GreenHobbit 🌱 Auto Malawi × Northern Lights – Week 1 The first week is done, and the Auto Malawi × Northern Lights is making exactly the impression I hoped for. It was the first to germinate, the first with roots at the bottom of the pot, and it's currently taking the lead above ground as well. After moving from the small seedling pot to its 15-liter final pot, it has continued to grow without any pause. This is exactly how you want a start to go. At the beginning of the week, I removed the humidity domes. The humidity in the tent is consistently between 60 and over 80% even without the domes, so it no longer needed that extra moisture. Shortly after, I swapped the small Secret Jardin LEDs for the Spider Farmer SE3000. Right now, it's running at 20% power at about 40 cm distance. After noticing some slight light tips on the leaves, I cautiously raised the lamp a few centimeters higher. Since then, it has stopped growing taller and is visibly investing its energy into its leaves. I particularly like the leaf shape already. For such a young plant, the first true leaves already look a bit longer and narrower. Maybe I'm imagining it, but the Malawi influence seems to be showing slowly. The journey is starting promisingly, and I'm looking forward to seeing what this African genetics will reveal in the coming weeks. There was a €25 voucher from zamnesia because they revamped their site. I immediately ordered new 15l fabric pots with it. @zamnesia, thank you very much for that! ☺️

GreenHobbit 🇲🇼 Auto Malawi × Northern Lights – Week 2 The second week is done, and the Auto Malawi × Northern Lights is developing just as I hoped. Already, it shows impressive growth vigor and seems to be the most vital of the three plants. The stem has gained significant strength in just a few days, and the internodes remain pleasantly short. After I raised the lamp about 3 cm a few days ago, there have been no further signs of light stress. The slightly burned leaf tips from the beginning of the week are practically irrelevant now, and the new growth is completely healthy. The strong branching is particularly noticeable. Even now, well-defined side shoots are forming at each node, suggesting a bushy structure. The leaf color is a rich green and uniform, indicating that the soil is currently providing the plant excellently. For week 3, I expect a significant growth spurt. If it maintains this pace, it should quickly become the largest plant in the tent.

GreenHobbit Auto Malawi × Northern Lights — Week 3 Week 3 – The Stretch Begins The Auto Malawi × Northern Lights was once again the strongest plant in the tent this week. At the beginning of the week, it already showed a very stable and even structure with short internodal spacing, a strong main stem, and well-developed side branches. The small damage to some leaf tips from the previous week has not progressed, and all the new growth looks healthy. Throughout the week, its growth has changed significantly. The internodes are starting to stretch, and especially in the last few days, it has gained quite a bit of height. At the same time, strong side branches are developing at practically all nodes, so despite the increasing vertical growth, it maintains a nice branching structure. By the end of the third week, it is clear that the plant is slowly transitioning from pure vegetative growth to the next phase. More and more new growth points are emerging at the top and on the side branches, and the first signs of pre-flowering are becoming visible. Since the nutrient reserves in the soil are likely running low after three weeks, I have supplemented with Green House Feeding as planned. The plant has shown no negative reaction to this. The leaf color remains healthy and even, without burnt tips or noticeably dark green. Currently, I am still letting it grow completely naturally and skipping training. It will be particularly exciting to see how strong the Malawi influence comes through during the stretch. Very strong third week – and now it seems like it really wants to take off. 💚

GreenHobbit Auto Malawi × Northern Lights — Week 4 Week 4 was all about one thing for the Malawi: Stretch! 😅 She has gained quite a bit of height in a short time and has proven to be the most growth-happy of the three plants. At times, it was about 10 cm within two days. To keep the crown at a reasonable height, the dominant shoot was gently tied down and bent instead of being snapped. The LST is handling it excellently. The main stem has become really strong by now, and the side shoots have responded to the new light position by pulling up significantly on their own. As a result, what started as a rather upright plant has now turned into a very open, wide-spread structure with numerous well-lit tops. At the end of the week, the entire tent was reorganized. The Malawi stayed in the front left but was turned a bit so that no shoots are directly against the tent walls, making better use of the available space. There was also a small increase in light. The Spider Farmer SE3000 is currently hanging about 40 cm above the canopy at around 45% power. So far, the plants show no signs that this increase is too much for them. Another important point this week was the climate. After the vegetative phase had surprisingly worked well with just circulation, the 125 mm exhaust was finally installed. The old Systemair/Prima-Klima fan is rated at 240 m³/h and is more than sufficient for the small 70×70. The effect was immediately visible: after the humidity had mostly been around 67–74%, it dropped to about 62–65% within a few hours after startup at around 25 °C. Perfect timing for the transition to flowering. In terms of water consumption, the Malawi is also showing what kind of leaf mass she has built up. Four days after the last 1.5 liters, her pot is noticeably lighter than that of the little Freak. Conclusion Week 4: The Malawi is doing exactly what you would expect from her genetics: vigorous, fast, and with a strong upward pull. The LST is working excellently and is increasingly turning her stretch into usable space.

GreenHobbit Auto Malawi × Northern Lights – Week 5 Week 5 is a few days late this time – we're currently renovating the kitchen, so everything is a bit out of whack at the moment. 😅 But with this update, you get to see a few extra days of development. The Malawi has really taken off this week. The stretch is fully underway now, and she's adding several centimeters in just one day. To keep the height somewhat under control while utilizing more space, I've continued to tie down the main stem. Still, the highest tip is already about 65 cm at this point. By now, the flowering is clearly visible on practically all relevant branches. The individual flower clusters are still quite loose along the long branches, but they're slowly starting to come together into larger units. Overall, she's showing exactly the growth I hoped for from this genetics: long internodes, narrow leaves, and a very open, sativa-like structure. However, she seems to be a bit sensitive when it comes to nutrition. There’s a slight yellowing visible on many fine leaf tips. Since such genetics aren't necessarily known for a huge nutrient demand, I’ll prefer to stay cautious and observe rather than immediately add more. The plant itself looks quite vigorous, and the stretch doesn't seem to be fully finished yet. Let's see where she ends up – in the small 70×70, it's getting interesting. 😅
