve also started knocking down the feed, small increments at first, but I’m aiming for around a week of flush, just gotta keep an eye on them there trichs as I think the KK’s will finish before the SS’s, and last feed, they got…
4ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Bloom
1ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers PK 4-8
The temps have been a bit better during lights off with this milder weather we’re currently having…
Lights On: 25-28C / 38-44% RH
Lights Off: 20-21C / 49-53% RH
Finally, temptation got the better of me as I snipped off a few smaller buds to sample at the weekend and although it was a little racy and not quite couch lock, for a first taste, it was alright and hopefully a sign of things to come.
PART II
As we approach 7 weeks in flower, it’s time for another update from Serpent’s Sweet Garden.
Everything is still heading in the right direction, the calyxes continue to fatten up and I’m loving the sweet aroma as I open the tent. The trichs on the two Killer Kush are clouding up nicely with just a small hint of amber, so there’s still a little bit to go, but out of the two strains, I think these will finish first.
Although not in the comp, I have to give a token mention to how frosty the Sweet Specials are with trichs busting out all over the place. I had a closer look at them last night and they aren’t quite as cloudy as the KK’s, but are well on their way :)
Feed wise, the bloom has been knocked down again, it’s always a bit of a juggling act at this late stage to give them what they need while also leaving enough time to give them a decent flush, but you can see in the pics they're paling and showing some pretty colours as they use the available nutrients :) I might also have to split the feeds with the SS’s looking like they’ll go longer, so for now, last feed all four got…
3ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Bloom
1ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers PK 4-8
Temps have been OK, although lights off RH is a touch high…
Lights On: 26-28C / 35-37% RH
Lights Off: 20-21C / 51-53% RH
PART I
I’m still really happy with how things are going as the abundance of bud and sweet sweet aroma greats me when I open my tent. It looks like the swelling on the calyxes is now slowing down, so I don’t think they’ll gain much more weight, but the trichs are still maturing producing that sticky icky resin. I’m also getting a fair amount of paling and those lovely autumnal colours showing as the soak up the last of the available food :)
Speaking of which, next feed (due tonight) I’ll start the flush phase (just plain old tap water) until harvest. I was going to split the feed as the SS’s are a little bit behind, but not by much as the trichs are now mostly cloudy so an extra feed or two of water won’t do any harm.
The trichs on the KK’s are continuing to turn amber so I reckon they’ll be ready to chop within the next week or so and they’re not going to be far off the claimed 7 weeks flowering time, exciting times.
As for last feed, they got their final taste of NPK a couple of days ago, which was…
2ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers Bloom
1ml per litre Plant Magic Oldtimers PK 4-8
And temps are still OK at…
Lights On: 27-28C / 35-37% RH
Lights Off: 19-21C / 51-54% RH
I’ve also gotta hold my hands up and admit I’ve been snipping off the smaller buds here and there. Well when your jars are dry and you’ve a tent full of (not quite ready) bud, temptation is getting the better of me! I never learn, but I’m pleased to report the taste and stone is getting stronger the closer we get to harvest.
PART II
We’re now at week 8, the girls are fast approaching harvest and the aroma is getting stronger, a bit of an uplifting sweet fruit, but also dank as hell which I hope is hinting at a couch lock.
They’ve had just tap water the last 2 feeds of around 3 litres each and as you can see on the leaves, they’re rapidly paling as they use up the last of the feed :)
Trichs on the Killer Kush are showing a little bit more amber, so I’ll probably leave them a couple more days, then get ready for the chop. The Sweet Specials aren’t far behind, they're stupidly frosty and also showing just a hint of amber so although I plan on staggering the harvest, I think it’ll only be a few days apart.
I’ve also given the ballast a boost for the final week or so, apparently it gives an extra 10%, which takes it up to 660w so we’ll see. The downside is it has raised my lights on temps a touch, which are now…
Lights On: 28-29C / 35-37% RH
Lights Off: 19-20C / 49-51% RH
PART I
As the girls fast approach harvest, it’s time for another update from Serpent’s Sweet Garden.
Over the last few days, I think they’ve put on a little bit more weight, the trichs continue to turn amber, and overall the plants are starting to look a little trashed as they use the last of any available feed and I gotta say I’m now getting twitchy with the scissors.
I gave them another feed last night, around 2-3 litres each of just tap water that’s been allowed to stand and the plan is to chop the Killer Kush in the next day or so, followed by the super frosty Sweet Specials :)
Temps again have been a touch high, but as I’m now towards the finish line, I’m not stressing about it too much and last reading was…
Lights On: 28-29C / 37-39% RH
Lights Off: 19-21C / 47-50% RH
PART II
Its 61 days in flower, a week and a bit over the claimed 7 weeks, but time to get busy with the scissors in Serpent’s Sweet Garden.
The Killer Kush have now had 3 feeds (about a week) of just water, trichs have matured, maybe not quite as amber as I’d hoped, but they weren’t far off. The leaves were showing those awesome autumnal colours as they approach the end of life so it was time to harvest, good times, well kinda as I do hate the chore of trimming, you just gotta get on with it as you know what’s to come.
I have to say, the first thing I noticed while trimming (as this is my debut grow under a 600w) was the nugs, especially on KK #1 as they were unbelievably dense, more so than I’ve ever had before and she definitely yielded more out of the two. She did have some foxtaling, whether that was down to heat stress, or just genetic I’m not quite sure as KK #3 didn’t really develop them, so they might be slightly different phenos, either way I’m looking forward to smoking them.
I also managed to salvage a bit of scissor hash, which all got put into a supercharged joint last night and wow, I won’t lie, I was fucked.
As for the Sweet Specials I’ll leave them a couple more days
Time to harvest the Sweet Specials. They actually went 9 weeks and I reckon they could have gone a few more days, so a couple of weeks over the claimed 7 weeks. Worth noting if you’ve got some Sweet Special seeds in your stash but need a quick turnaround.
I also got some nice scissor hash as SS #1 was one hell of a resinous girl, my fingers were even glued together to the point I couldn’t scrape it all off, so didn’t salvage as much as I could have, but all’s good as I was fooked last night after a couple of supercharged joints with a bit of flash dried Killer Kush.
That’s pretty much it for the growing side of things and the next update will be a smoke report in a few weeks once the buds have dried and cured.
The Buds & Aroma
The buds were a little more dense than the KK’s, especially from the main colas. There’s also a good coverage of trichs and the aroma was again citrus, but a lot sweeter and more potent, possibly down to Grapefruit in its genetic makeup. Overall a lovely looking and smelling bud.
The Smoke
The flavour I have to say when smoked pure is amazing and possibly one of the nicest tasting buds I’ve ever grown. Like the Killer Kush its smooth with that welcome throaty tickle and little in the way of coughing but be prepared for cotton mouth. And the flavour is mellow at first that becomes more intense with citrus and berry undertones, a little like a cannabis infused fruit pastel.
The High
Like a lot of good bud it’s a creeper, predominantly an indica leaning body stoned, but with a nice cerebral buzz. I can happily smoke this throughout the day with tobacco but pure is where you get the full benefit and as it’s so smooth when you finish a spliff, you immediately want to roll another, but then you try to get up and it isn’t happening :) Ideal for smoking when binging on a boxset like Game of Thrones as the head buzz keeps you captivated with what’s happening, yet the body stoned means you can quite happily sit on your arse for hours on end.

The Buds & Aroma
The buds are nice and chunky, maybe not the biggest ever grown but a decent size. The main colas are quite dense, whereas the side branches not quite as much. The trichrome production was pretty good and my grinder is quickly clogging up with resin. As for the smell (the bit I’m always crap at) there’s a definite sweet kinda citrus aroma with added dank going on which gets more intense when the buds are broken apart.
The Smoke
An incredibly smooth smoke, even when toked pure in a spliff with no tobacco, not much coughing either and just a welcomed little tickle in the back of the throat. With growing organically, the taste is not chemically at all allowing the sweet, almost citrus flavours to come through.
The High
Definitely a creeper and more a body indica type stoned than a head high. I found I could smoke it during the day in a spliff with a little bit of tobacco to give me a nice buzz and still get (some) shit done. At night though when smoked pure, it really hits the spot, relaxes the whole body, and although not 100% couch lock, it’s not far off. Ideal for sticking some space rock on (headphones of course), dimming the lights and letting your mind drift into the stratosphere.
